Megjegyzések:It is well known that grafting, as a special plant propagation technique, is forming new plant by joining the scion (an aerial part of a plant) to a rootstock (another root part of a plant). This new plant (grafted plant) is employed to improve plant production, by getting greater plant development, vigor, and defense against abiotic/biotic stresses, as well as improving the uptake of nutrients, and their use efficiency. The grafted vegetable crops are common to overcome many plant diseases like Fusarium wilt. The most well-known grafted vegetables include both solanaceous and cucurbitaceous seedlings mainly in Europe, Asia, and North America. How can improve the efficiency of grafting process? Can the applied nanoparticles improve the quality of fruits and their nutrient content in grafted vegetables? This is a call by the Environment, Biodiversity and Soil Security (EBSS) for submitting new manuscripts for more investigations concerning the role of nanoparticles like nanofertilizers in enhancing the productivity of grafted vegetables mainly under different stresses.

Megjegyzések:Soil and water supply us with the essentials of life, including clean water, healthy edible foods, feed, fiber, shelter, and fuel. Soil also serves as a repository for and soil and water are both central components of human culture. The close interactions between soil, water, plants and humans is very important for human health and well-being. This is a call for the submission of original manuscripts on this nexus that uses photographs to communicate how the nexus functions and its importance to humanity. This approach is based on a more photos, less words paradigm to create narrative photographic studies. More studies are needed that focus on different aspects of the soil-water-plant-human (SWPH)nexus. Any combination of the components of the SWPH nexus that includes the human component (e.g., soil-water-human, soil-plant-human, etc.) is welcome as part of this special section. The ultimate goal of these articles is to add to knowledge of the SWPH nexus in a way that incorporates art and culture into our scientific understanding of some of today's major global challenges.

Megjegyzések:Vegetable crops are main sources for human nutrition because they have high nutritional value including vitamins, and minerals, as well as several bioactive compounds. Producing safe and healthy vegetables for human diet is of a great global issue, which needs to exploit all available arable lands for this production. This production should be achieved under stressful conditions including soil stress (mainly saline, alkaline-saline, waterlogged and low fertile soils), climatic stress (drought, flooding, saltwater intrusion, and heat stress), and along with normal conditions. Nano-biofortification can support the vegetable productivity especially by using the biological nano-nutrients. Bio-nanonutrients have many distinguished properties such as higher biological activity, lower toxicity, and better bioavailability than mineral forms. Bio-nanonutrients also can promote the vegetable growth, productivity and enhance their tolerance to different stresses by reinforcing the function of antioxidant enzymes. Thus, the producing biofortified vegetables under stressful conditions might be a sustainable solution particularly by using the biological nanonutrients like selenium. The controlling factors that are needed for a successful nano-biofortification program of vegetables are correlated with growing media, plant species, and method application of nanonutrients. The over dose of nanonutrients can cause a nanotoxicity for cultivated plants, and then human health after consumption. This problem can be managed by following the 4R Nutrient Stewardship concept, which focuses on the right rate, right source, right time, and right place.

ISSN:2536-9423
Megjegyzések:Soil science is an important discipline, in which all topics related to soil can be studied, including characterization, physical, chemical and biological attributes, genesis, morphology, its fertility and plant nutrition. Soil is the second lung for the humanity after the plant, where the universe cannot survive without both cultivated plants and soil. The forming of soil may need hundreds of years, so the conservation of soil is a global crucial issue. Thus, the monitoring and continuous analyses of soil are needed to solve any problem, promote its productivity, prevent any harmful agent on soil, and save it. Therefore, the Lab is the main place, in which we could carry out some experiments, diagnosis the soil, know the nutritional status, determine the suitability for cultivating different crops, the microbial, biochemical, physical, and biological characterization of soil. This editorial call for more concern about the soil through submission articles that discuss all topics related to the soil science and its security. In this editorial work the photos are the main component which will present the most important thing in nay Lab "the instruments". The Lab and its facilities are necessary for the quality of any scientific research.

Megjegyzések:As a backbone of any nation, agriculture is the main supplier for our needed from food, feed, fiber and fuel. The production of vegetables is one on the main pillars of the agricultural production for human nutrition. This production nowadays has a serious problem, which may lead to many problems for human health. So, the "from farm to fork or F2F" initiative was launched last 2020 for healthy and eco-friendly food system. This study is a photographic mini-review on the strategy of F2F and the importance to produce healthy food like edible vegetables. The main targets of this strategy may include preventing food loss and waste, sustaining the production, and processing of food, its distribution, and consumption. The nano-farming expresses on using different nanomaterials in different agricultural practices of vegetables like nano-priming, nanofertilization, nano-pesticides, nano-harvesting, and nano-postharvest. The current work was designed to answer about the main question: can nano-farming support the F2F strategy? More open questions will be presented in this study.

Megjegyzések:Due to the rapid population growth, the global food production should be increased to meet this global demand. Agriculture is considered the main dominant channel of food supply and any approach can support the crop productivity is urgent. These agro-practices may include using the high-yield varieties, improving irrigation and fertilization. It is noticed that, using of chemical or mineral fertilizers in agricultural production dramatically increased the global food production. Several negative impacts have been recorded worldwide on the environment, which resulted from leaching of nutrients into groundwater, beside the decline the efficiency of applied fertilizers. Applying of nanofertilizers, is a promising approach, and an effective technology, which can increase sustainability and efficiency of agro-production of cultivated crops because of their nano-size properties, their high nutrient use efficiency, their slow release of nutrients, and thereby low required applied dose of fertilizer. Smart fertilizer means the controlling of applied fertilizers in their dose and time using the smart agriculture through technological and advanced tools such as global positioning systems, and remote sensing. These tools are able to maximize crop yield and minimize agro-chemical inputs by precise monitoring of the environment. Therefore, this work is a comparison between smart fertilizer and nanofertilizer, and to answer the main question: are the bio-nanofertilizers considered emerging precision agriculture strategy? This is also a call by EBSS for receiving articles on smart fertilizer, under many related topics such as different applications of smart fertilizers in smart agriculture, challenges, their obstacles and the novel solutions in this concern.

Megjegyzések:In the last centuries, the agriculture depended on the fertile soils and beside the river, which helped the ancient humans to establish many civilizations like the Egyptian civilization. This agriculture was mainly depended on the open field cultivation to produce the necessary food for the human, but an urgent need was formed under the global overpopulation to produce more food using different farming systems such as soilless farming, protected cultivation, and hydroponics, etc. The protected farming allows producing crops (food) under controlled conditions to modify any natural environment prevent/ restrict the plant growth and its productivity. This work focuses on the protected farming and its association with climate changes or climate-smart-agriculture. The protected farming has several problems in the developing countries especially under using the low-tech protected farming technique. Climate-smart-agriculture is an agriculture, by which its productivity can be sustainably increased, its resilience to climate change can be enhanced, and greenhouse gases can be mitigated, as well as enhances achievement of national food security and development goals. The closed relationship between protected farming and climate-smart agriculture is needed to be investigated in more research. Therefore, this work reported on the protected farming and its potential against changing climate. This is also a call by Environment, Biodiversity and Soil Security (EBSS) for receiving articles on protected agriculture under climate-smart agriculture approach, their challenges, their obstacles and the novel solutions in this concern.

Megjegyzések:Mushroom farming is the practice of growing and cultivating various species of mushrooms for food, medicinal, or industrial purposes. It involves creating the ideal environment and conditions for the mushrooms to grow and thrive, such as providing a substrate (a nutrient-rich material on which mushrooms grow), controlling temperature and humidity, and ensuring proper ventilation and lighting.Several innovative applications of mushrooms can be noticed in their farming and cultivation. These applications mainly focus on the medicinal and prebiotic attributes, besides their role in producing food and energy. This review is an attempt to highlight the cultivation of mushrooms and their requirements under different kinds of farming. These farming types may include mushroom-worm system, mushroom-bee farming, smart mushroom farming, forest-mushrooms farming, urban mushroom farming, and mushroom-livestock farming. In this study the condition of cultivation of several mushroom species and their edibility is included. Edible/medicinal mushrooms are well-known for their high content of many beneficial bioactive ingredients for human health such as antioxidants, ergosterols, lectins, phenolics/polyphenolics, polysaccharides, and terpenoids. These bioactives of mushrooms have the potential capability to treat and/or prevent several chronic diseases. The medicinal and prebiotic attributes of mushrooms still need more investigation, and this topic of "mushrooms in medicine" still has several open questions are needed to be answered in the future.
