Megjegyzések:The production of micropropagated plants in plant-tissue-culture laboratories and nurseries is the most important method for propagation of many economic plants. Micropropagation based on tissue-culture technology involves large-scale propagation, as it allows multiplication of a huge number of true-to-type propagules in a very short time and in a very limited space, as well as all year round, regardless of the climate. However, applying plant-tissue-culture techniques for the commercial propagation of plants may face a lot of obstacles or troubles that could result from technical, biological, physiological, and/or genetical reasons, or due to overproduction or the lack of facilities and professional technicians, as shown in the current study. Moreover, several disorders and abnormalities are discussed in the present review. This study aims to show the most serious problems and obstacles of plant micropropagation, and their solutions from both scientific and technical sides. This review, as a first report, includes different challenges in plant micropropagation (i.e., contamination, delay of subculture, burned plantlets, browning, in vitro rooting difficulty, somaclonal variations, hyperhydricity, shoot tip necrosis, albino plantlets, recalcitrance, shoot abnormalities, in vitro habituation) in one paper. Most of these problems are related to scientific and/or technical reasons, and they could be avoided by following the micropropagation protocol suitable for each plant species. The others are dominant in plant-tissue-culture laboratories, in which facilities are often incomplete, or due to poor infrastructure and scarce funds.

Cím:Combined foliar and soil application of silica nanoparticles enhances the growth, flowering period and flower characteristics of marigold (Tagetes erecta L.) / Eman A. Attia, Nevien Elhawat
Dátum:2021
ISSN:0304-4238
Megjegyzések:In recent years, the utilization of nanoparticles, especially in agricultural sector, has been intensively gained the interest of policymakers and the public. Most of these nanoparticles are applied singularly through foliar or soil applications. However, no reports are highlighting the interaction between foliar and soil application of nanoparticles, particularly silica nanoparticles (SiNPs). This study reports the differences between the singular and combined (foliar and soil) applications of SiNPs on the ornamental model marigold (Tagetes erecta L.) using different concentrations of amorphous SiNPs in pot experiments carried out under open field conditions during two consecutive seasons (2017 and 2018). The results proved the potentiality of SiNPs on plant growth where all the treated plants, regardless of the SiNPs concentration and delivery technique, displayed higher values for all the measured parameters compared to the control plants. Moreover, results demonstrated that the soil application of 200 mg L?? 1 resulted in higher values of plant height, number of branches, and root length than the foliar application of the same SiNPs concentration. On the other hand, the foliar application of 200 mg L?? 1 significantly increased flower's traits over the soil application. The enhancement effect of SiNPs on plant biometrics, physiology, and properties of flower strongly linked to the Si content in plant leaves. The highest Si content corresponded to the combined foliar and soil application. Consequently, the higher number of flowers, flower's diameter, fresh and dry masses of flower, flowering period, and days taken to first bud initiation linked to plants received jointly 200 and 600 mg L?? 1 through foliar and soil application, respectively.

Dátum:2022
ISSN:0567-7572
Megjegyzések:The cultivated agricultural area is 5.3 million hectares, which is 57.5 per cent of total area of country, providing outstanding opportunities for agriculture. The last decades show more frequent and more severe impact of drought, yet the area with outdoor irrigation system is only 144 thousand hectares, but no more than 100 thousand hectares are irrigated by producers. The increase of irrigable areas would be a huge development opportunity for Hungarian open field plant production. This is even more important in light of the expected negative impacts of climate change in the region. For this reason, the Government treats the spreading and sustainable development of irrigation management, protection and utilization of water resources as a priority, which is confirmed by the 1744/2017. (X. 17.) Government Regulation of Irrigation Development Strategy. As part of the Strategy, the Hungarian Chamber of Agriculture undertook to carry out a survey in the potential areas with most potential for implementation of irrigation development, i.e. current delimited irrigation network impact area based on 68 surface water bodies. This affected 1.2 million hectares and 43 026 producers. The producers want to irrigate 388.5 thousand hectares from the 1.2 million in the future, of which 120 thousand hectares are currently an area with irrigation system, whereas 268.5 thousand hectares of new irrigation demand appeared. In the largest area of vegetables in the future, producers want to irrigate sweet corn (33.6 thousand hectares). From these 33.6 thousand hectares 9.8 thousand hectares have already had completed irrigation system and 23.8 thousand hectares of new irrigation demand. We made the estimation based on producers` responses, that the future irrigation purpose what economic benefits can be realized. We calculated in detail the profitability indices of sweet corn. Production value of dry cultivated sweet corn was between 1.2-1.9 thousand EUR, while it changed between 1.5-2.78 thousand EUR/hectare in case of irrigated sweet corn production. We accounted of different soil conditions and drought zones to the investigation of regional differences of sweet corn`s profitability, and we calculated with different years and the territorial variation of yields.

Dátum:2023
ISSN:2311-7524
Megjegyzések:Saffron (Crocus sativus) is the most expensive spice in the world and a valuable medicinal plant. In this study, the flowering, vegetative growth performance, and daughter corm formation of potted saffron were investigated in six growing media: loamy soil, silty soil, sandy soil, peatmoss, peatmoss + sandy soil, and peatmoss + foam. The highest values of the stigma fresh weight, the root weight, and the number and diameter of daughter corms were observed in plants grown in soil with a light texture, i.e., sandy soil or peatmoss + foam, although smaller daughter corms were produced by sandy soil-grown plants. Compared with loamy soil (heavy soil), the peatmoss + foam growing medium increased the leaf pigment levels and the number of leaves and daughter corms, and it produced the highest number of daughter corms with diameters of >= 2 cm. Compared with plants in other media, saffron plants grown in loamy soil had higher catalase and peroxidase activities but lower polyphenol oxidase activity. Overall, saffron could be cultivated and produced in growing media with various pH values (4.00-9.25), although a mixture of peatmoss and foam was the optimal growing medium for potted saffron production. These findings are beneficial for selecting the optimal growing media/soil for saffron cultivation in farmlands.

Dátum:2014
ISSN:0567-7572
Megjegyzések:The ascomycete fungus, Cryphonectria parasitica (Murr.) Barr, is an important fungal pathogen of chestnut in Europe and North America. The fungus grows into the bark up to the cambium, causing typical diffuse cancers and the death of distal parts of the trunks or branches. The pathogen kills the infected tree branches and the rapid death of the entire tree take place which is causing high environmental and economic concerns. In this study we employed a part of the translation elongation factor 1 subunit alpha (EF-1α=tef1) and ITS region, as a potential genetic markers to infer phylogenetic relationships among Cryphonectria parasitica isolates. The translation elongation factor 1 subunit alpha (EF-1α=tef1) containing both introns and exons and ITS region containing the internal transcribed spacer regions 1 and 2 and the 5.8S rDNA, as a potential genetic markers to infer phylogenetic relationships among Cryphonectria parasitica isolates. Translation elongation factor 1 subunit alpha (EF1α=tef1) is part of the cytosolic EF1 complex, whose primary function is to promote the binding of aminoacyl-tRNA to the ribosome in a GTP-dependent process. Simultaneously, elongation factor 1α (EF-1α) is a highly conserved ubiquitous protein that has been suggested to have desirable properties for phylogenetic inference and population genetic studies. Ribosomal DNA (rDNA) has long been used as a potential marker for phylogenetic studies. rRNA genes are organized in clusters of tandemly repeated units, each of which consists of coding regions (18S, 5.8S, and 28S) and 2 internal transcribed spacers (ITS) and intergenic spacer (formerly called the Non-Transcibed Spacer, NTS) region. While the coding regions are evolutionarily conserved and have been utilized for phylogenetic inferences for major phyla, the 2 ITS regions are appropriate for detecting differences between co-specific individuals and are hence potentially useful markers to study the relationships of populations and closely related species in fungal, plant, and animal taxa due to their relatively rapid evolutionary rates.

Cím:Responses of Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) Breeding Lines to Osmotic Stress Induced in In Vitro Shoot Culture / Hanász Alexandra, Dobránszki Judit, Mendler-Drienyovszki Nóra, Zsombik László, Magyar-Tábori Katalin
Dátum:2022
ISSN:2311-7524
Megjegyzések:In vitro experiments were conducted to study the responses of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) genotypes to osmotic stress. In vitro shoot cultures of 27 breeding lines and their drought-tolerant parents (referent lines: C103 and C107) were tested under osmotic stress induced by addition of PEG 6000 (Mw = 6000; 5.0, 7.5, 10.0%, w/v), D-mannitol (0.1, 0.2, 0.3 M) and PEG 600 (Mw = 600; 2.5, 5.0, 7.5%, w/v) to the Murashige-Skoog medium. Stress index (SI) was calculated from shoot length (SL) and root length (RL), root numbers (RN) and the rate of surviving shoots (SR) (SISL;RL;RN;SR = Parameter(SL;RL;RN;SR) of treated shoots/Parameter(SL;RL;RN;SR) of control shoots x 100) to compare genotypes. In the average of each breeding line and concentration, the osmotic agents resulted in SI values of 40.1, 60.8, 82.6 and 76.0 for SISL, SIRL, SIRN and SISR, respectively. In general, all SI values of C103 and SIRL,RN of C107 were significantly higher than those of the breeding lines. Nine breeding lines were found to be promising based on their final ranking. According to the results, 7.5% and 10% PEG 6000 or 0.2 M and 0.3 M D-mannitol treatments proved to be suitable for the selection of osmotic stress-tolerant genotypes.

Dátum:2012
ISSN:0304-4238
Megjegyzések:In a 4-year Hungarian study, 10 apple cultivars (5 scab-resistant and 5 scab-susceptible) were evaluated for yield, scab incidence, codling moth injury, soluble solid concentration, and calcium content of fruit in high-density integrated and organic apple orchards. Yield was significantly higher in the integrated plots compared to the organic ones in all years (mean values were 18 and 13 kg tree?1, respectively). Yield was significantly lower on the younger trees (5-6 years old) compared to the older ones (13-14 years old) in both production systems (mean values were 14 and 17 kg tree-1, respectively). Mean final scab and codling moth incidences were considerably higher in the organic than in the integrated production system, except for the resistant cultivars which had no fruit scab symptoms. Fruit of all cultivars was protected in the integrated production system (mean fruit scab and codling moth incidences were below 2.5 and 4%, respectively). Only the scab-susceptible cultivars were moderately or highly infected by harvest in the organic production system (mean fruit scab incidence was above 5%), while all cultivars (including scab-resistant ones) were highly damaged by codling moth by harvest in the organic production system (mean incidence was above 20%). Mean soluble solid concentrations and calcium contents were significantly higher in the organic production system only in one year compared to the integrated one (mean values were 17 and 16%, and 204 and 191 mg kg-1, respectively), and cultivars of scab-susceptibile vs scab-resistant had significant effect on soluble solid concentrations and calcium contents also in one year (mean values were 16 vs 17 kg tree-1, and 202 vs 175 kg tree?1, respectively). Our results indicated that a multiscale selection approach is required for choosing cultivars for integrated, and especially for organic growing methods in order to facilitate successful apple growing in environmentally friendly production systems.

Megjegyzések:As a result of global warming related to the development of industry and agriculture, the proportion of atmospheric carbon dioxide has increased, and temperatures have risen to unprecedented levels. As a result, heat stress, aridity, and salinity in soil has increased, leading to significant research focused on soil deterioration and reduced agricultural productivity. Therefore, it is necessary to provide the means to maintain crop productivity. Agricultural re? searchisseekingnovelsolutions thatguarantee stability and increase the production and quality of crops, including innovative models for feeding crops using non?traditional methods, the most important of which is nourishing plants via their leaves to ensure the cessation of their soil consumption. It is considered an integrated pest?control method, and the technique could be included in plant nutrition. Foliar nutrition has been shown to be a perfect substitute for providing secondary nutrients and micronutrients to plants; however, it cannot be substituted for the fertiga? tion or the fertilization of maintain the soil`s macronutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus, and potas? sium). This study shed light on the most important research, conclusions, and generalizations on the technique of foliar feeding using organic acids and biological treatments, especially for tomato and pepper plants.
