Cím:Evaluating the Lee-Carter model on Hungarian mortality data / Gábor Petneházi, József Gáll
Dátum:2021
ISSN:0001-6373 1588-2659
Megjegyzések:This article evaluates the popular Lee-Carter model's performance for Hungarian mortality rate forecasting. Hungary passed through a mortality crisis which makes the task particularly difficult. Previous forecasts and model choices are validated, and updated forecasts are produced. We find that the behavior of mortality rates is normalizing, and so the basic Lee-Carter model is becoming applicable.

Cím:Exploring the predictability of range-based volatility estimators using recurrent neural networks / Petneházi Gábor, Gáll József
Dátum:2019
ISSN:1055-615X 2160-0074
Megjegyzések:We investigate the predictability of several range-based stock volatility estimates and compare them with the standard close-to-close estimate, which is most commonly acknowledged as the volatility. The patterns of volatility changes are analysed using long short-term memory recurrent neural networks, which are a state?of-the-art method of sequence learning. We implement the analysis on all current constituents of the Dow Jones Industrial Average index and report averaged evaluation results. We find that the direction of changes in the values of range-based estimates are more predictable than that of the estimate from daily closing values only.
