Megjegyzések:International students have a significant impact on the national economy in numerous fields, which is first and foremost realised in the sectors directly affected by their expenditures. Further, these economic impacts have spillover effects through intersectoral relations. Their patterns are in correlation, inter alia, with the system of supplier networks, the characteristics of products and product groups, and the contributions realised in the fields required to produce goods and services. Accordingly, the effect of one consumption unit is multiplied as it ♭passes through' through these relations systems, and thus, many other sectors of the economy may also benefit from it beyond the producers and service providers directly involved. To measure these spillover effects, the present study relied on the findings of a questionnaire survey conducted among students in the academic year of 2019/2020 (n=6296 students), the input-output analysis (IOA) published by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (HCSO), and the multipliers calculated based on that as well as other data items of the HCSO. The results showed that in 2020, as a result of international students' consumption, 213 billion HUF worth of total output and approximately 124 billion worth of gross value-added were generated in the national economy as a whole. Moreover, student consumption also generated imports, amounting to approximately 25 billion HUF. In addition to the above dimensions, the consumption of students generated employment, and thus, income. As a consequence of the spending by the respective groups of international students, approximately 20,000 new jobs were created in the national economy as a whole, and the generated income exceeded 67 billion HUF, of which 53 billion were spent on wages and salaries. The results of the study are beneficial for all those who are affected by the presence of international students, the higher education institutions hosting them, and businesses building on their demands, and in a broad sense, the entire population of the host cities. They can also be useful for decision makers at the national, regional, and local levels.

Dátum:2015
ISSN:2063-9538 2064-8243
Megjegyzések:Labour-intensive industries have declined in the East Central European economy after the beginning of the millennium. Given this deterioration, significant employers are vanishing from rural areas, leaving behind serious employment problems in regions which are less capable of resilient restructuring. This article examines this shrinkage from a geographical aspect in the context of the Hungarian leather and footwear industry. This study focuses on the interpretation and explanation of the spatial differentiation that accompanies this shrinking process. The aim of this paper is to reveal the influencing factors that stand in the background of spatially uneven development. The analysis - embedded in the theoretical framework of global production networks - is based on the corporate database of the Hungarian Central Statistical Office and invokes the experience of interviews carried out with representatives of industrial actors as well. In addition to an understanding of spatial processes, the intention of the authors was to investigate the issues to be addressed in certain locations and under what conditions the long-standing industrial culture related to the sector can be preserved.

Cím:The impact of the Trianon Peace Treaty on the border zones : an attempt to analyse the historic territorial development pattern and its changes in Hungary / Pénzes János
Dátum:2020
ISSN:2063-9538 2064-8243
Megjegyzések:The multidimensional approach of territorialdevelopment is applied in the research. A composite indicator created for the presentsituation and named 'territorial developmentindex' was adapted to the Hungarian historicaldata from 1910 on the LAU 2 level. The effects of the Trianon borders were observed on the basis of the comparative analysis of the historical and present development indices. The common methodological basis provided the opportunity to compare the outputs of the computations. Some of the underdeveloped areas along the present state border of Hungary have existed even before the demarcation of the Trianon borders (dominantly along the Eastern-Slovakian border, the Northern part of the Romanian border and along the Slovenian border). Large scale disparities existed at the beginning of the 20th century which decreased significantly by 2016. The general tendency ofconvergence influenced the border zones as well ? both closing up to the Hungarian average and within-region convergence could be measured. Contrary to this, the geographicalconcentration of the most underdeveloped settlements (the lowest quantiles of the settlement ranking) became visible along the Eastern-Slovakian, the Ukrainian, the Romanian and the Croatian sections of the border zone. The former hinterlands of the large towns along the Hungarian-Romanian border tended to face negative tendencies in their development paths. The settlements in the border zone characteristically stepped forward along the Slovenian, Austrian and Western-Slovakian border sections. The results tended to draw the attention to the spatial polarization process because significantparts of the underdeveloped territories located along the borders did not exist prior to 1920. Furthermore, the increasing concentration ofdisadvantaged settlements in the border zone was not only the direct effect of the creation ofthe new state boundary but the cumulative result of multiple disadvantageous ongoingsocial processes. However, the border? undoubtedly ? has had a significant role in the conservation and strengthening of the negative tendencies. At the same time, developed zones ? more or less independentlyof the new borders ? became more developed by 2016 (especially along the Western and North-western part of the state border).

Cím:Local Labour System After the Turn of the Millennium in Hungary / Pénzes János, Molnár Ernő, Pálóczi Gábor
Dátum:2015
ISSN:2063-9538 2064-8243
Megjegyzések:The current research puts the issue of functional urban regions (or districts) into the focus delimited by the commuting network of employees. The local labour system (LLS) provided a specific dimension of this complex approach however it is one of the most adequate possibilities to delineate these areas of commuting. The delimitation process consisted of two steps with the separation of employment centres and with the assignment of settlements tothese cores. The alteration of the LLS pattern was also analysed as the investigation was carried out by the census data from 2001 and 2011. The results provided a comprehensive overview aboutthe process of territorial concentration and the instability of peripheral areas. Significant regional disparities of commuting came to light as the consequence of the body of settlement network. The territorial division of the country provided byLLS pattern is fitting to the new and integrated European approach of cities and their hinterlands but it is not alternative against other administrative or statistical divisions of Hungary. However this territorial point of view is in closerrelation to the issues of analysing the local labour market processes or the developments targeting the increase in employment.
