Megjegyzések:Here we report the results of our decades-long study on epiphytic communities from two tributary systems of the Szigetköz section of the Danube River. The main goal of the investigation was to detect changes in the epiphytic communities at structural (core species, changes in the relative abundance of common species) and functional (trait changes) levels as a result of the most important anthropogenic e ects on Szigetköz, i.e., hydro-morphological modifications. We also examined the impact of rehabilitation on the tributary systems in terms of ecological potential. We discovered that mainly motile diatom species characterized the epiphyton due to reduced water volume were introduced into the tributary system after the diversion of the Danube. The ecosystem stabilized in the rehabilitated section, while the non-rehabilitated section showed a worsening tendency, mainly in the parapotamic branches. Our long-term data sets may provide a good basis for comparisons of di erent aquatic ecosystems, to define changes in the abundance of core species and in the structure of community in response to di erent anthropogenic pressures. It is fundamental to determine adaptive traits in assessing the impact of global warming stressors on biodiversity.

Megjegyzések:Maturation (the age when organisms are physiologically capable of breeding) is one of the major life history traits that have pervasive implications for reproductive strategies, fitness, and population growth. Sex differences in maturation are common in nature, although the causes of such differences are not understood. Fisher and Lack proposed that delayed maturation in males is expected when males are under intense sexual selection, but their proposition has never been tested across a wide range of taxa. By using phylogenetic comparative analyses and the most comprehensive dataset to date, including 201 species from 59 avian families, we show that intense sexual selection on males (as indicated by polygamous mating and male-skewed sexual size dimorphism) correlates with delayed maturation. We also show that the adult sex ratio (ASR), an indicator of the social environment, is associated with sex-specific maturation because in species with a female-skewed ASR, males experience later maturation. Phylogenetic path analyses suggest that adult sex ratio drives interspecific changes in the intensity of sexual selection which, in turn, influences maturation. These results are robust to alternative phylogenetic hypotheses and to potential life-history confounds, and they provide the first comprehensive support of Fisher's and Lack's propositions. Importantly, our work suggests that both social environment and mate competition influence the evolution of a major life history trait, maturation.

Megjegyzések:The applicability of capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) for the separation of the deamidated forms of insulin has been studied. 50 mM NH4Ac (pH=9) with 20 % v/v isopropylalcohol was found optimal for efficient separation of insulin from its even 10 deamidated forms. The developed method was efficiently applied for monitoring the degradation rate of insulin and the formation of different deamidation isoforms. Two months after the acidification more than thirty peaks can be observed in the electropherogram, because degradation products other than deamidated components were formed as well. The recorded mass spectra enabled us to assign the exact mass of the components, and thus the identification of insulin isoforms could be accomplished. We think that this study provides useful information on how the determination of several deamidation forms can be carried out with CE-MS, but the identification of the exact position of deamidation sites in the insulin molecule remains a challenge.

Megjegyzések:Life-history theory predicts that, to optimize their fitness, individuals should increase their reproductive effort as their residual reproductive value decreases. Accordingly, several studies have shown that individuals downregulate their glucocorticoid stress response (a proxy of reproductive investment in vertebrates) as they age, and as the subsequent reproductive value decreases. However, and surprisingly, results appear inconsistent, suggesting that the environmental context or the individual state may affect the relationship between age and reproductive effort. Here, we tested for the first time this hypothesis, and more specifically, whether this attenuation of the corticosterone stress response with advancing age depends on the energetic status of individuals. We compared the influence of age on the corticosterone stress response between fasting and non-fasting breeding snow petrels (Pagodroma nivea), an extremely long-lived bird. As expected, we found that the corticosterone stress response was attenuated in old petrels, but only when they were not fasting. Interestingly, this pattern was not apparent in fasting petrels, suggesting that old birds downregulate their corticosterone stress response and increase their parental investment only when they are in good body condition. At the ultimate level, old individuals may maintain a strong corticosterone stress response when fasting because the survival costs of increased stress resistance and parental effort might then outweigh their reproductive benefits.

Megjegyzések:T. Nakahara proved that the set of minimal indices of bicyclic biquadratic number fields with field index 1 is unbounded. We strengthen his result by showing that this set just coincides with the set of positive integers, and every positive integer occurs infinitely many times as minimal index of totally complex bicyclic biquadratic number fields. Moreover, we study the analogous problem for all the other possible values of the field index.

Megjegyzések:In the EU budgetary period 2014-2020 the Hungarian Government devoted significant attention to economic development and its plan was to use 60% of EU regional policy subsidy for this purpose. In the light of this fact, the main aim of our publication is examine the spatial characteristics of the EU economic development aid awarded to local authorities situated in North Great Plain Region (Hajdú-Bihar county, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county, SzabolcsSzatmár-Bereg county), and to point out the differences between the individual areas and settlements. As a result of our research it can be concluded that firstly the smallest settlements were in an unfavourable position (fewer subsidy applications and smaller subsidy amounts), while in case of larger settlements, the examination does not show clear results. Secondly, if we look at administrative functions of settlements, the favourable position of district seats can be observed, which is particularly true in case of the development of industrial parks and industrial areas subsidy topic, Thirdly, examining the socio-economic conditions of settlements, the more unfavourable position of less developed settlements can be observed (lower success rate of subsidy applications), and this was also true for all topics of subsidies.

Megjegyzések:A series of 1-substituted-3-methyl-2-phospholene oxides was prepared from the corresponding 3-phospholene oxides by double bond rearrangement. The 2-phospholene oxides could be obtained by heating the 3-phospholene oxides in methanesulfonic acid, or via the formation of cyclic chlorophosphonium salts. Whereas mixtures of the 2- and 3-phospholene oxides formed, when the isomerization of 3-phospholene oxides was attempted under thermal conditions, or in the presence of a base. The mechanisms of the various double bond migration pathways were elucidated by quantum chemical calculations.
