Dátum:2022
ISSN:2071-1050
Megjegyzések:Changes in land use were studied in 2 km wide peri-urban open spaces of seven small Hungarian towns as part of a RENATUR Interreg Europe (2019-2023) project. The aim of the project is to present best practices related to the sustainable and wise use of the peri-urban open spaces of small European towns. The rate and tendencies of conversion from one land use type to another were evaluated on the basis of a comparison of Corine Land Cover and Land Cover Change databases from 1990, 2000 and 2018. Land use changes in the study areas in different time periods were studied for which the Corine categories were aggregated. Subsequently, there were field verification surveys carried out between March and June of 2021. Most significant changes?due to the significant increase of built-up areas?were found in the case of the towns that were developed to form the suburbs of Debrecen, the core settlement of their region with a population of 200,000. In the case of settlements further away from the major city, the population is either stagnating or decreasing, and the size of built-up areas hardly increases. In the case of cities that are surrounded by high-quality chernozem soils with profitable agriculture, large-scale arable lands have become dominant in the border zones of the settlements, as the spatial extent of gardens, orchards and grasslands has decreased. Highly diverse and mosaic land use (dominated by small plots) is not characteristic anywhere.

Megjegyzések:An essential part of the health system is the ambulance service, whose main task is to provide patients with high quality care. In the spirit of the above, the aim of the study is to explore the spatial characteristics of the ambulance service in a Hungarian territorial unit, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county. The main findings of the study are: - The geographical location of ambulance stations in the county is strongly influenced by geography and demographic characteristics. - The designation of the coverage areas of ambulance station is fundamentally consistent with the access time to the respective ambulance stations. - The accessibility of each settlement from the ambulance station and the time needed to travel the ambulance station - location - hospital route differ for the speed allowed by the Highway Code and for the speed of 60 km/h

Megjegyzések:Soil salinization is one of the main threats to soils worldwide, which has serious impacts on soil functions. Our objective was to map and assess salt-affectedness on arable land (0.85 km2) in Hungary, with high spatial resolution, using a combination of ensemble machine learning and multivariate geostatistics on three salt-affected soil indicators (i.e., alkalinity, electrical conductivity, and sodium adsorption ratio (n = 85 soil samples)). Ensemble modelling with five base learners (i.e., random forest, extreme gradient boosting, support vector machine, neural network, and generalized linear model) was carried out and the results showed that ensemble modelling outperformed the base learners for alkalinity and sodium adsorption ratio with R2 values of 0.43 and 0.96, respectively, while only the random forest prediction was acceptable for electrical conductivity. Multivariate geostatistics was conducted on the stochastic residuals derived from machine learning modelling, as we could reasonably assume that there is spatial interdependence between the selected salt-affected soil indicators. We used 10-fold cross-validation to check the performance of the spatial predictions and uncertainty quantifications, which provided acceptable results for each selected salt-affected soil indicator (for pH value, electrical conductivity, and sodium adsorption ratio, the root mean square error values were 0.11, 0.86, and 0.22, respectively). Our results showed that the methodology applied in this study is efficient in mapping and assessing salt-affectedness on arable lands with high spatial resolution. A probability map for sodium adsorption ratio represents sodic soils exceeding a threshold value of 13, where they are more likely to have soil structure deterioration and water infiltration problems. This map can help the land user to select the appropriate agrotechnical operation for improving soil quality and yield.

Cím:Multi-aspect overview of mineral-water-based therapies of musculoskeletal disorders in Hungary / Hojcska Ágnes Erzsébet, Szabó Zoltán, Bujdosó Zoltán
Dátum:2022
ISSN:2416-2140
Megjegyzések:Demographic transformation, characterized by the aging of the population, is causing an increasing problem in developed countries. This change involves a significant increase in the number of chronic diseases, the health damage generated by which causes loss of life years due to deteriorating health and impairs quality of life. Among chronic diseases, the increasing frequency of musculoskeletal disorders has become characteristic of an aging society, which causes the greatest loss of life years in Hungary due to limitations. These problems mean increasing social, economic, and administrative pressure on the population and pose solution challenges for the spa town leaders and health decision-makers. There are several therapies available in the medical and health sciences to prevent and treat musculoskeletal disorders, with increasing emphasis on conservative therapies as the role of health increases. In Hungary, among these procedures, medicinal water treatment services based on natural healing factors available in spa towns play a key role, which is also the basis of medical tourism and part of the health care system. To solve the problems caused by musculoskeletal disorders, it is essential to know the occurrence of the disease and the treatment-use attitude of the patients, mainly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the main goal of our research is to assist spa towns leaders and health decision-makers in the implementation of medical tourism developments and more optimal patient care. One of the part-aims of our research is to reveal the regional differences of the most common musculoskeletal diseases in Hungary based on secondary data. Our other research-part objective is to determine the impact of socio-demographic characteristics, health status, type of musculoskeletal disease, pain, and commitment to bath medicine care system on the future use of medicinal water treatment in patients with musculoskeletal disorders. Based on our results, we declare that the health status of the Hungarian population in terms of the most frequently occurring locomotor diseases is worst in Central Hungary, the greater part of the Southern Great Plain, and the northeastern part of the country. In terms of territory, we concluded that the incidence of musculoskeletal disorders is relatively low, and moderate inequality in Hungary. It also follows from our results that the indicators measuring regional differences selected can be successfully applied to examine the territorial inequalities of musculoskeletal diseases concerning medical tourism. We also found that the respondents' level of family income, place of residence by region, state of health, the degree of commitment to medicinal water treatment/service was found, furthermore the cost of treatment, and the cost of accommodation /travel, significantly affect the planned use of the medicinal water treatment in the future. Our results promote the implementation of more targeted medical tourism and health industry developments in spa towns.

Dátum:2022
ISSN:2071-1050
Megjegyzések:This article discusses one of the most important social factors of climate protection: climate concern. Most research in this area focuses on North America and Western Europe or presents international comparative statistics. Our work is innovative because we have designated a lesser-known post-socialist region in East-Central Europe as a sample area, and we intend to conduct in-depth analyses at the municipal level. Our study describes the second largest city in Hungary, Debrecen, and its agglomeration. Based on a questionnaire survey in 2020 (N = 512), we examined opinion factors, and we have presented features consistent with or different from the findings in the relevant literature. In the statistical analysis, chi-square tests and binary logistic regressions were applied to reveal significant differences between the responses of different types of respondents. As response variables, we used the questions about general concerns regarding air pollution, knowledge about climate change, beliefs about tackling, perceived threat, behavioural responses, personal actions, and demography. We found that the concern about air pollution and a feeling of threat to respondents' life was mainly affected by the degree of climate concern. We conclude that the knowledge of local communities on climate change has increased, and risk perception has improved. Still, there is no clear relationship between the level of concern and climate-conscious behaviour. The findings provide ideas for promoting local climate management and awareness-raising in the European Union or other countries.

Cím:Significance of tourism economic vulnerability research / Tianyi Li ; Bujdosó Zoltán
Dátum:2022
Megjegyzések:Consumption, investment, and net exports are three important factors driving regional economic growth. Judging from the long-term development history of tourism, the industry has made significant contributions to the comprehensive functions of driving direct consumption and inducing indirect consumption, improving investment efficiency and broadening investment channels, earning foreign exchange income, and balancing trade balances, that gradually form a catalyst to drive regional economic growth. However, while the region is making every effort to develop tourism, it ignores or even inhibits the development of other industries, forming the phenomenon of tourism as a single pillar industry, and tourism specialization has become increasingly prominent since the over-economy. The prominence of tourism specialization will lead to an increase in the vulnerability risk of the local regional economy. Once it encounters the influence of uncontrollable factors in the external environment, such as global epidemics, wars, etc., the negative impact on the regional economy will be devastating. Therefore, evaluating the impact of tourism development on economic growth from the perspective of vulnerability, and putting forward corresponding control measures, is an important supplement to the research on the negative economic impact of tourism, and also enriches the theoretical research system on the tourism economic. This research starts from three basic questions: (1) How to define specialized tourism cities and economic vulnerability, and how does tourism specialization lead to economic vulnerability? (2) How to evaluate the economic vulnerability of tourism specialization areas? What are its influencing factors? (3) How to regulate the economic vulnerability of specialized tourist cities to avoid risks? In terms of research methods, qualitative research methods and quantitative research methods were combined used. This study re-examines and discusses the economic effects of tourism industry from the perspective of regional economic development, and analyzes the initial conditions for the sustainable economic development of tourism destinations.

The FDI-based economic development policies in East-Central Europe and the strategies of transnational firms seeking cost-efficient production locations close to the main markets of the EU have led during the last decades to the integration of the region into diaerent global/regional production networks, mainly in the form of locations for industrial production. While the intensity of re-industrialization largely determines economic growth and spatial socioeconomic inequalities outside metropolitan regions, the long-term success of this model, which tends to result in a dual economy, dependent development, and the 'middle-income trap', has been challenged. According to the GPN literature, which comprises the main theoretical basis of our research, the means of integration is the key to understanding the potential outcomes of this economic model. The process seems to depend on the quality of global-local interactions based on enterprise strategies and multi-level regional assets and agency. Our article focuses on making a comparative analysis of two transnational companies in a small peripheral town and uses the concept of strategic coupling as the analytical framework for the interpretation of the global-local interactions and their developmental outcomes. Based on secondary and primary sources, we examine the key assets and actors in the local environment, follow the development (upgrading trajectories) of subsidiaries, and analyse the dimensions and depth of their local/regional socioeconomic integration. We contribute to the special issue`s main objectives through our case study that reveals strategic coupling dynamics and quality and discusses the chance of more advantageous developmental outcomes in a peripheral location with limited and diminishing local (human) assets.
