Megjegyzések:Dorper (DO) is a meat-specialized hair composite breed, intensively selected for growth rates, carcass quality,unselective grazing. The aim of the current comparative study was to evaluate the adaptability and performance ofDO breed under Hungarian and Romanian rearing conditions. DO breed was introduced into Hungary to DebrecenUniversity in 2008. Under Hungarian rearing conditions the DO breed maintained its non-seasonal reproduction andreproductive precocity, with maiden ewes being put to ram starting the age of 9 months. Lamb crops of 2 weaned peryear are common under proper management and feeding conditions. In Romania DO breed was introduced starting2007, with the heard-book and genetic improvement plan of the breed being established in 2009. Under Romanianfarming conditions the DO rams are usually used as terminal sires which are crossed with indigenous Turcana andTsigai breeds, being preferred by the farmers to sire the crossbreds because of the high growth rates and nonselectivegrazing of the crossbreds. Fertility of DO ewes and survival rates of the DO sired lambs until weaning werenot affected when compared to native Turcana breed. It was concluded that DO breed has adapted and performsextremely well under both Hungarian and Romanian rearing conditions.

Megjegyzések:The purpose of the present study was to test the hypothesis that season has an affect on semen quality and scrotal circumference ofDorper rams. The experiment was carried out with six Dorper rams aged between 15 and 18 month. Semen samples were collected withartificial vagina and volume, concentration (x 109/ml), total sperm number/ejaculate (x 109), mass motility (0-5), progressive motility (%), scrotalcircumference (cm) was observed. Significant differences (P<0.05) were observed in concentration, total sperm number/ejaculate, scrotalcircumference in different seasons. Volume was the highest in autumn (1.4?0.5 ml) and the lowest in the spring (1.3?0.4 ml). Concentrationof semen was lower in spring (2.6?1.5 x 109) and summer (3.3?1.5 x 109) as compared to fall (4.1?1.1 x 109) (P<0.05). Regardingtotal sperm number/ejaculate (x 109), scrotal circumference (cm) all the seasons differed significantly (P<0.05), although the season had noeffect on mass motility and progressive individual motility (P<0.05). In conclusion the present study showed that semen quality parametersand scrotal circumference of Dorper rams were better in autumn than in the other sea-sons.

Megjegyzések:This study was conducted to investigate the effect of carotenoid, oligosaccharide and anthocyanin supplementation in broiler diets under Escherichia coli lipopolysaccharide (LPS) challenge. Ross 308 chickens were fed 5 diets: basal diet (control diet), diet supplemented with beta-glucan in 0.05% (positive control) and diets with 0.5% carotenoid-, oligosaccharide- or anthocyanin contents. On the 26th days of age, chickens were challenged intraperitoneally 2 mg LPS per kg of body weight. 12 h after injection, birds were euthanized, then spleen and ileum samples were collected. LPS induced increased relative mRNA expression of splenic (p = 0.0445) and ileal (p = 0.0435) interleukin-1 beta (IL-1 beta), which was lower in the spleen in carotenoid (p = 0.0114), oligosaccharide (p = 0.0497) and anthocyanin (p = 0.0303)-treated chickens compared to LPS-injected control birds. Dietary supplementation of carotenoids also decreased relative gene expression of splenic interleukin-6 (IL-6) (p = 0.0325). In the ileum, beta-glucan supplementation showed lower relative mRNA expression of toll-like receptor 5 (TLR-5) (p = 0.0387) compared to anthocyanin treatment. Gene expression of both splenic and ileal interferon-alpha (IFN-alpha), interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma), toll-like receptor 4 (TLR-4) and toll-like receptor 5 (TLR-5) were not influenced by dietary supplements. In conclusion, carotenoids, oligosaccharides and anthocyanins could partially mitigate the immune stress caused by LPS challenge. All of the compounds impacted longer villus height (p < 0.0001), villus height:crypt depth ratios were higher after beta-glucan (p < 0.0001) and anthocyanin (p = 0.0063) supplementations and thickened mucosa was observed in beta-glucan (p < 0.0001), oligosaccharide (p < 0.0001) and anthocyanin (p = 0.048) treatments. All of these findings could represent a more effective absorption of nutrients.

Megjegyzések:Foreign markets demand high quality meat lambs, therefore the Hungarian breeders need to produce light lamb for E.U. market and also focus on quality lamb production in order to satisfy the demand of the Italian market. The Dorper is a suitable breed for high quality carcass lamb production. The objective of this study was to evaluate Dorper and White Dorper lambs birth weight (BWT(0)), 30 days (BWT(30)), 60 days (BWT(60)), 90 days (BWT(90)) and 120 days (BWT(120)) body weight under Hungarian rearing conditions. Average birth weight was of 3.40+/-0.78 kg. The genotype (Dorper versus White Dorper) did not influenced the body weight Dorper's registered 30,27+/-5,71 kg while White Dorper registered 31,94+/-5,88 kg at the age of 120 days. The single and double lambs were significant heavier than triplets, in both genotypes. Sex also had a significant effect in both breeds, resulting in that ram lambs were significant heavier than ewe lambs.
