Megjegyzések:Five winter oat (Avena sativa L.) varieties were set in a small-plot field experiment to examine the abiotic stress considering silicone and sulphur foliar fertilization treatments under temperate and dry climatic conditions in Hungary. Numerous in situ and laboratory measurements were performed to describe the crop's condition at various phenological stages. Drones with multispectral, thermal and LiDAR payloads monitored the field both with high temporal and spatial resolution. A high level of GIS data assimilation was performed in order to handle the different spatial-related parameters in one interface. It is a multi-purpose experiment, and for all of them it is an important criterion whether the study was carried out in a truly homogeneous area. Practically, it means that we ignore the patterns of the crop or the soil. If this is not the case, the various parameters measured should be evaluated accordingly. Hence, our study's main goal here is to reveal the soil and crop heterogeneity level. For this, all the measured parameters are involved in the multi-parameter analysis by which the heterogeneity level of the site can be assessed. Practically, by this, we can answer the main question: is the field suitable to carry out analysis such as abiotic stress studies or yield prediction modelling on it or shall we handle certain parts differently? Based on the example of our experiment we design a workflow by which the heterogeneity level of a small-plot field can be assessed and provide a solution for how to handle it in order not to involve data which may mislead analysis.

Megjegyzések:Remote sensing is an efficient method of monitoring experiments rapidly and by enabling the collection of significantly more detailed data, than using only field measurements, ensuring new possibilities in scientific research. A small plot field experiment was conducted in a randomized block design with winter oat (Avena sativa L.) varieties in Debrecen, Hungary in the 2020/2021 cropping year. Multiple field measurements and aerial surveys were carried out examining the response of oat on Silicon and Sulfur foliar fertilization treatments thereby monitoring their effects on the physiology, production and stress tolerance. Parallel application of in situ (elevation, soil pH, NDVI, SPAD, chlorophyll content) and aerial (NDVI, NDRE) surveys including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) provided a diverse source of data for evaluation. Both the oat varieties (88.9%) and the foliar fertilization treatments (87.5%) were correctly classified and clearly separated with the discriminant analysis based on measured data. The Pearson correlation analysis showed a very strong positive connection (r = 0.895?1.00) between the NDVI values measured using a hand-held system and UAV-installed camera, except the third measurement time, where the correlation was weaker (r = 0.70). Our results indicate that field experiments can be effectively supported by UAVs.

Cím:Hydrological decision-making systems using high-resolution weather radar observations - a case study from Hungary / Zsolt Zoltán Fehér, Erika Budayné-Bódi, Attila Nagy, Tamás Magyar, Tamás János
Dátum:2023
Megjegyzések:According to past observations and long-term forecasts, the Carpathian Basin is distinguished by two precipitation trends. The frequency, length, and severity of periods of precipitation deficit and drought are increasing. Furthermore, as small-scale convective updrafts intensify, heavy thunderstorms become more intense. Both trends pose significant risks from an anthropogenic perspective. The former increases food insecurity due to intensifying droughts, which damages agricultural yields, while the latter mainly increases property damage via heavy hailstorms. The 2022 drought year demonstrated that effective use of available water is the foundation for sustainable growth, which may be supported by well-designed infrastructure investments and smart water management technologies. A rainfall radar system with a high spatial and temporal resolution that contributes to near real-time machine decision-making is one conceivable component of such a complex system. The Furuno WR-2100 precipitation radar, which was deployed on the outskirts of Debrecen in 2020 for benchmarking purposes, is the first component of such an intelligent decision-making system in Hungary. The radar's range comprises both urban and rural areas, allowing it to continually gather high-resolution test data for both urban hydrology and agricultural irrigation system developments.

Dátum:2022
Megjegyzések:Water is a natural resource essential to the survival of populations and to the prosperity of their agricultural, industrial, and therefore economic activities. Despite the fact that the earth is the Blue Planet, it is water that is most lacking to Humanity [Grafton, 2011; Brun, 2012]. The growing population is converging on cities, where soil artificialization and various types of urban development are altering the local water cycle. In a watershed, urbanization can significantly change the natural water cycle. However, today's urban knowledge of the hydrological cycle is limited and there is still a lack of compatible data suitable for the generation of topical information about the urbanized water parameters and its changes at different scales. Furthermore, precise and small-scale urban water balance computations are not widely developed. In this context, the necessity for this research stems from the fact that efficient urban water management requires a comprehensive understanding of anthropogenic impacts on the urban hydrological cycle and the environment. Such effects vary widely in time and space, and must be assessed in relation to local climate, urban growth, cultural and environmental, as well as other socioeconomic aspects.

Megjegyzések:This study investigates how a land cover map is produced using Sentinel 2 satellite images and how the resulting map is integrated with the calculation of hydrological parameters. Due to its capacity to deliver high-resolution spatial data, satellite imagery is increasingly being used for land cover mapping (1). The process involves several stages, including pre-processing of the Sentinel 2 imagery, image classification using machine learning algorithms, and post- processing of the classified image to generate a land cover map. The resulting land cover map is then integrated with hydrological parameters such as precipitation, evapotranspiration, and soil characteristics to calculate various hydrological parameters. Debrecen, north-east Hungary is the study area. This study's method is suitable for usage in other cities. Understanding the relationship between land cover and water availability requires the integration of the land cover map with hydrological parameters (2). The study demonstrates the potential of using remote sensing data for hydrological studies and highlights the importance of integrating various data sources for accurate estimation of hydrological parameters. The results show that the land cover classes have a significant impact on the water balance of urban sites. This study outlines the key steps involved in creating a land cover map using Sentinel 2 satellite imagery and integrating it with hydrological parameters calculation. The application of this strategy supports sustainable water management techniques and offers insightful information about a region's hydrological processes.

Megjegyzések:Between climate change and anthropogenic forcing, pressure on water resources is continually increasing all over the world. The growing population is gathering more and more in cities where the artificialization of soils and urban developments of all kinds are modifying the local water cycle. However, knowledge about the hydrological cycle in urban areas is notwell developed today. Urbanization in a watershed can produce significant changes tothe natural water cycle, mainly because permeable soils have been covered by less permeable surfaces. The consequences of this urbanization can be significant and multiple. The assessment of urban water resources aims to provide a suitable circumstances for planning, conditions for the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of works used for irrigation and sanitation, among other applications. The methodology of the research is based on the data collection, which includes climatic data from June 2021 to June 2022 and the use of Digital elevation model to create a hydrographic network. The second part is landuse data processing to create a land cover map using maximum Likelihood Supervised Classification, by combining different band composites of Landsat 8 images and NDVI to differentiate between vegetative and non-vegetative areas. However, CORINE Land Cover database was utilized to distinguish between continuous and discontinuous urban area in this classification. The final step in the process is to determine the hydrological coefficients by calculating the water cycle parameters (Evapotranspiration Runoff and Infiltration) for each land-use class.Furthermore, establishing a link between land use and hydrological behaviour and conducting a precise calculation of water balance-related coefficients in urban areasusing Urban Atlas 2018.

ISSN:2223-7747
Megjegyzések:A field experiment was carried out in the 2020-2021 growing season, aiming at investigating the abiotic stress tolerance of oat (Avena sativa L.) with silicon and sulphur foliar fertilization treatments and monitoring the effect of treatments on the physiology, production and stress tolerance of winter oat varieties. In the Hungarian national list of varieties, six winter oat varieties were registered in 2020, and all of the registered varieties were sown in a small plot field experiment in Debrecen, Hungary. The drought tolerance of the oat could be tested, because June was very dry in 2021; the rainfall that month totaled 6 mm only despite a 30-year average of 66.5 mm, and the average temperature for the month was 3.2 C higher than the 30-year average. Foliar application of silicon and sulphur fertilizers caused differences in the photosynthesis rate, total conductance to CO2, transpiration, water use efficiency, leaf area, chlorophyll content, carotenoid content, thousand kernel weight (TKW) and yield of winter oat. The application of silicon significantly increased the photosynthesis rate (16.8?149.3%), transpiration (5.4?5.6%), air?leaf temperature difference (16.2?43.2%), chlorophyll (1.0%) and carotenoid (2.5%) content. The yield increased by 10.2% (Si) and 8.0% (Si plus S), and the TKW by 3.3% (Si) and 5.0% (Si plus S), compared to the control plots. The plants in the control plots assimilated less CO2 while transpiring 1 m3 water more than in the Si, S or Si plus S fertilized plots. The effect of the silicon varied from 9.0 to 195.4% in water use efficiency (WUE) in the three development stages (BBCH52, BBCH65 and BBCH77). A lower leaf area index was measured in the foliar fertilized plots; even so, the yield was higher, compared to that from the control plots. Great variation was found in response to the foliar Si and S fertilization among winter oat varieties?in WUE, 2.0?43.1%; in total conductance to CO2, 4.9?37.3%; in leaf area, 1.6?34.1%. Despite the droughty weather of June, the winter oat varieties produced a high yield. The highest yield was in ♭GK Arany' (7015.7 kg ha??1), which was 23.8% more than the lowest yield (♭Mv Kincsem', 5665.6 kg ha-1). In the average of the treatments, the TKW increased from 23.9 to 33.9 g (41.8%). ♭Mv Hópehely' had the highest TKW. Our results provide information about the abiotic stress tolerance of winter oat, which, besides being a good model plant because of its drought resistance, is an important human food and animal feed.

Dátum:2023
ISSN:0168-1699
Megjegyzések:Precision irrigation is becoming more and more important in agricultural crop production due to the limited water resources resulting from the negative effects of climate change. Modeling of irrigation can support decision makers in the maintenance of the quantitative and qualitative parameters of the cultivated crops, while improving the efficiency of water consumption. In the present paper, a 3D hydrodynamic model was created in the HYDRUS environment to support the modeling of the temporal changes and spatial variations in the water balance (WB) of a maize cultivated Hungarian study site, thereby providing inputs for irrigation scheduling and variable rate irrigation for stakeholders. Beside soil physical parameters, crop evapotranspiration (ETc) values were also considered as model inputs for the phenological crop development stages of the maize from the sowing to the harvesting. This period was between the 3rd of May and the 10th of September in 2020 and the 20th of May and 14th of September for the year 2021. The performance of the model for soil moisture conditions were validated by on-field soil moisture measurements. The overall performance (full vegetation period) of the model was good (r2 = 0.88 for 2020 and r2 = 0.91 for 2021), but slightly varied among different phenological stages. Based on the model, the water balance of the investigated area was determined without any irrigation, alongside the cumulative water fluxes (CWF) through the boundaries including the root water uptake (RWU) of the maize as well. The results revealed that the incoming precipitation was not sufficient to supplement the water content in the soil to the optimal soil moisture range, except when the precipitation level is high enough to balance it. It was concluded that the water balance was negative for the investigated time periods without any irrigation. The specific water deficit (WD) values were calculated considering the area of the study site, which is 1439 m3/ha for 2020 and 2068 m3/ha for 2021. From the obtained results, optimal irrigation schedules were presented to keep the soil moisture content in the optimal range (20.92-14.41 V/V%) in the modeled area for two different vegetation periods. It was found that due to the irrigation the crop water productivity (CWP) increased by 6% and 4% in 2020 and 2021. Overall, the model is able to cope with changing circumstances that could help to mitigate the negative effects of climate change with the reasonable use of limited water resources in the future.
