Megjegyzések:The examination of the e®ects of second generation lotralcon B silicone hydrogel (SiH) lenses on the cornea when worn for three years of daily wear. Material and Methods: 55 healthy patients were divided into two groups: current hydrogel contact lens wearers refitted with lotralcon B lenses (Group 1; 28 patients) and neophyte contact lens wearers (Group 2; 27 patients). Each patient's subjective eye comfort was measured with a self-administered questionnaire. The corneas were analyzed using contact specular microscope to measure corneal thickness and the endothelium before the SiH lenses were fitted after four weeks, one month, six months, one year, two years, and three years of lens wear. Results: Subjective complaints of patients in Group 1 were reduced; however patients in Group 2 experienced discomfort during the first two to four weeks of use. In Group 1, objective examinations identified a decrease in endothelial cell density. In Group 2, the endothelial cell density increased slightly in the first two years but decreased after three years. The results indicate that lotrafilcon B slows down the deleterious e®ects of contact lenses. The coe±cient of variation significantly decreased after six months in Group 1 (0.47 vs 0.44; p 1/4 0:049), whereas, in Group 2, the hexagonal cells improved significantly after one month (27.78 vs 28.25; p 1/4 0:025). Conclusion: Based on the subjects involved and the period of time under examination, it can be concluded that high-Dk SiH lenses support the physiological metabolism and functions of the cornea by improving oxygen provision.

Megjegyzések:A healthy lifestyle is important for the success of the upcoming generations and should, therefore, define the approach the society shall take towards sports. A regular physical activity, which is determined by both the health awareness and the available infrastructural facilities, should be part of a healthy lifestyle. In the past few years the development and promotion of sports became a national interest and task in Hungary. The study was conducted using questioners. All together 273 individuals, with an average age of 28.4±11.3 years, were involved, and their sport habits, possibilities, and demands were recorded. The aim was to have the daily needs of the society in connection with sports expressed and revealed. More than 70% of those who took part in the survey regularly, at least weekly, do some physical activity. It is important to note, however, that almost 80% of them were younger than 30 years. While the most important reason, 40.5%, for neglecting sport was the lack of time, many, 9%, complained that there aren't enough sport facilities. On the other hand, 70% would be willing to pay for using these facilities had they been available. When selecting the actual sport to be pursued, financial aspects, health promotion and body building play the most important roles. As expected, the most frequently visited sport events included soccer, other team sports, and swimming. If compared to national surveys ours paints a more positive picture. This is most likely due to the presence and devoted policy of the University and the town of Debrecen for allocating funds to build and develop sport facilities.

Megjegyzések:Introduction:The objective of this study was to investigate the bilateralization of hip fractures. In the majority of cases, patients with hip fractures usually have the sameanatomical type of fracture on the contralateral side on a later date. The aim was to find out if there were radiologically definable characteristics of the femur whichcan prognosticate the fracture type.Patients and methods:In first phase it was a retrospective study on patients treated for hip fractures between January 1996 and June2007. In second phase a prospective study was performedon patients with hip fractures. Anteroposterior views and CT scans were taken of the hips of patients, the unaffectedside was analysed. Results:In phase one 4983 patients were included. 131 patients among the 4983 patients had contralateral hip fracture. The mean age when the contralateral fracture occurred was 77.84 years. The distribution of the fractures showed 84.74% fractures of same anatomical type. In phase two18 patients were included. The mean age was 77.16 years. Lower bone density, thickening of the basal cortex of the neck and increased neck-lesser trochanter angle was foundin femoral neck fractured group.Discussion:Increased anteversion led to higher bending moment of the femoral neck. This caused strengthening of the cortex at the base of the neck. This strengthening of the basal part of the neck results in fractures medial to this area which will be a femoral neck fracture. It is suggested to acceptanteversion as predictor of femoral neck fracture.
