Dátum:2020

Megjegyzések:By finding all integral points on certain elliptic and hyperelliptic curves we completely solve the Diophantine equation ((n)(k)) = ((m)(l)) + d for -3 <= d <= 3 and (k, l) is an element of {(2, 3), (2, 4), (2, 5), (2, 6), (2, 8), (3, 4), (3, 6), (4, 6), (4, 8)}. Moreover, we present some other observations of computational and theoretical nature concerning the title equation.

Cím:Diophantine problems related to cyclic cubic and quartic fields / Szabolcs Tengely, Maciej Ulas
Dátum:2022
ISSN:0022-314X
Megjegyzések:We are interested in solving the congruences f(3) + g(3) + 1 0 (mod fg) and f(4) - 4g(2) + 4 0 (mod fg) in polynomials f, g with rational coefficients. Moreover, we present results of computations of all integer points on certain one parametric curves of genus 1 and 3, related to cubic and quartic fields, respectively. Our approach is based on Grobner basis techniques and we do numerical experiences based on it. We mainly deal with the case deg f <= 2 and prove that there are no new families of cyclic cubic nor cyclic quartic fields. In case of cyclic quartic fields we obtained a new polynomial that was not discovered by Balady and Washington [2], it is given by t(4) + 7890798742t(3) - 37333446t(2) + 38618t + 1.

Cím:On a Diophantine equation of Erdős and Graham / Szabolcs Tengely, Maciej Ulas, Jakub Zygado
Dátum:2020
ISSN:0022-314X 1096-1658
Megjegyzések:We study solvability of the Diophantine equation n/2(n) = Sigma(k)(i=1) a(i)/2(ai), in integers n, k, a(1), ..., a(k) satisfying the conditions k >= 2 and a(i) < a(i+1 )for i = 1, ..., k - 1. The above Diophantine equation (of polynomial-exponential type) was mentioned in the monograph of Eras and Graham, where several questions were stated. Some of these questions were already answered by Borwein and Loring. We extend their work and investigate other aspects of Erdos and Graham equation. First of all, we obtain the upper bound for the value a(k) given in terms of k only. This mean, that with fixed k our equation has only finitely many solutions in n, a(1), ..., a(k). Moreover, we construct an infinite set K, such that for each k is an element of K, the considered equation has at least five solutions. As an application of our findings we enumerate all solutions of the equation for k <= 8. Moreover, by applying greedy algorithm, we extend Borwein and Loring calculations and check that for each n <= 10(4) there is a value of k such that the considered equation has a solution in integers n + 1 = a(1) < a(2) < ... < a(k). Based on our numerical calculations we formulate some further questions and conjectures.

Cím:The Diophantine equation Fn = P(x) / Sz. Tengely, M. Ulas
Dátum:2020
ISSN:1793-0421 1793-7310
Megjegyzések:We consider equations of the form F-n = P(x), where P is a polynomial with integral coefficients and F-n is the nth Fibonacci number that is, F-0 = 0, F-1= 1 and F-n = Fn-1 + Fn-2 for n>1. In particular, for each k is an element of N+, we prove the existence of a polynomial F-k is an element of Z[x] of degree 2k - 1 such that the Diophantine equation F-k(x) = F-m has infinitely many solutions in positive integers (x, m). Moreover, we present results of our numerical search concerning the existence of even degree polynomials representing many Fibonacci numbers. We also determine all integral solutions (n, x) of the Diophantine equations ((x)(2)) + d = F-n for -20 <= d <= 20 and F-n = ((x)(5).
