Cím:Simple command-line open-source software to analyse behavioural observation video recordings / Miklós Bán, Mihály Földvári, Melinda Babits, Zoltán Barta
Dátum:2017
ISSN:1217-8837
Megjegyzések:Video techniques are broadly used in the field of behaviour sciences, thus there is an increasing interest in softwares that simplify the processing of recordings. One of the difficulties is that observed objects can exhibit a wide variety of behaviours that cannot usually be recognized and recorded automatically, therefore the video has to be watched and analysed manually by humans. We have developed a simple, open-source and free command-line video analysis software, that helps the processing of observation sessions from recordings and helps to verify the processed events.

Cím:Spatio-temporal structure and reproductive success in a Rook (Corvus frugilegus) colony / Feró Orsolya, Bán Miklós, Barta Zoltán
Dátum:2019
ISSN:1217-8837
Megjegyzések:We have studied how individual decisions about timing of breeding and nest location affected the reproductive success of rooks by tracing the formation of a rook breeding colony in Hortobágy NP (Hungary), during the breeding season in 1999. We have found that birds who built nests earlier also laid eggs earlier and had larger clutch size but had no more offspring than late nesters. Distance of the nest from the centre or edge of the colony did not affect the reproductive success though rooks generally settled closer to the centre and further from the edge than it can be expected by assuming random distribution. The colony showed high breeding synchrony since date of egg laying varied less than date of nesting but synchrony did not influence the breeding success. Hatchling's survival rate and number of offspring increased with local nest density and rooks clustered their nests more than it can be expected by random settlement. Nest sites of early and late nesters did not differ regarding the distance from the centre or the edge of the colony but late nesters chose nest sites in more densely populated regions. The results indicate that individuals may follow different strategies to increase their reproductive success. It is prospectively advantageous to build the nest and lay eggs earlier, in turn, it's worth nesting in already more densely nested areas for late beginners. We suggest that a game theoretical approach may be useful if we try to understand the adaptive significance of colonial breeding.

Cím:Dragonfly assemblages of a shallow lake type reservoir (Tisza-tó, Hungary) and its surroundings / Jakab T., Müller Z., Dévai G., Tóthmérész B.
Dátum:2002
ISSN:1217-8837
Megjegyzések:The dragonfly fauna of the typical water bodies of the Reservoir Tisza-tó was characterised based on a two-year study. We collected 728 imagoes, 384 larvae and 194 exuviae during the study, and there were 101 observations of imagos. We confirmed the presence of 39 species (13 Zygoptera and 26 Anisoptera). We distinguished 5 types of water bodies inside and around the Reservoir Tisza-tó: leaking canals, a new inundated area of the reservoir, native water bodies inside the reservoir, in- and outflows, and River Tisza inside the reservoir. Both traditional diversity statistics and scalable diversity characterisation suggested that the most species-rich were the native water bodies, with a species-pool of 34 species; there were 30 species in the in- and outflows, while the leaking canals and the reservoir were moderately species-rich with 25 species each. The River Tisza was relatively species-poor compared to the other water bodies (12 species). Cluster analysis of the species composition revealed that the fauna of the River Tisza is clearly separated from the other water bodies. The fauna of the new inundated area, the native water bodies, and the in- and outflows were similar; these water bodies had direct connection to the reservoir. The fauna of the leaking canals was slightly different from them.

Dátum:2017
ISSN:1217-8837
Megjegyzések:Craniophora ligustri is the most widely distributed species within the genus Craniophora. We used geometric morphometry to assess the shape variation of male valvae in the Western Palaearctic and Russian Far East populations of C. ligustri including the subspecies C. l.carbolucana and C. l. hyrcanica. Outlines were transformed using Hangle Fourier method followed by shape analyses using multivariate statistics (CVA, UPGMA). Based on the results the Far Eastern sample is clearly separated from the Western Palaearctic populations. The West Palaearctic samples were split to two demes, a Northern and a Southern one. The probable refugia of the Southern deme may have extended from South Italy, the Balkan Peninsula across the Euxinic coast of Asia Minor to the Talysh and Northern Iran (Hyrcanian part of Elburs Mts), while the refugia of the Northern deme have been supposedly extra-Mediterranean.

Cím:Dragonfly assemblages in the upper parts of the River Tisza : a comparison of larval and exuvial data in three channel types / Kolozsvári István, Szabó László József, Dévai György
Dátum:2015
ISSN:1217-8837
Megjegyzések:We studied dragonfly assemblages in the Ukrainian section of the River Tisza, which still shows several natural (unregulated) properties. In 2010 and 2011 larvae and exuviae were collected in the vicinity of the villages Vilok ( Tiszaújlak), Nove Szelo ( Tiszaújhely), Tiszobikeny ( , Tiszabökény) and of the towns Vinohragyiv ( Nagyszőlős) and Huszt ( Huszt). We collected our samples from 8 sites in the main channel, 2 sites in side channels and 3 sites in two dead channels. We collected 255 larvae and 1587 exuviae, from which 8 species of dragonflies were identified [Gomphus vulgatissimus (Linnaeus, 1758), Stylurus flavipes (Charpentier, 1825), Onychogomphus forcipatus (Linnaeus, 1758), Ophiogomphus cecilia (Fourcroy, 1785), Somatochlora metallica (van der Linden, 1825), Calopteryx splendens (Harris, 1782), Platycnemis pennipes (Pallas, 1771), and Sympecma fusca (van der Linden, 1820)]. We compared the species composition of dragonflies in the three habitats. In the case of larvae in the main channel G. vulgatissimus (48.0%), C. splendens (29.6%) and O. forcipatus (20.8%) dominated, while in the dead channels C. splendens (49.5%) and P. pennipes (23.7%) were found most frequently. In the side channels G. vulgatissimus, O. forcipatus and C. splendens were the most frequent species. S. Flavipes appeared only in the main and side channels, while S. metallica and S. fusca were only detected in the dead channels.

Cím:Morphological patterns of a nightingale population in a contact zone of Luscinia megarhynchos and L. luscinia / Kováts, D., Végvári, Z., Varga, Z.
Dátum:2013
ISSN:1217-8837
Megjegyzések:We investigated morphological characteristics of a population in a contact zone of two sister species of nightingales in North-East Hungary. The aim of our study was to analyse and interpret the current morphological patterns of a nightingale population in three populations, called Bódva, Tiszalúc-Bárányszeg and Tiszabercel-Tiszatelek. The research was carried out between 2006 and 2010 at the northern sites of rivers Tisza, and Bódva, where 63 nightingales were examined altogether. The three populations were compared with each other for several morphological characteristics. The populations were significantly different in wing-pointedness, wing-symmetry and body mass and, although marginally, in tail length. Based on the combination of two morphological traits (the relative length of the short first primary and the proportion of length of the second and fourth primary),seven (11.1%) of all investigated birds were identified as interspecific hybrids. In conclusion, we suggest a possible interspecific hybridization between the two nightingale species in the studied area. We assume that the modification in the structure of riverine vegetation might be one of the reasons of the relatively high proportion of hybrid individuals.

Cím:Inquiline effects on a multiocular gall community / László Z., Tóthmérész B.
Dátum:2006
ISSN:1217-8837
Megjegyzések:The influence of inquiline on the gall of Diplolepis rosae (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae) and its community was investigated. It is expectable that inquilines should cause major changes in the gall-community. Evidences for inquiline effect on multilocular galls are provided and the result suggests that the outcome shows similarity with unilocular ones. Gall size, number of emerged individuals and diversity increased significantly for inquilined galls. Inquiline-free galls showed highly significant positive correlation between gall size and number of emerged individuals. The presence of inquiline entirely annihilated the correlation between gall size and number of emerged individuals. This radical change implied within relationships of gall size and specimen number indicates that inquilines play an important role in shaping the community structure of D. rosae gall.
