Megjegyzések:Objective: The aim of this study was to examine the influence of modified resin usingreactive polymer nanoparticles on physical properties of filling materials such as flexuralmodulus, flexural stress and polymerization shrinkage of different composites. Methods:Model compounds applied for the resin modification were prepared from styrene (ST) andethyleneglycol dimethacrylate (EDM) by free-radical copolymerization reaction in solution. The azobis(isobutironitrile) (AIBN) initiator was applied and the reactions were carried outat 60oC . The copolymer samples were analyzed with GPC , DLS, TEM and NMR methods. The resin component of C harisma Flow Line composite was used as reference. Theflexural stress and flexural modulus analysis were done on INSTRON 4302 instrument, andthe polymerization shrinkage was analyzed by mercury dilatometer method. Results: Wehave found that molecular weight (Mw) (20-3100 kDa) and the hydrodynamic diameter(18-100 nm) increased with increasing reaction time (30-340 min). The measurement ofthe pendant double bonds showed that the concentration of the reactive groups increased(23, 41, 60 and 91%) with increasing EDM ratio in the feed (ST/EDM 90/10, 70/30, 30/70and 10/90). Both flexural modulus and flexural stress of composite increased withincreasing reactive group concentration of copolymers. The polymerization shrinkage ofmodified composite was less than that of C harisma Flow Line. C onclusions: The reactivecopolymer nanoparticles can be "co-resin" for new modified composites. Support: Thework was supported by RET (Grant of Regional University Knowledge C enter) contractnumber (RET-06/432/2004) and by ElizaNor Polymers LLC , NJ, USA.

Megjegyzések:Dental filling materials are crosslinked resins with high abrasion resistance. Inorganic micro and recently nanofillers are introduced to improve their properties. However, the shrinkage of the resin component during the polymerization reaction is still a critical limitation of dental composite resins. Stresses from shrinkage can cause clinical problems such as postoperative pain, fracture of the tooth, and opening of restoration margins that can result in microleakages and recurrent carries. Many factors have a direct effect on the polymerization shrinkage of composite resin: curing methods (chemical or light-curing), placement techniques (incremental or bulk), cavity configuration and size of the restoration. The aim of this study was to examine the influence of modified resin using reactive polymeric nanoparticles on the physical properties of filling materials such as flexural modulus, flexural stress and polymerization shrinkage of different composites.

Dátum:2008

Megjegyzések:Soluble cross-linked nanoparticles were prepared by free radical copolymerization of styrene (ST, M1) and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDM, M2) monomers in homogeneous solution. Spherical nanoparticles were obtained in the early stage of polymerization, and no gelation occurred up to 66% of yield. The isolated particles are decorated with pendant vinyl groups that are target for further polymerization. The molar feed ratio was ST/EGDM = 5/5, the monomer concentration 0.556 mol/dm3 and the initiator concentration 5 mol %. It was found that as the conversion increased, the ratio of pendant vinyl groups reached a maximum value; however, the size of nanoparticles continued to increase with the reaction time. The molecular weight distributions were monomodal at short reaction times (30 and 60 min), however, at longer reaction times (90, 120, and 180 min) these became multimodal. This was caused by intraparticle reactions (branching and cross-linking) and possibly also by interparticle reactions (coupling). The reactive vinyl groups were detected by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR). The size of nanoparticles in swollen state was determined by dynamic laser light scattering (DLS) method and in dried form by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Molecular weight and distributions were measured by gel permeation chromatography (GPC).

Cím:Effect of nano-sized prepolymers to resin matrix of dental composite / M. Szaloki, J. Gall, K. Bukovinszki, J. Borbely, C. Hegedus
Dátum:2011
ISSN:0022-0345
Megjegyzések:Objectives: The knowledge on the efficiency of the organic prepolymers in the dental composites is limited. In thisstudy the influence of reactive polymeric nanoparticles (RPNPs) as nano-sized organic prepolymers on themechanical properties of different composite was examined. The aim of this study is to examine how theorganofillers influence the mechanical and rheological properties as volumetric shrinkage, compression strengthsand viscosity of the dental resin matrices. Methods: Organofillers were polymerized in two types of mole ratios(3/7 and 7/3). Two series of nanocomposites were formed by mixing two types of organofillers and Bis-GMA baseddental resin in the range of 5 and 25 w/w%. The nanoparticles were analyzed by TEM, DLS and 1H-NMR methods. The characterization of reinforced resins was performed by compression strength (Instron 4302), volumetricshrinkage (buoyancy method) and rheology (AR 550) methods. Results: The mean hydrodynamic diameter oforganofillers was in the range of 150 and 350 nm. The Mann-Whitney statistical analysis of contraction datashowed that the shrinkage was significantly decreased by increasing the volume of filler compared to the referenceresin. As a result it was found that the compression strength values (223.72?36.10 MPa) for the nanocompositesmodified with reactive polymeric nanoparticles separated significantly from reference unfilled resin (167.59?26.99MPa). C onclusion: The prepolymerized nanoparticles have remarkable effect on the rheological properties, polymerization shrinkage and compression strength. The photopolymerization shrinkage and compressionstrengths were improved significantly by adding prepolymers due to the specific structure of nanoparticles.

Megjegyzések:Polyreactions of multivinyl monomers in emulsion droplets lead to formation of crosslinked macromolecules. In the emulsion polymerization the surfactant-mediated nanoparticles involves the monomers serving as nanoreactors. It prevents gelation while allowing the growth of particles the defined volume. In this study we describe the formation of reactive polymeric nanoparticles (RPNPs) for potential use as dental materials or as a component of industrial powder coatings. As dental filling materials, since the predominant portion of polymerization is performed in advance, limited volumetric shrinking is expected to be observed during the final in situ photopolymerization step. On the other hand no necessary or limited use of toxic monomers is required. The correlation of monomer feed, crosslinking density, particle size, reactivity and swelling behavior of RPNPs is described.

Megjegyzések:Synthesis of polymeric nanoparticles attracts a great effort to obtain particles with desired size, surface and functionalities. Crosslinking polymerization methods have received considerable interest relation to the development of preparation of microgels, crosslinked nanoparticles, their composites and to study the gelation reactions. Many application fields have related to bulk crosslinked systems, e.g., in restorative dentistry, paint and powder coatings. Crosslinked nanoparticles can be formed in homogeneous solutions or under heterogeneous medium in micellar or emulsion conditions. Formation of polymers in emulsion also has an environmental aspect to reduce the volatile organic compounds (VOC). Reactive polymeric nanoparticles (PRNPs) were synthesized in heterogeneous medium by free radical non-linear copolymerization of mono (M1) and trivinyl acrylic (M2) monomers.

Cím:Synthesis and characterization of cross-linked polymeric nanoparticles and their composites for reinforcement of photocurable dental resin / Melinda Szaloki, Jozsef Gall, Katalin Bukovinszki, Janos Borbely, Csaba Hegedus
Dátum:2013
Megjegyzések:Reactive polymeric nanoparticles were formed for reinforcement of photocurable dental resin. Crosslinkedpolymeric nanoparticles were synthesized by emulsion polymerization of mono- (methyl methacrylate;MMA) and trifunctional (trimethylol propane trimethacrylate; TMPTMA) monomers. The nanoparticleswere dispersed in bisphenol A glycol dimethacrylate (Bis-GMA) based dental resin matrix inthe range of 5?25 wt% to form photocurable nanocomposites. The effect of reactive polymeric particles on the mechanical properties of photocurable dental resinwas investigated. Polymerization shrinkage, polymerization shrinkage stress, viscosity, diametral tensilestrength, compressive, and flexural strength of the nanocomposites have been studied. It was observed that the cross-linked nanoparticles significantly influenced the mechanical propertiesof the reinforced dental resin nanocomposites.

Dátum:2008
Megjegyzések:A series of reactive polymeric nanoparticles (RPNPs) was prepared by free radical nonlinear copolymerization of mono (M 1) and trivinyl acrylic (M 2) monomers in miniemulsion. The crosslinking density was determined by the mole ratio of the trivinyl component. It was found that the unswelled latex nanoparticles showed a narrower dispersity than in the organic solution of macromolecules. In latex, the size increased with the ratio of M 2 monomer due to its higher polarity in the aqueous medium. However, the swollen nanoparticles, dissolved or dispersed in organic solvent, showed a higher dispersity as a function of composition and the crosslinking density. The residual vinyl groups adjacent to the nanoparticles were subjected to further crosslinking reactions. The reactive vinyl groups were detected by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR). The size of particles in swollen state was determined by dynamic laser light scattering (DLS) method and the dried form by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It was found that size of RPNPs is in the range of 50 to 500 nm. These particles possess properties that may allow their application in areas as disparate as dental filling material and as a component in industrial powder-based coatings.
