Megjegyzések:This study was conducted to examine the effect of natural compounds, such as ?-glucan, carotenoids, oligosaccharides, and anthocyanins in the diet on bacteria gropus of excreta in Ross 308 broiler chickens. Chickens were fed 5 diets: control (basal) diet, a diet supplemented by ?-glucan at 0.05%, and diets supplemented by carotenoids, oligosaccharides, or anthocyanins at 0.5% of each compound. On experimental day 19, excreta were collected to determine the proportion of Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, Campylobacter, Clostridium, and Escherichia coli. Samples were collected aseptically and snap-frozen in liquid nitrogen. Bacterial DNA was isolated from samples, then polymerase chain reaction using primer pairs designed to the 16S rDNA of bacterial groups were applied to define the proportion of the mentioned bacteria. Another universal primer pair was used to amplify a region of 16S rDNA of all the examined bacteria. Proportion of each bacterial groups was determined relatively to the intensity of universal PCR product band by gel documenting system and ImageLab software. Based on the results, carotenoids and anthocyanins increased the proportion of Bifidobacterium, which might imply the beneficial effects of the mentioned compounds on the bacteria composition of excreta.

Megjegyzések:This study was conducted to investigate the effect of carotenoid, oligosaccharide and anthocyanin supplementation in broiler diets under Escherichia coli lipopolysaccharide (LPS) challenge. Ross 308 chickens were fed 5 diets: basal diet (control diet), diet supplemented with beta-glucan in 0.05% (positive control) and diets with 0.5% carotenoid-, oligosaccharide- or anthocyanin contents. On the 26th days of age, chickens were challenged intraperitoneally 2 mg LPS per kg of body weight. 12 h after injection, birds were euthanized, then spleen and ileum samples were collected. LPS induced increased relative mRNA expression of splenic (p = 0.0445) and ileal (p = 0.0435) interleukin-1 beta (IL-1 beta), which was lower in the spleen in carotenoid (p = 0.0114), oligosaccharide (p = 0.0497) and anthocyanin (p = 0.0303)-treated chickens compared to LPS-injected control birds. Dietary supplementation of carotenoids also decreased relative gene expression of splenic interleukin-6 (IL-6) (p = 0.0325). In the ileum, beta-glucan supplementation showed lower relative mRNA expression of toll-like receptor 5 (TLR-5) (p = 0.0387) compared to anthocyanin treatment. Gene expression of both splenic and ileal interferon-alpha (IFN-alpha), interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma), toll-like receptor 4 (TLR-4) and toll-like receptor 5 (TLR-5) were not influenced by dietary supplements. In conclusion, carotenoids, oligosaccharides and anthocyanins could partially mitigate the immune stress caused by LPS challenge. All of the compounds impacted longer villus height (p < 0.0001), villus height:crypt depth ratios were higher after beta-glucan (p < 0.0001) and anthocyanin (p = 0.0063) supplementations and thickened mucosa was observed in beta-glucan (p < 0.0001), oligosaccharide (p < 0.0001) and anthocyanin (p = 0.048) treatments. All of these findings could represent a more effective absorption of nutrients.

Megjegyzések:Study aimed to investigate the impact of long-term high ambient temperature (HAT) exposure and dietary antioxidant supplementation (elevated levels and in combination) on nutrient digestibility, metabolism and immune response of pigs. A total of 36 Danbred barrows (65.1 ? 2.81 kg) were allotted to four treatments: Trm1: HAT (28.9 ? 0.9 ?C) + control diet (CD); Trm2: HAT + elevated vitamin C and E and Se and Zn; Trm3: HAT + further elevated vitamin C and E and Se and Zn; and Trm4: thermo-neutral ambient temperature (19.5 ? 0.9 ?C) + CD. Nutrients (DM, CP, Cfat, CF, CA, GE) and minerals (Ca, P, Na, Zn, Se) digestibility were determined. Plasma metabolite and cytokine concentrations were investigated from the blood samples collected on d 15 and 28. Heat shock proteins (HSP 70 and 90) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-?) expressions were investigated from jejunum samples of pigs. HAT did not significantly affect pigs' nutrient digestibility and retention (P > 0.05). However, Trm2 pigs had greater digestibility in terms of DM, CF, Ca, Zn, Se and retention of Ca, Zn, Na, and Se than Trm1 and Trm4 groups. Trm3 pigs had significantly higher (P < 0.05) creatinine concentrations than Trm4 pigs. HAT did not significantly affect the expression of cytokines; however, vitamins and micro-minerals supplementation in the diet significantly (P < 0.05) improved interleukin (IL) 10 expression, reduced TNF-?, and HSP70 expressions. Vitamin and micro-mineral fortified diet can improve pigs' nutrient and mineral digestibility and could alleviate inflammatory response in pigs exposed to HAT.

Megjegyzések:Heat stress (HS) can impair the pigs' intestinal integrity, jeopardizing their nutrient and mineral digestibility. Our study aim was to investigate HSs' impact on the ileal digestibility of nutrients and minerals in pigs and whether high dietary antioxidant (vitamins C, E, and micro-minerals Se, Zn) supplementation can improve their digestibility. Twenty-four Danbred barrows (65.1 ± 2.81kg) were distributed into four groups and placed in individual digestibility cages under thermo-neutral (TN) (19.5 ± 0.9°C) or HS (28.9 ± 0.9°C) room condition and fed with their respective dietary treatment (TN + control feed (TC); HS + control feed (HC); HS + elevated level dietary antioxidants (HT1); and HS + double elevated level of dietary antioxidants (HT2). Diets and ileal digesta were analysed for crude protein (CP), fat, fiber, ash, organic matter, NFE and minerals (Ca, P, Zn, Se, and Na). HS did not significantly affect the ileal digestibility of nutrients and minerals (P > 0.05). However, pigs on the HT1 treatment had significantly greater digestibility (P < 0.05) of CP, crude ash, Zn, Se, and Na than those on HC treatment. In conclusion, high genetic potential pigs can be resilient to HS adverse effects on the parameters studied. A high dietary antioxidant-fortified diet could improve pigs' nutrient and mineral digestibility under the HS challenge.

Cím:Effects of antioxidant supplementation on the growth performance of pigs exposed to heat stress / Arth David Sol Valmoria Ortega, László Babinszky, Xénia Erika Ozsváth, Ogonji Humphrey Oriedo, János Oláh, Csaba Szabó
Dátum:2021
Megjegyzések:Heat stress (HS) is a great consequence experienced by pigs when global temperature rises due to climate change. Production parameters such as growth is highly affected by this condition as the animal will be forced to perform physiological mechanisms in order to reduce metabolic heat and maintain euthermia of which is an important factor for the animals' optimal productive performance. In line with the capacity of antioxidants (organic source) to alleviate the adverse effects of HS, it is this research's aim to assess the effect of antioxidant (vitamins C and E, and minerals selenium and zinc) supplementation at elevated levels on the growth performance of pigs reared under HS conditions. Thirty-six Danbred barrows (65?70 kg) were allocated into four treatment groups, one group placed in thermal comfort (TC) (20 ?C) and the remaining groups (HC, HS1 and HS2) in HS condition (30 ?C). The pigs were fed with their respective diet; pigs in TC received basal feed (B) and in HS room, diets B (HC), elevated 1 (increased levels of antioxidants, HS1), and elevated 2 (further increased in antioxidant levels, HS2) were given in ad libitum. Measurements were performed weekly for four weeks, which comprised the adaptation (7 days, fed B diet), gradual temperature rise (heat increment, fed experimental diet) in HS room (7 days) and the experimental period (14 days). Body weight gain (BWG), average daily gain (ADG), feed intake (FI), and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were measured. All throughout the adaptation and heat increment period, pigs in all treatment have similar measurements. HS had no significant effect (P > 0.05) on the BWG, FI and FCR of pigs, numerically, however, HC pigs had the lightest BWG and were the least efficient feed converter among the treatment groups. Significantly lighter ADG (P < 0.05) was observed in HC pigs in the 2nd week of the experimental period, whilst not statistically, slight improvement in the ADG of pigs were observed upon the supplementation of antioxidants at HS1 level. Our results indicate that, in certain growth performance parameters, pigs with high genetic capacity can be resilient to the adverse effects of HS, and for those parameters that is greatly affected by HS, it can be slightly improved by antioxidant supplementation.

Megjegyzések:The objective of this study was to determine the effects of heat stress (HS) on the production performance of fattening pigs and whether the supplementation of vitamins (C and E) and micro-minerals (Se and Zn) at increased concentrations can mitigate HS adverse effects. Thirty six Danbred hybrid barrows (65.1 ± 2.81 kg) were randomly distributed into four treatments 1) HS (28.9 ± 0.9 °C, RH- 60.4 ± 4.3 %) + control diet (HC), 2) HS + diet 1 (HT1), 3) HS + diet 2 (HT2), and 4) thermo-neutral conditions (19.5 ± 0.9 °C, RH- 85.9 ± 7.3 %) + control diet (TC). Bodyweight and feed intake were measured weekly for four weeks. After the experiment, six pigs from each treatment were slaughtered, and the longissimus lumborum muscle was sampled to evaluate meat quality. At week four, HS significantly affected pig body weight (p < 0.05). However, the other parameters were not significantly affected by HS,while slight improvements in these parameters were observed by supplementing vitamins and micro-minerals in the diet of the pigs despite exposure to HS. Therefore, the pigs used in the study showed resilience to adverse effects of HS on growth and meat quality parameters. The content of vitamins C and E and microminerals Se and Zn in the diet seems to play an important role in resilience to HS, therefore their requirement and supplementation should be carefully evaluated.

Megjegyzések:In the broiler industry, the average daily gain and feed conversion ratio are extremely favorable, but the birds are beginning to approach the maximum of their genetic capacity. However, as a consequence of strong genetic selection, the occurrence of certain metabolic diseases, such as myopathies, ascites, sudden cardiac death and tibial dyschondroplasia, is increasing. These metabolic diseases can greatly affect the health status and welfare of birds, as well as the quality of meat. The main goal of this study was to investigate the changes in the main parameters of redox homeostasis during the rearing (1-42 days of age) of broilers with high genetic capacity, such as the concentrations of malondialdehyde, vitamin C, vitamin E, and reduced glutathione, the activities of glutathione peroxidase and glutathione reductase, and the inhibition rate of superoxide dismutase. Damage to the transsulfuration pathway during growth and the reason for changes in the level of homocysteine were investigated. Further, the parameters that can characterize the biochemical changes occurring in the birds were examined. Our study is the first characterize plasma albumin saturation. A method was developed to measure the levels of other small molecule thiol components of plasma. Changes in redox homeostasis induce increases in the concentrations of tumor necrosis factor alpha and inflammatory interleukins interleukin 2, interleukin 6 and interleukin 8 in broilers reared according to current large-scale husbandry technology and feeding protocols. A significant difference in all parameters tested was observed on the 21st day. The concentrations of cytokines and homocysteine increased, while the concentrations of glutathione and cysteine in the plasma decreased. Our findings suggest that observed changes in the abovementioned biochemical indices have a negative effect on poultry health.
