A legeléspreferencia jelleg alapú elemzése során a 29 leggyakoribb fajt vizsgáltuk.

Megjegyzések:Trait-based ecology is gaining ground nowadays on species-based ecology: the number of research and publication focusing on the ecological role of taxa instead of the species themselves increased significantly in the last two decades. One great advantage of this approach is that communities with different species composition due to great geographical distances (e.g., different continents) or different environmental conditions (e.g., loess, sand, and alkaline grasslands) become comparable. Obtaining trait values is, however, labour and time consuming even in the case of so-called soft traits. It is therefore reasonable and desirable for scientists to share their data as widely as possible. Demand for such data induced the publication of data papers and the establishment of databases, which support both theoretical ecological research and practical restoration ecological projects. Although several international databases (e.g., TRY, LEDA, CLO-PLA, BiolFLOR) are available nowadays, Central and Eastern European species are either missing or underrepresented in them. Consequently, measurement and publication of the traits of species typical in the above region is necessary. This paper presents leaf trait (leaf fresh and dry weight, leaf area, specific leaf area and leaf dry matter content) data for more than 1100 species of the Central European flora.

Megjegyzések:Aim We evaluated stands of the invasive grass, Sporobolus cryptandrus in its native North American range and its non-native European range, where it is a recent invader. Our aim was to reveal how the species' increasing abundance affects functional diversity and the ecosystem service-provisioning capacities of plant communities in both ranges. Location Sand grasslands in the Kiskunsag, Hungary and in Montana, USA. Methods All vascular plant species and their relative abundances were recorded in a stratified random manner in 1 m x 1 m plots in each range, using the following cover categories of Sporobolus as strata: 1%-25%, 26%-50%, 50%-75%, and 75%-100%. The functional characteristics of the plant communities in the two continents were compared. We performed comparisons of the communities both with and without including Sporobolus. Results Increasing Sporobolus cover resulted in a lower functional diversity and species richness, reduced average specific leaf area and increased the height of whole plant communities in both ranges but these effects were significantly stronger in the non-native stands. Sporobolus also negatively affected the cover of insect-pollinated plant species and the proportion of native perennials, switching the rest of the community from perennial-dominated to annual-dominated. In plant communities without Sporobolus, increasing Sporobolus cover led to a higher specific leaf area and seed mass in both ranges, but average height was decreasing along the Sporobolus abundance gradient in the native range, whereas it was increasing in the non-native range. Conclusions The spread of Sporobolus, away from its native range, leads to the impoverishment of host communities and compromises the biomass and floral resource-provisioning capacity of the vegetation to higher trophic levels. Tackling the spread of this new invader should therefore be a priority task.

Megjegyzések:The present paper is the 13th in a series of papers contributing new floristic data to complement the distribution maps of Atlas Florae Hungariae. We present altogether 1307 new occurrence data to advance our knowledge of the distribution of vascular plants in Hungary. New data are presented for 634 vascular plant species from 256 flora mapping quarter quadrates (CEU). Due to the unevenness of data collection, the data are highly dispersed over the area of Hungary. Most of the presented occurrence data are from the Great Hungarian Plain, the North Hungarian Mountains, and the Little Hungarian Plain regions. The enumeration includes rare native species (e.g., Androsace maxima, Erysimum crepidifolium, Orobanche gracilis, Peucedanum palustre, Pulsatilla zimmermannii, Scopolia carniolica, Vicia biennis), rare or data deficient adventive species (e.g., Euphorbia prostrata, Euphorbia serpens, Lindernia dubia), subspontaneous occurrences of native species (Asplenium scolopendrium, Daphne laureola, Chenopodium opulifolium), species spreading along linear infrastructure (Eleusine indica, Plantago coronopus, Sorghum halepense, Spergularia salina, Tragus racemosus), and also common native species with data deficient distribution maps (Agrostis stolonifera, Bromus benekenii, Bromus japonicus, Carex caryophyllea, Carex divulsa subsp. divulsa, Equisetum ramosissimum, Vulpia myuros).

Megjegyzések:We tested the establishment success of grassland species in the presence or absence of zoochory by livestock and identified the traits associated with successful establishment. Hortobágy National Park, Hungary. In six restored species-poor grasslands we established two species-rich 4 m ? 4 m source plots per site in 2013. One source plot was managed by extensive cattle grazing ("zoochory on"), the other one was fenced and protected from grazers ("zoochory off"). We monitored the vegetation development in the source plots (2014?2018), and the establishment success of sown species (2016?2018) in adjacent dispersal plots in four, 20-m-long strips per source plot in a total of 960 dispersal plots. We calculated community-weighted means of thirteen plant traits related to regeneration and competitive ability. The effect of grazing, year, distance from source plots, grazing?year and grazing?distance interactions on population and trait dynamics in the source and dispersal plots were analysed with generalized linear mixed-effect models. Although grazing reduced the cover and flowering success of sown species in the source plots, the number of successful establishment events was higher in dispersal plots next to grazed source plots. The sown species were the most abundant in plots adjacent to source plots, but occurred at all monitored distances. Zoochory favoured perennial plants with high specific leaf area (SLA), low leaf dry matter content (LDMC), short stature, light seeds, early flowering period, high clonal index and anemochory index. We showed that species that can colonize the matrix with and without zoochory have contrasting trait syndromes. In grazing-adapted ecosystems, fencing source populations of target species does not always seem to be a good option. It was a good tool for increasing the cover and flowering success of the sown species in the short run, but it significantly decreased their chance to colonize the surrounding area in the long run.

Megjegyzések:Sowing of grass seed mixtures is a feasible and cost-effective method for landscape-scale grassland restoration. However, sow-ing only grasses usually leads to species-poor and dense swards, where the establishment of target forbs is hampered by micro-site and propagule limitation. To overcome these limitations and increase the diversity of species-poor sown grasslands, wedeveloped a novel method by creating"establishment gaps.". We used tillage to open gaps of 1-, 4-, and 16-m2size in the densegrass sward of six species-poor restored grasslands in the Great Hungarian Plain. We sowed high-diversity seed mixtures of35 native species into all gaps. We analyzed vegetation development during thefirst 5 years after setting up the trial. We alsostudied the colonization dynamics of the sown species along four 20-m transects around each gap, resulting in a total of 1440plots of 1-m2size that were studied. Our results indicated that most of the sown species were able to establish permanentlyin the gaps. The total cover and the cover of perennial sown species increased and the cover of short-lived sown speciesdecreased independent of gap size. There was only a moderate level of weed abundance in the gaps, and weed cover decreasedover the years. The sown target species started to colonize the species-poor grasslands surrounding the gaps within 5 years. Thehighest number of species and individuals dispersed from the 4-m2gaps, as they had a more stable development than smallergaps and were exposed to lower grazing pressure than large ones.

Megjegyzések:Seeds ensure the survival and dispersal of the majority of vascular plant species. Seeds require species-specific germination conditions and display very different germination capacities using different germination methods. Despite the importance of plant generative reproduction, little is known about the germination capacity of the seeds of the Pannonian flora, particularly under field conditions. Our aim was to reduce this knowledge gap by providing original data on the germination capacity of 75 herbaceous species. We reported the germination capacity of 8 species for the first time. We also highlighted the year-to-year differences in the germination capacity of 11 species which could be highly variable between years. The data regarding the germination capacity of target species, as well as weeds and invasive species, can be informative for nature conservation and restoration projects. Our findings support the composition of proper seed mixtures for ecological restoration and also highlight the importance of testing seed germination capacity before sowing.
