Megjegyzések:Terroir refers to the geographical origin of wines. The landscape factors (topography, parent rock, soil, microbial life, climate, natural vegetation) are coupled with cultural factors (cultivation history and technology, cultivars and rootstock) and all together define a terroir. The physical factors can be well visualized by a slope profile developed into a pedosequence showing the regular configuration of the relevant physical factors for a wine district. In the present study the generalized topographic pedosequence (or catena) and GIS spatial model of the Villány Hills, a historical wine producing region, serves for the spatial representation and characterization of terroir types. A survey of properties of Cabernet Franc grape juice allowed the comparison of 10 vineyards in the Villány Wine District, Southwest Hungary. Five grape juice properties (FAN, NH3, YAN, density and glucose + fructose content) have been found to have a moderate linear relationship (0.5 < r2< 0.7) with the Huglin Index (HI) and aspect. Aspect, when determined on the basis of angular distance from South (180?), showed a strong correlation (r2 > 0.7) with FAN, NH3, YAN, sugar and density and moderate correlation with primary amino nitrogen (PAN). HI showed a correlation with three nitrogen related parameters FAN, NH3, YAN, density and glucose + fructose content. Elevation and slope, however, did not correlate with any of the chemical properties.

Cím:Suitability of World Reference Base for Soil Resources (WRB) to describe and classify chernozemic soils in Central Europe / Cezary Kabala, Przemyslaw Charzyñski, Szabolcs Czigány, Tibor J. Novák, Martin Saksa, Marcin Switoniak
Dátum:2019
ISSN:2300-4975
Megjegyzések:Chernozemic soils are distinguished based on the presence of thick, black or very dark, rich in humus, well-structural and base-saturated topsoil horizon, and the accumulation of secondary carbonates within soil profile. In Central Europe these soils occur in variable forms, respectively to climate gradients, position in the landscape, moisture regime, land use, and erosion/ accumulation intensity. "Typical" chernozems, correlated with Calcic or Haplic Chernozems, are similarly positioned at basic classification level in the national soil classifications in Poland, Slovakia and Hungary, and in WRB. Chernozemic soils at various stages of their transformation are placed in Chernozems, Phaeozems or Kastanozems, supplied with respective qualifiers, e.g. Cambic, Luvic, Salic/Protosalic, Sodic/Protosodic etc. Some primeval Chernozems thinned by erosion may still fulfil criteria of Chernozems, but commonly are shifted to Calcisols. Soils upbuilt (aggraded) with colluvial additions may also retain their original placement in Chernozems, getting supplementary qualifier Colluvic. "Hydromorphic" chernozemic soils, in many CE systems are placed as separate soil type ("czarne ziemie" or "ℓeiernice") at the same level with "typical" chernozems. Classification of these soils in WRB depends on the presence of chernic horizon, depth of secondary carbonate accumulation and depth of gleyic/stagnic properties, and may vary from Gleyic/Stagnic Chernozems/Phaeozems to Mollic Gleysols/Stagnosols. Although WRB classification differs from national classifications in the concepts and priorities of classification, it provides large opportunity to reflect the spatial variability and various stages of transformation/degradation of chernozemic soils in Central Europe.

Megjegyzések:Soil classification is a difficult issue and requires many years of study under the guidance of experienced teachers. In the course of long-term studies and field research, soil scientists acquire the skills of recognizing and correctly naming many important features resulting from litho-, anthropo- or pedogenic processes. The problem with learning the secrets of this art is the lack of opportunity to see many examples of different soil features hidden beneath the earth's surface. Visiting many regions of the world for didactic or scientific purposes, we felt the need to share our photographic collections with other people involved in the study and interpretation of the soil environment. It is with great pleasure that we present to the reader a set of several hundred photographs showing the features, properties, soil horizons, as well as examples of interpretation of soil profiles - in accordance with the rules and nomenclature adopted in the international soil naming and classification system ? the World Reference Base for Soil Resources (2022). The book has been divided into several chapters. The photos have been arranged in such a way as to reflect the process of creating a description of the soil profile from environmental features, through morphological soil features, diagnostic horizons, properties and materials, to specific examples of soil profile classification. In the section with soil profiles, we managed to collect 100 examples from all Reference Soil Groups found in all climatic zones of our planet. In the names of the soils, we have mainly emphasised those features (qualifiers) that are morphologically identifiable in the photos, consciously omitting those that can only be read from the results of laboratory analyses. We hope that the handbook, developed as one of outcomes of an Erasmus+ project Share Your Soils (SYStem), will be useful in didactic and scientific work and will help to understand what the individual soil characteristics look like, in general and in the context of the nomenclature used in the World Reference Base for Soil Resources.

Megjegyzések:As a means of assisting the selection of promising soil classification systems, a set of criteria were presented and tested. Inside the studied slightly saline plot World Reference Base (WRB) and Hungarian soil classification (HU) were compared at all four levels in terms of class separability, correlation to biomass, parsimony and homogeneity of classes. WRB surpassed HU in terms of the very important homogeneity of classes only, but HU performed better in terms of class separability, correlation to biomass and parsimony of classes. With many possible classification units WRB categorized the soil into a large number of classes, but 67% and 78% of them were single-profile classes at levels 3 and 4, respectively inside the ca 0.9 km2 area.

Cím:Practical evaluation of four classification levels of Soil Taxonomy, Hungarian classification and WRB in terms of biomass production in a salt-affected alluvial plot / Tóth Tibor, Gallai Bence, Novák Tibor, Czigány Szabolcs, Makó András, Kocsis Mihály, Árvai Mátyás, Mészáros János, László Péter, Koós Sándor, Balog Kitti

Megjegyzések:In a salt-affected alluvial plot, increased biomass is associated with increasing elevation and decreasing salt concentration. All four levels of three classification systems, the Soil Taxonomy (ST), the Hungarian classification (HU) and the WRB were evaluated in a 100 m regular grid of 85 profiles for their applicability for biomass estimation (using 10-year average NDVI as proxy) and their correlation with ground elevation. NDVI values reflecting soil formation chronology (from the least to the most developed soils) were found on the first (least detailed) level of the classification systems. By analyzing the aspects of practical applicability, mainly at the detailed levels 3 and 4, HU performed the best in terms of class separability, WRB showed the most homo-geneous classes, HU provided the closest correlation with elevation; while ST operated with the lowest number of classes, and, consequently, had a lower level of homogeneity and weaker correlation with elevation. Both HU and WRB performed well in most aspects, but the latter showed greater homogeneity. WRB had twice as many classes as HU and four times as many compared to ST; thus, their homogeneity increased accordingly. The implementation of a soil classification without profound tests might result in counterproductive classes in terms of class separability, homogeneity of classes, correlation with environmental parameters, and parsimony of classes.
