Translocation 8;21 associated with acute nonlymphocytic leukemia in a down syndrome child / Balogh E., Oláh É., Hunyadi K.
Dátum:
1994
Megjegyzések:
A boy with Down syndrome who developed acute nonlymphocytic leukemia (ANLL/M2) at the age of 40 months is presented. Chromosomal analysis of cultured peripheral blood cells without mitogen revealed a constitutional abnormality, trisomy 21, associated with the acquired chromosome change t(8;21)(q22;q22).

Jumping translocation of chromosome 1q associated with good clinical outcome in a case of Burkitt leukemia / Bessenyei Beáta, Ujfalusi Anikó, Balogh Erzsébet, Oláh Éva, Szegedi István, Kiss Csongor
Dátum:

ISSN:

Megjegyzések:
Acquired jumping translocations (JTs) are rare secondary aberrations occurring in various hematological malignancies. In Burkitt lymphoma/leukemia (BL) chromosome 1q abnormalities such as partial or whole arm duplications/translocations are frequently associated with the disease-specific t(8;14)(q24;q32). JTs of 1q are considered to have a bad prognostic impact in BL. We report clinical, conventional and molecular cytogenetic findings of a 12-year-old boy who presented with BL. In addition to the primary aberration, t(8;14)(q24;q32), JT of 1q onto chromosomes 21 and der(14) as well as the formation of isochromosome 1q could be detected in his bone marrow sample. Despite the expected poor prognostic outcome of these aberrations, the patient has been experiencing an event free survival of 7.5 years at the time of the present report, reflecting the excellent clinical outcome of the disease.

Cytogenetic analyses of three papillary carcinomas and a follicular adenoma of the thyroid / Oláh É., Balogh E., Boján F., Juhász F., Stenszky V., Farid N. R.
Dátum:
1990
Megjegyzések:
Cytogenetic data of three papillary carcinomas and a follicular adenoma using direct preparations or cell cultures or both after 7 to 60 days in vitro are presented. Although karyotype of the follicular adenoma proved completely normal, in each of the three papillary carcinomas a modal chromosome number in the diploid range and a deleted 11q were observed. In case 1 the del(11)(q23) was associated with rearrangement of chromosome 1 and other marker chromosomes. Our results suggest that 11q deletion may be specific for papillary carcinoma of the thyroid.

Abnormalities of chromosome-1 in relation to human malignant diseases / Oláh É., Balogh E., Kovács I., Kiss A.
Dátum:
1989
Megjegyzések:
Chromosome 1 is known to often be involved in various malignant diseases. Its numerical and structural aberrations have been observed in chronic and acute leukemias and solid tumors as well. Recently five protooncogenes have been assigned to the long and short arms of chromosome 1. The frequent and nonspecific occurrence of chromosome 1 rearrangements in human tumors suggests that they play an important role in the pathogenesis and progression of these diseases. The frequency, types, and time of the occurrence of chromosome 1 aberrations and their relation to the stage of the disease were studied in 317 patients with various malignant diseases. In ten patients nonrandom aberrations of chromosome 1 were observed. Two patients had CML, two PRV followed by ANLL, and the remaining six patients suffered from ANLL, ALL, Burkitt lymphoma, MF, SMMoL, and IRSA, respectively. In six patients, total or partial trisomy of the long arm or of the whole chromosome 1 was present, and in three cases balanced translocations involving chromosome 1 could be found. In the cells of one patient a duplication of the centromeric heterochromatin was seen. We analyzed the breakpoints involved. Finally, the aberrations of chromosome 1 were almost always be observed at the terminal stage of the diseases.
