Megjegyzések:Natural-abundance isotopic substitution in isotopically prochiral groups of otherwise achiral molecules can provide stochastically formed enantiomeric excesses which exceed the sensitivity threshold of sensitive asymmetric autocatalytic (Soai-type) reactions. This kind of induction of chirality should be taken into consideration in in vitro model experiments and offer a new kind of entry into primary prebiotic or early biotic enantioselection in the earliest stages of molecular evolution.

Megjegyzések:The applicability of capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) for the determination of cephalosporin antibiotics has been studied. In the case of the separation conditions optimised for fourteen cephalosporins, the precision of migration times was smaller than 1.3% RSD, and the values of the limit of detection ranged between 0.42 and 1.62 mug/ml. The proposed CZE method was applied to study the stability of cephalosporins in water at different temperatures (+25, +4 and -18 degreesC). It was established that the degradation of most cephalosporins was not higher than 20% at room temperature within 4 h of dissolution of these antibiotics.

Megjegyzések:Several sources of pollution can be found in the catchment area of the River Tisza and some of them significantly contribute to the pollution of the river and its active floodplain. In this paper the accumulation of four metals (Zn, Cu, Co, Ni) in soil and plant (Zea mays, Urtica Dioica L.) samples and their relations to the soil characteristics were studied near Gulács (Hungary). Since the metal availability is also an important factor, the Lakanen-Erviö (NH4-acetate + EDTA) extractable metal content of the soil was also determined. Summarizing the results we can say that, considering the metal accumulation, the granulometric composition plays the most important role among the soil characteristics. Significant correlation was found between the acid-soluble and the Lakanen-Erviö extracted metal concentrations, but in most cases (Co, Cu, Zn) no connection was found between the easily soluble metal content and the concentrations accumulated by the plants. Regarding the land use more Co and Zn was found in the soil samples of orchards, but more Cu and Ni accumulated in the soils of ploughlands.

Megjegyzések:Our main purpose was to study the flora, the microflora and the enzyme activity in soil of polluted areas, and to identify the factors affecting them. Besides studying the percentage distribution of species in the soil, we determined the total number of culturable microbes as well. Enzyme activities of phosphatase, invertase, dehydrogenase, and cellulase, were also measured in the samples of the contaminated soils. Total heavy metal content in soil samples was determined by analysis of Cd, Cu, Fe, Pb and Zn using XRF technique. According to our examinations, ratio of Actinomyces and Pseudomonas genera decreased while the Bacillus sp. was found to be increased in the soils. Wastes reduce the activity of soil enzymes (cellulase, phosphatase, invertase), however, the activity of dehydrogenase increase.

Megjegyzések:A molecule library containing 55 aurone- and thioaurone-type structures has been designed and synthesised. Reversed phase high performance liquid chromatographic (RP-HPLC) method has been developed to separate these compounds and to characterise their lipophilicity by experimental method (k'). The experimental lipophilicity data have been compared with the computer calculated lipophilicity parameters (CLOGPs) of the same molecules. In general, good correlations between the measured and calculated lipophilicities have been found with the exception of structure isomers and compounds capable for hydrogen bonding. The chromatographic method was suitable to separate the structure (ortho and para) isomers of aurone and thioaurones and was sensitive enough to differentiate their lipophilicities. Our findings suggest the usefulness of the chromatographic method in fast characterisation of the lipophilicity of structurally closely related molecules.

Megjegyzések:Verrucosidins, a methylated alpha-pyrone class of polyketides rarely reported upon, have been implicated in one or more neurological diseases. Despite the significance of verrucosidins as neurotoxins, the absolute configurations of most of the derivatives have not been accurately characterized yet. In this study, three pairs of C-9 epimeric verrucosidin derivatives, including the known compounds penicyrones A and B (1a/1b) and 9-O-methylpenicyrones A and B (2a/2b), the new compounds 9-O-ethylpenicyrones A and B (3a/3b), together with the related known derivative verrucosidin (4), were isolated and identified from the culture extract of Penicillium cyclopium SD-413, which was obtained from the marine sediment collected from the East China sea. Their structures were established based on an in-depth analysis of nuclear magnetic resonances (NMR) and mass spectroscopic data. Determination of the absolute configurations of these compounds was accomplished by Mosher's method and time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) calculations of electronic circular dichroism (ECD) and optical rotation (OR). The configurational assignment of penicyrone A demonstrated that the previously reported C-6 absolute configuration of verrucosidin derivatives needs to be revised from (6S) to (6R). The 9R/9S epimers of compounds 1-3 were found to exhibit growth inhibition against some pathogenic bacteria, indicating that they have potential as lead compounds for the creation of antimicrobial agents.
