Megjegyzések:The conception of the so called "geotop's day" (Tag des Geotops) origins from Germany [7, 8], and bases on the fascination of visiting geological objects in the nature. The aim of these programs is to focus public attention on the importance of maintaining valuable geosites, and link already existing earth scientific knowledge to real elements of a landscape, and inspire to learn more about them. First "geotop's day" was held in Hungary 2008 and since them it is organized in every year on some localities. The organizer (ProGEO Hungary) refers about former results and considers the possible locations and co-organizers of this initiative.

Dátum:2021

Megjegyzések:This paper introduce a historical geographical study on the process of land cover transformation in the Bükk Region, which can be regarded as a two-faced area concerning its anthropogenic disturbance. Based on historic mapping that began as early as the late 18th century, a database was produced, and the data was interpreted in the context of economic and social processes that took place in the area. Results could be presented in maps using the so-called Anthropogenic Disturbance Index (ADI). These maps demonstrate the peculiar land use pattern in the Bükk Region, namely co-habitation of the significantly transformed margins and the natural or quasi-natural central part. Between them, there are linear areas of intermediate disturbance. These areas, however, due to the foundation and activity of the Bükk National Park and modification of their economic value after the change of the political system, have not increased during the last several decades; rather a re-naturalization of the landscape is aimed.

Megjegyzések:Within the integrated network of protected geosites in nature conservation areas, nature trails have been established in Hungary since 1990. These trails play a major role in the organization of field-based geo-education activities. The Hungarian Geotope Day was established in the study area in 2009, based on the model of the German Geotope Day (Cserépfalu village, Bükk Region Geopark) where spectacular geological and geomorphological sites are included along the Devil's Tower Nature Trail. Field-based activities were organized through geology-themed hiking ("geohiking") to expose geodiversity to the public. The number of the geotourists reached 1000 persons last year, but there was no detailed investigation about their motivation and segmentation. This preliminary work tries to explore the attitudes of the hiking geotourists with a questionnaire. The survey was conducted between 2016 and 2019. Questions ranged from basic social data through tourism motivation and some further development-related questions. Now, Geotope Day is nationwide and the number of locations exceeds 20 geosites. These results represent an important source of information for planning these outdoor educational activities.

Megjegyzések:Using historical geographic and landscape ecological methods three North Hungarian landscape units that underwent different types of anthropic impact were studied. Viticulture in the Nagy Hill of Tokaj was founded more than eight centuries ago, however, due to economic crises and the phylloxera epidemic extension of the vineyards has fallen to less than one-half during 250 years; wetlands and grassland of the Taktaköz were changed by arable lands after river regulation and flood prevention performed in the second half of the 19th century; and traditional land use/land cover pattern of the East Borsod Coal Basin has been transformed by coal mining and industrialization from the end of the 19th century. On the basis of study on transformation of land use/land cover patterns, consequences concerning landscape planning of the studied areas can be drawn. (1) Vineyards of the Nagy Hill of Tokaj have represented a traditional land use category in the area for many centuries; therefore, re-plantation of the abandoned vineyards would be the reasonable purpose. (2) In the Taktaköz arable lands have become dominant land use elements. Although the recent land use pattern can be regarded as traditional, the ancient wetlands and grasslands could be, at least partly, restored by significant landscaping work. (3) In the East Borsod Coal Basin the extension of forest has spontaneously increased after the closure of coal mines, therefore, the pre-mining landscape pattern could be more-or-less restored without considerable landscape transforming action.

Megjegyzések:The profile expansion of our programme has been successful. 10 percent of the hikers participated in the guided tour organised as the "geotop's day" for the first time and half of the hikers visited some of its field attraction. By professional experience, we can say that tourist notoriety of a destination grows by media appearances and the reports about the successful event extend the range of guests (Lee et al. 2005 in: Kozma G. 2007). During last decade the "Nándor Less" Memorial Hiking Race appeared in the state-wide media. This publicity partly contributes to the fact that visitors arrive from all over the country to see the geo-touristic attractions of the village, as we are informed through face to face interviews. At the same time participants of the hiking influenced by positive experience often come back as individual visitors to discover the attractions they have seen on "geotop's day".

Megjegyzések:The movable geoheritage elements (minerals, fossils, rocks) are important part of geodiversity. Their anthropic vulnerability includes collection by geo-amateurs and professionals which has become a very popular activity in the last decades. The in situ protection of such geoheritage elements preserves their authenticity and integrity, but needs detailed inventory and assessment providing recommendation for geoconservation. The aim of this study is to investigate a medieval mining site of the Carpathians (Telkibánya, Hungary) where recent anthropic vulnerability related to mineral collecting. Earlier works emphasized the scientific, aesthetic, and geo-educational potential of the mineral association and mining heritage of the study area. Our field survey gives a review of medieval mining works and the current state of the surviving infrastructure identifies the major areas of mineral collecting disturbances and the integrity of the main and additional geological elements. Based on the degradation risk assessment, further conservation management initiatives are proposed by open collecting outcrops (exposure sites) and declared protection with controlled collecting (finite sites).

Megjegyzések:Cultural landscapes were developed as a result of continuous interaction between nature and human culture. During their evolution, the geodiversity was also considerably influenced by human activities. Recently, geoheritage studies have become more sensitive towards man-made cultural landmarks. In this paper, we explore a methodology to compile a regional inventory for a historic mountainous cultural landscape with remarkable geological, volcanological, and mining heritage in Tokaj Mts, (NE Hungary). The databases of the natural and cultural heritage contribute to the extension of regional inventories with a large number of geodiversity-related records. The specific selection procedure with a combination of GIS and fieldwork assessment resulted in the final list of potential sites. The applied three stage classification forms a basis for territorial analysis. The selected 60 geosites of 700 km2 represents well the geological history of the study area, while another 160 geodiversity and geocultural sites emphasize further enhancement of natural and cultural diversity. The functional classification referring to the physical nature of the sites was useful to define specific conservation management priorities. The thematic grouping of the sites defined new interpretation possibilities for geotourism and geoeducation taking into account volcanological, geomorphological, and mining heritage values

Megjegyzések:The concept of geodiversity involving abiotic elements of the environment arose as a scientific topic in the last decadeof the 20thcentury. The increasing number of geological exhibition sites and the public interest in the two domesticUNESCO Global Geoparks in Hungary (Novohrad-Nógrád, Bakony-Balaton) indicated that geodiversity-based geo -tourism had become a development tool for disadvantaged peripheral regions. Such developments require multi-facetedprofessional inventory and assessment of the elements of geodiversity. Similar requirements are also necessary withrespect to geoconservation and the evaluation of vulnerability risks. The basic unit of the geodiversity register is thegeosite. This may include outcrops or man-made excavations, (abandoned) mines or other anthropogenic objects; themain point is that their identification is connected to the developing geological and geomorphological processes (e.g.geosites with volcanic or karstic features). Based on the above, this study provides an overview of the development in geosite assessment and evaluation work, with special emphasis on the recently published details concerning two quantitative methods. This methodological basiswas used to assess the well-known ? albeit less representative ? geosites of the domestic geological heritage. Thescientific-educational, scenic?aesthetic potential and protection?degradation risk scores were determined discretely for60 geosites. A particular focus was centred on the different nature conservation conditions (national park, landscapeprotection area, protected natural area, ex lege etc.), as well as on the development of the geo-touristic infrastructure(visitor centres, exhibition sites, nature trails). All this took place within the framework of the evaluation of additionalinterpretative and geo-touristic potential scores. The authors were actively involved in the establishment of a specialHungarian Geosite Day, with the specific aim of promoting the public dissemination of the geosciences.
