Cím:High level of genetic variation in Aricia artaxerxes issekutzi (Lycaenidae) populations in Northern Hungary / Katalin Pecsenye,Judit Bereczki,Mariann Szilágyi, Zoltán Varga
Dátum:2007
Megjegyzések:Aricia artaxerxes issekutzi imagos were collected from eight localities in two regions in Northern Hungary (Bükk Mountains and Aggtelek Karst region) in 1999 and 2000. Enzyme polymorphism was analysed at 16 enzyme loci using polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. In the analysis of the data, F-statistics was computed and the total genetic variation was partitioned into within and between population components. Nei's genetic distances were calculated and UPGMA dendrogram was constructed on the basis of the distance matrix. Hierarchical F-statistics and AMOVA were computed to study the pattern of genetic differentiation among the samples. PCA analysis was also carried out using the allele frequencies of the samples. The Hungarian populations of A. artaxerxes issekutzi exhibited a high level of enzyme polymorphism. Both the dendrogram and the results of PCA indicated a clear differentiation between the Bükk and Karst regions. Most parameters of polymorphism and also the level of differentiation among the local populations were similar in the two regions. Nevertheless the average number of alleles per locus was significantly lower in the samples of the Bükk Mts than those of the Karst ones. In addition, the Bükk populations possessed a significantly lower portion of the species allele pool compared to the Karst ones. It was mostly the consequence of genetic drift due to the small population sizes in the Bükk Mts.

Cím:The Dusky Large Blue : Maculinea nausithous kijevensis (Sheljuzhko, 1928) in the Transylvanian basin: New data on taxonomy and ecology / László Rákosy, András Tartally, Marin Goia, Ciprian Mihali, Zoltán Varga
Dátum:2010
Megjegyzések:Maculinea nausithous (Bergsträsser, 1779) was recently discovered in two parts of the Transylvanian basin. External characters of these populations completely agree with the original description of Maculinea nausithous kijevensis (Sheljuzhko, 1928) and show some small but constant differences against the Central European nominotypic populations. Since the habitats and host ant selection of these populations are also different from the Central European populations, we consider M. nausithous kijevensis stat. rev. as valid subspecic taxon. Specimens with the same external characters were also collected in northeastern Romania, in Kazakhstan and in the western part of the Altai Mts. Therefore we believe that this subspecies has a wider Euro-Siberian distribution.

Cím:Dispersal ability and habitat selection in Melitaea telona kovacsi Varga, 1967 and M. phoebe (Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775) (Nymphalidae) in steppe grassland / János Pál Tóth, Judit Bereczki, Nigel Spring, Zoltán Varga
Dátum:2010
Megjegyzések:Melitaea telona is a protected species in Hungary. The known range has shown signifi cant contraction over the last decades. In order to conserve this species it is important to understand its dispersal ability and patterns of movement. The, mobility of M. telona and the related M. phoebe were studied using capture-recapture methods. 307 M. telona and 139 M. phoebe individuals were marked and 12% recaptured during May 2009 in three study areas with ten sample sites. We estimated the densities of the larval food plant (Cirsium pannonicum) and of the most important nectar source (Dianthus pontederae). M. telona is moderately localized: the species is able to reach habitat patches several hundred metres distant. It tends to occur in high numbers where the food plant is abundant. In these sites, fewer M. phoebe were found, while there were higher numbers in the more degraded patches. Our data suggests that the density of the food plant is more important than the abundance of nectar sources in habitat selection by M. telona.
