Dátum:2016
ISSN:1785-8860
Megjegyzések:Due to the extensive use of images in various fields, using effective approaches to retrieve the most related images given a query image is of great importance. Content-based image retrieval is the approach commonly used to address this issue. The content-based image retrieval systems use many techniques to provide more accurate and comprehensive answers, among which is the relevance feedback. The relevance feedback is used by the system to help it retrieve more relevant images in response to a query. In this paper we have proposed a novel relevance feedback method that is able to improve the precision of the content-based retrieval systems. The proposed method is based on multi-query relevance feedback, and similarity function refinement.

Megjegyzések:There are many possibilities for open access publishing of location-based information as a result of the development of technology in the webGIS field. Besides this, geovisualization facilitates the interpretation and analysis of spatial data. The aim of this study is to demonstrate a GIS tool that is able to automatically express the anthropogenic influences on soils based on land use/cover data, and geovisualize their results on the web. We used ArcGIS and QGIS software for geoprocessing, classifying spatial data, and publishing them on the web. Generally, decreasing anthropogenic influence on soils could be detected on Tokaj-Nagy Hill throughout five investigation periods (1784-1858, 1858-1884, 1884-1940, 1940-1989, 1989-2010), as well as a decreasing intensity of human impacts. The results showed that representation of data with the geographic information system on the web is feasible, but also complex information from the map elements can be extracted which helps users better understand the spatial information.

Cím:A New Method to Increase Feedback for Programming Tasks During Automatic Evaluation : test case annotations in ProgCont System / Piroska Biró, Tamás Kádek, Márk Kósa, János Pánovics
Dátum:2022
ISSN:1785-8860
Megjegyzések:The unexpected challenges posed by the pandemic also have transformed university education. Information technology is still the most advantageous field, as IT tools in education are more widespread. We have been using the ProgCont system for automatic evaluation of programming tasks since 2011 at the Faculty of Informatics of the University of Debrecen. The system's responsibilities have expanded over the years, and due to the pandemic, it will have to play a more significant role in self-preparation. Initially, we used the system to evaluate competitive tasks and later examinations. In this period, the feedback was limited to accepting or rejecting the submitted solutions. A submitted solution is accepted if the application produces the appropriate output for the problem's input. Usually, we test the submissions with several inputs (test cases) for each problem. To provide additional information about the reason for rejection, we would like to supplement test cases with comments (annotations) that identify the test cases' unique properties. Our goal is to help identify the subproblems that need improvement in case of a partially correct solution. In our article, we would like to present the potential of this development. We chose a problem that received an impressive number of solutions. We created new test cases for the problem with annotations, and by re-evaluating the submissions, we compared how much extra information students and instructors obtained using the annotations. The presented example proves that this new development direction is necessary for students' self-preparation and increases differentiated education possibilities.

Megjegyzések:In the teaching/training of programmers, the development of mathematical skills is given as much priority as that of IT skills. A complex IT problem solution is inconceivable without adequate mathematical background knowledge. In our research, we would like to show this connection through the analysis of programming tasks, for which we use the automatic solution evaluation system developed by the Faculty of Informatics of the University of Debrecen almost a decade ago and the data accumulated during its use. We examine the effectiveness of users in solving programming tasks that require mathematical and IT knowledge, compare performance in different programming languages, and look for topics where improvement is needed. The results show that, contrary to our expectations, students perform better on tasks that require both mathematics and informatics skills.

Megjegyzések:Each term in the title is relatively new, but all of them emerge more and more frequently in various contexts. News regularly introduces some interesting events from the world of 3D printing (that is strongly related to 3D modeling) and mathability also has an impact on many scientific research works. This paper makes an attempt to explore how mathability appears in the field of 3D modeling by examining the features of Tinkercad. The investigation is completed by analyzing assignments submitted by students. My objective was to get some impression of what extent the students use their algorithmic skills in 3D modeling. Does a not typical programming interface encourage or discourage the application of their programming skills? The results show that the students majored in computer science bachelor program had a weak affinity to demonstrate how they can apply tools of higher mathability in Tinkercad, thus the unusual framework and the task did not inspire them enough.

Megjegyzések:Based on research results and experience, students who finish K-12 education lack the necessary computational thinking skills that they would need to continue their studies effectively in the field of computer sciences. Our goal was to examine the currently used methods and programming languages in K-12 education and to find and present an alternative approach. Using visual programming environments in education to develop students` computational thinking and algorithmic skills is a widespread practice in K-12 education. These environments mostly provide simplified versions of ?real" programming languages. In this paper, we present event-action-based visual programming, as an alternative to today`s most frequently used methods, which do not restrict the students` development ability to simplified and basic applications while retaining the advantages of visual languages. We organized four workshops in which we presented this programming approach to four distinct groups involved in education. The participants were guided to develop a multiplatform mobile application using Construct 2 event-action-based visual programming. At the end of the sessions we collected data in the form of group interviews and questionnaires on the possibilities of including event-action based visual programming in computer science education. Based on the results, the participants found the method suitable for beginner programmers to help them lay the foundations for more complex, text-based programming languages and to develop a positive attitude towards programming.

Megjegyzések:The dissemination of research results might be as crucial as the research itself. The widely accepted two major forms of dissemination are written papers and live presentations. On the surface, if we see the problem in hyper attention mode, these documents are different in nature. However, their preparation requires the same problemsolving approach, and beyond that, they share the fundamental rules of design since both are extended text documents, with varying proportions of text and/or non-text contents and static and/or dynamic media types. Closely related to this problem is the phenomenon of different types of attention (hyper and deep attention), thinking (fast and slow) modes, and problem-solving approaches (high- and low-mathability). In the world of immense and various forms of data and information, the role of so-called hyper attention is fundamental and inevitable, but the presence of deep attention is essential as well. In the present paper the knowledge items involved and shared in the design and the preparation of text-based documents are detailed from the view of concept-based problem-solving, the perspective of attention and thinking modes, along with samples originated from various sources and subject matters. The aims are to discuss the theoretical background of effective and efficient document design and preparation and to call attention to the consequences of ignoring, neglecting the proper use of attention types and thinking modes.

Megjegyzések:The Ontology for Linked Open University Data (OLOUD) is a practical approach to model course information at a typical Hungarian university. OLOUD aims to integrate data from several sources and provide personal timetables, navigation and other types of help for students and lecturers. The modeled domains include curricula, subjects, courses, semesters and personnel, but also buildings and events. Although there are several ontologies for the mentioned domains, selecting a set of ontologies fitting our use case was not an easy task. We summarize problems we met such as missing links, inconsistencies as well as many overlaps between ontologies. Finally, OLOUD acts as a glue for a selection of existing ontologies, and thus enables us to formulate SPARQL queries for a wide range of practical questions of university students.

Megjegyzések:Telemedicine instruments and e-Health mobile wearable devices are designed to enhance patients' quality of life. The adequate man-and-machine cognitive ecosystem is the missing link for that in healthcare. This research program is dedicated to deliver the suitable solution. This research's goal is the establishment of adaptive informatics framework for telemedicine. This is achieved through the deployed open telemedicine interoperability hub-system. The presented inter-cognitive sensor-sharing system solution augments the healthcare ecosystem through extended interconnection among the telemedicine, IoT e-Health and hospital information system domains. The general purpose of this experiment is building an augmented, adaptive, cognitive and also universal healthcare information technology ecosphere. This study structures the actual questions and answers regarding the missing links and gaps between the emerging Sensor Hub technology and the traditional hospital information systems. The Internet-of-Things space penetrated the personal and industrial environments. The e-Health smart devices are neither widely accepted nor deployed in the ordinary healthcare service. This paper reviews the major technological burdens and proposes necessary actions for enhancing the healthcare service level with Sensor Hub and Internet-of-Things technologies. Hereby we report the studies on varying simplex, duplex, full-duplex, data package- and file-based information technology modalities establishing stable system interconnection among clinical instruments, healthcare systems and eHealth smart devices in trilateral cooperation comprising the University of Debrecen Department of Information Technology, Semmelweis University Second Paediatric Clinic and T-Systems Healthcare Competence Center Central and Eastern Europe.

Megjegyzések:Utilizing dynamic resource allocation for load balancing is considered as an important optimization process in cloud computing. In order to achieve maximum resource efficiency and scalability in a speedy manner this process is concerned with multiple objectives for an effective distribution of loads among virtual machines. In this realm, exploring new algorithms, as well as development of novel algorithms, is highly desired for technological advancement and continued progress in resource allocation application in cloud computing. Accordingly, this paper explores the application of two relatively new optimization algorithms and further proposes a hybrid algorithm for load balancing which can contribute well in maximizing the throughput of the cloud provider's network. The proposed algorithm is a hybrid of teaching - learning - based optimization algorithm (TLBO) and grey wolves optimization algorithm (GW). The hybrid algorithm performs more efficiently than utilizing every single one of these algorithms. Furthermore, it well balances the priorities and effectively considers load balancing based on time, cost, and avoidance of local optimum traps, which consequently leads to minimal amount of waiting time. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, a comparison with the TLBO and GW algorithms is conducted and the experim ental results are presented.
