Megjegyzések:Background/Aim: Since acute myeloid leukemias still represent the most aggressive type of adult acute leukemias, the profound understanding of disease pathology is of paramount importance for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Hence, this study aimed to explore the real-time disease fate with the establishment of an experimental myelomonoblastic leukemia (My1/De) rat model using preclinical positron emission tomography (PET) and whole-body autoradiography. Materials and Methods: In vitro [18F]F-FDG uptake studies were performed to compare the tracer accumulation in the newly cultured My1/De tumor cell line (blasts) with that in healthy control and My1/De bone marrow suspensions. Post transplantation of My1/De cells under the left renal capsule of Long-Evans rats, primary My1/De tumorigenesis, and metastatic propagation were investigated using [18F]F-FDG PET imaging, whole-body autoradiography and phosphorimage analyses. To assess the organ uptake profile of the tumor-carrying animals we accomplished ex vivo biodistribution studies. Results: The tracer accumulation in the My1/De culture cells exceeded that of both the tumorous and the healthy bone marrow suspensions (p<0.01). Based on in vivo imaging, the subrenally transplanted My1/De cells resulted in the development of leukemia in the abdominal organs, and metastasized to the mesenterial and thoracic parathymic lymph nodes (PTLNs). The lymphatic spread of metastasis was further confirmed by the significantly higher %ID/g values of the metastatic PTLNs (4.25?0.28) compared to the control (0.94?0.34). Cytochemical staining of the peripheral blood, autopsy findings, and wright-Giemsa-stained post-mortem histological sections proved the leukemic involvement of the assessed tissues/organs. Conclusion: The currently established My1/De model appears to be well-suited for further leukemia-related therapeutic and diagnostic investigations.

Megjegyzések:A stalagmite was collected in northern Hungary from the Vacska Cave, where monitoring and ventilation-based site selection had been conducted. The stalagmite covers the 10-8 ka (relative to AD 1950) period, including the so-called 8.2 ka event, and showed preceding signs of climate change that were evaluated by petrographic observations, C-14 activities, Sr concentrations, and stable isotope compositions of calcite and inclusion-hosted water. Comparisons of speleothem records show that isotope peaks at ca. 8.5 ka are related to a regional climate anomaly, rather than to a continental-scale event. In accordance with regional proxy records, the 8.2 ka event was associated with a series of temperature and precipitation amount changes, starting with cooling and a reduction in the winter-to-summer precipitation ratio, and then becoming a humid and warm phase at 8.15 ka. X-ray diffraction-based crystallinity parameter (FWHM) values provided evidence for diagenetic alteration of the stable oxygen isotope compositions of inclusion waters. Nevertheless, the stable hydrogen isotope compositions of inclusion waters and the oxygen isotope values of the host calcite revealed elevated d-excess values, and therefore increased Mediterranean moisture contribution during the 8.2 ka event, which indirectly indicate the southward displacement of moisture transport from the Atlantic Ocean.

Megjegyzések:Si-Ge-Au amorphous-nanocrystalline composites are important thermoelectric materials where the Seebeck coefficient and the electrical conductivity may be tuned independently. There are many attempts to improve the thermoelectric properties of Si/Ge systems by the addition of additives like Au. However, the effectiveness of doping and the role of Au is not clear. We report on structural transformations and Au segregation behaviour in post-annealed sputter deposited multilayer thin films using composition depth profiling, electron microscopy, xray diffraction and computer simulation. We show that depending on the nominal thickness of the initial Au layers the film volume becomes depleted of Au for thinner Au layers while for thicker Au layers the Au content is much higher in the form of large precipitates. Due to the self-organization and changing of microstructure during deposition the segregation of Au is very different for different Au individual layer thicknesses. In case of thinner Au layers it is enriched at the free surface, while for thicker initial Au layer thickness gold accumulated at the substrate. We have carried out computer simulations based on stochastic kinetic mean-field model. These calculations support the argument that initial Au island size can drastically affect the dissolution/growth and segregation behaviour of gold which can significantly influence the thermoelectric parameters. Based on these results we provide a possible explanation to the difference in thermoelectric properties found in the literature.

Megjegyzések:The worldwide restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic induced a radical change in urban air quality. The objective of this work was to study and understand the variation of PMcoarse and PM2.5 pollution besides other air quality (AQ) parameters in the city of Debrecen, Hungary from 2018 to 2022. To achieve this goal, we introduced an integrated approach that combines source apportionment by receptor modelling, trajectory-based statistical methods and takes into account local and regional meteorology. Concentration, elemental composition, and sources of atmospheric particulate matter (APM) were determined for four lockdown periods with varying levels of restrictions, two transition intervals and two relaxation periods in 2020-22, and they were compared to corresponding baseline values from 2018-19. The concentration, composition and sources of PM2.5, PMcoarse showed strong seasonality. The main component of PMcoarse was mineral dust (32%), while BC (15%), sulphate aerosols (19%) and mineral dust (13%) were the major constituents of PM2.5. Source apportionment by Positive Matrix Factorization identified 8 sources on both size fractions: two types of soil, traffic, combustions, biomass burning, biogenic emission, sea salt, construction, roadworks, secondary sulphate. The relative contribution of sources did not change during the pandemic compared to the previous two years. However, considering the whole 2-year-long period affected by restrictions, a 20-25% reduction was detected in the concentrations and source contributions, apart from temporary sources like roadworks or sea salt episodes. The changed habits of the population could be traced in the evolution of APM. Before the pandemic, increased concentration of traffic related pollutants was characteristic of the school year, while in 2020-21 it was more typical in the summers, the relaxation periods. On the other hand, staying at home during lockdowns led to a significant increase in biomass burning from domestic heating in spring 2020 and 2021. By studying the individual lockdown and relaxation periods, we have shown that the evolution of APM pollution in relatively short, 2-3-month intervals was significantly influenced by local and regional meteorological parameters, the origin of air masses, desert dust episodes and periodic construction works.

Megjegyzések:We report on the construction and investigation of Li-air batteries consisting of a charcoal cathode and cotton texture soaked withdifferent organic solvents containing a lithium triflate (LiOTf) electrolyte. Charcoal was found to be an appropriate cathode forLi-air batteries. Furthermore, cycling tests showed stable operation at over 800 cycles when dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) anddiethylene glycol dimethyl ether (DEGME) were used as solvents, whereas low electrochemical stability was observed whenpropylene carbonate was used. The charging, discharging, and long-term discharging steps were mathematically modeled.Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy showed Gerischer impedance, suggesting intensive oxygen transport at the surface of thecharcoal cathode. Diffusion, charge transfer, and solid electrolyte interphase processes were identified using distribution ofrelaxation time analysis. In the polypropylene (PP) membrane soaked with LiOTf in DEGME, three different states of Li ions wereidentified by7Li-triple-quantum time proportional phase increment nuclear magnetic resonance measurements. On the basis of thelatter results, a mechanism was suggested for Li-ion transport inside the PP membrane. The activity of the charcoal cathode wasconfirmed by Raman and cyclic voltammetry measurements.

Megjegyzések:The sensitivity and optical properties of silver nanoprisms (triangular plateswith round-truncated corners) are investigated in this paper. Results ofboundary element method simulations are compared with experimentalresults and literature data. Based on electron microscopy images of thesynthesized nanoprisms, a single-particle model is set up for simulations withthree running parameters: edge length, thickness, and roundness (defined asthe radius of the circumscribed circle divided by the edge length). Thesegeometric parameters can be optimized during chemical synthesis to createsensors with improved sensitivity. The effect of biomolecular layers is alsoinvestigated. As a novel approach to improve the agreement between thesimulated and experimentally measured extinction spectra, the single-particlemodel is extended to consider the variation of the prisms' parameters in theform of distributions. The resulting extinction cross-section spectracorrespond well with the experimental data. The calculated bulk refractiveindex sensitivity is 670 nm/RIU (RIU stands for refractive index unit) for thesingle particle model (length=150 nm, thickness=10 nm, and roundness=0.1), while (690?5) nm/RIU for the extended model. The presented modeland obtained relations between sensitivity and geometry can be effectivelyused to design and optimize the fabrication technologies for silvernanoprism-based sensing applications.

Megjegyzések:Based on computer simulations of a realistic discrete element model we demonstrate that shrinkage induced cracking of thin layers of heterogeneous materials, generating spectacular crack patterns, proceeds in bursts. These crackling pulses are characterized by scale free distributions of size and duration, however, with non-universal exponents depending on the system size and shrinking rate. On the contrary, local avalanches composed of micro-cracking events with temporal and spatial correlation are found to obey a universal power law statistics. Most notably, we demonstrate that the observed non-universality of the integrated signal is the consequence of the temporal superposition of the underlying local avalanches, which pop up in an uncorrelated way in homogeneous systems. Our results provide an explanation of recent acoustic emission measurements on drying induced shrinkage cracking and may have relevance for the acoustic monitoring of the electro-mechanical degradation of battery electrodes.

Dátum:2024
ISSN:2405-8440
Megjegyzések:Atomic migration of silicon through grain boundaries of a thin polycrystalline Cu film and island formation on the Cu surface were studied in the temperature range of 403?520 K. Samples used in these experiments was prepared on Si(111) wafers by room temperature magnetron sputtering and they consisted of amorphous Si layer (80 nm) and polycrystalline Cu layer (40 nm). The silicon layer served as the source layer of diffusion, while the copper surface was the accumulation surface. Detection of Si atoms on the accumulation surface after penetration through the Cu layer was made by low energy ion scattering spectroscopy and the grain boundary diffusion coefficient DGB was determined from the appearance time. The depth distribution of Si in the Cu film was analysed by secondary neutral mass spectroscopy. From this depth distribution, DGB was also determined. By scanning probe microscope and electron microscope measurements, it was experimentally detected that Si atoms on the Cu surface did not form a continuous layer. Instead, amorphous Si islands were formed at the accumulation surface with surface protrusions in their centres.

Dátum:2024
ISSN:0375-9474
Megjegyzések:The ^7Li(p,n)^7Be reaction is widely used as neutron source for neutron induced reaction cross section measurements, and for ^7Be radioactive source production. There are two prominent structures in the excitation function, a narrow resonance between E_p = 2.2 - 2.3 MeV, and a broad peak, around E_p = 5 MeV. There are tension between the experimental data sets both in the position and the width of this latter structure, as well as in the absolute scale of the data. In the present work the ^7Li(p,n)^7Be reaction is investigated using the activation technique, with the aim of providing comprehensive cross section data covering the second structure and connecting prior literature data sets. The irradiations were performed with the Atomki cyclotron accelerator with pairs of thin foil targets, thus with precisely controlled reaction energy in the range of E_p = 3.5 - 13 MeV. After the irradiations the activity of the samples was measured using a highpurity germanium detector. The energy uncertainty of the new data points is much smaller than in any of the previous works, while the cross section uncertainty is comparable with the most precise literature data. A consistent data set was obtained connecting the most recent and most precise literature data sets. With the new data the absolute magnitude of the ^7Li(p,n)^7Be reaction cross section is constrained and became more precise.

Megjegyzések:It has been known that electronic conical intersections in a molecular system can also be created by laser light even in diatomics. The direct consequence of these light-induced degeneracies is the appearance of a strong mixing between the electronic and vibrational motions, which has a strong fingerprint on the ultrafast nuclear dynamics. In the present work, pump and probe numerical simulations are performed with the NaH molecule involving the first three singlet electronic states (X1 sigma+(X), A1 sigma+(A) and B1 pi(B)) and several light-induced degeneracies in the numerical description. To demonstrate the impact of the multiple light-induced non-adiabatic effects together with the molecular rotation on the dynamical properties of the molecule, the dissociation probabilities, kinetic energy release spectra (KER) and the angular distributions of the photofragments were calculated by discussing the role of the permanent dipole moment as well.
