Cím:Combined foliar and soil application of silica nanoparticles enhances the growth, flowering period and flower characteristics of marigold (Tagetes erecta L.) / Eman A. Attia, Nevien Elhawat

Megjegyzések:In recent years, the utilization of nanoparticles, especially in agricultural sector, has been intensively gained the interest of policymakers and the public. Most of these nanoparticles are applied singularly through foliar or soil applications. However, no reports are highlighting the interaction between foliar and soil application of nanoparticles, particularly silica nanoparticles (SiNPs). This study reports the differences between the singular and combined (foliar and soil) applications of SiNPs on the ornamental model marigold (Tagetes erecta L.) using different concentrations of amorphous SiNPs in pot experiments carried out under open field conditions during two consecutive seasons (2017 and 2018). The results proved the potentiality of SiNPs on plant growth where all the treated plants, regardless of the SiNPs concentration and delivery technique, displayed higher values for all the measured parameters compared to the control plants. Moreover, results demonstrated that the soil application of 200 mg L?? 1 resulted in higher values of plant height, number of branches, and root length than the foliar application of the same SiNPs concentration. On the other hand, the foliar application of 200 mg L?? 1 significantly increased flower's traits over the soil application. The enhancement effect of SiNPs on plant biometrics, physiology, and properties of flower strongly linked to the Si content in plant leaves. The highest Si content corresponded to the combined foliar and soil application. Consequently, the higher number of flowers, flower's diameter, fresh and dry masses of flower, flowering period, and days taken to first bud initiation linked to plants received jointly 200 and 600 mg L?? 1 through foliar and soil application, respectively.

Cím:Yield response, pest damage and fruit quality parameters of scab-resistant and scab-susceptible apple cultivars in integrated and organic production systems / Imre J. Holb, Péter Dremák, Klára Bitskey, István Gonda
Dátum:2012
ISSN:0304-4238
Megjegyzések:In a 4-year Hungarian study, 10 apple cultivars (5 scab-resistant and 5 scab-susceptible) were evaluated for yield, scab incidence, codling moth injury, soluble solid concentration, and calcium content of fruit in high-density integrated and organic apple orchards. Yield was significantly higher in the integrated plots compared to the organic ones in all years (mean values were 18 and 13 kg tree?1, respectively). Yield was significantly lower on the younger trees (5-6 years old) compared to the older ones (13-14 years old) in both production systems (mean values were 14 and 17 kg tree-1, respectively). Mean final scab and codling moth incidences were considerably higher in the organic than in the integrated production system, except for the resistant cultivars which had no fruit scab symptoms. Fruit of all cultivars was protected in the integrated production system (mean fruit scab and codling moth incidences were below 2.5 and 4%, respectively). Only the scab-susceptible cultivars were moderately or highly infected by harvest in the organic production system (mean fruit scab incidence was above 5%), while all cultivars (including scab-resistant ones) were highly damaged by codling moth by harvest in the organic production system (mean incidence was above 20%). Mean soluble solid concentrations and calcium contents were significantly higher in the organic production system only in one year compared to the integrated one (mean values were 17 and 16%, and 204 and 191 mg kg-1, respectively), and cultivars of scab-susceptibile vs scab-resistant had significant effect on soluble solid concentrations and calcium contents also in one year (mean values were 16 vs 17 kg tree-1, and 202 vs 175 kg tree?1, respectively). Our results indicated that a multiscale selection approach is required for choosing cultivars for integrated, and especially for organic growing methods in order to facilitate successful apple growing in environmentally friendly production systems.

Cím:The influence of hail net on the water balance and leaf pigment content of apple orchards / Szabó Andrea, Tamás János, Nagy Attila
Dátum:2021
ISSN:0304-4238
Megjegyzések:Apple production accounts for 60?65 % of all fruit production in Hungary, as one of the most important areas of the fruit production sector. Extreme weather conditions in the continental climate can cause significant problems in apple production. The most important solutions to decrease their effects are irrigation and hail net. In addition to protection against hail damage, the hail net has effect on microclimatic factors, its shading effect has a positive effect on the growth of fruit trees and it reduces the risk of sunburn and transpiration. The aim of our research was to evaluate the effect of hail net on the water balance of Early Gold and Golden Reinders microclimatic factors on the basis of thermal imaging, water potential measurement, canopy dry matter content and to analyze the effect on pigment content. The research was carried out on a weekly basis in July and August 2019 at the Horticultural Unit of Pallag, University of Debrecen, Hungary. Based on our results, the air temperature was 2.91 % lower (p = 0.150) and the relative humidity was 3.16 % higher (p = 0.0001) under the hail net. Results also revealed that the foliage temperature was 7.28 % lower (p = 0.006), the water potential value of the foliage was 20.80 % higher (p = 0.399) under the hail net, while the dry matter content of the leaf was 4.76 % lower than in orchards outside the hail net. Canopy chlorophyll concentration was 10.24 % (p = 0.066) higher and carotenoid values were also higher (16.24 %, p = 0.004) in hail net protected circumstances. Based on the results, the hail net has a favorable effect on the water balance of apple orchards and pigment content of apple leaves through microclimatic conditions, partially offsetting the negative effects caused by summer heat and drought stress.
