Megjegyzések:Milk production and processing is one of the main agrofood sectors in Hungary. In 2016, the number of enterprises operating in milk production and milk processing sector was 741 and 80, respectively. Advanced information systems enable us to attain more and thorough data on their operation and performance and the analysis of these data is crucial for the evaluation of their situation in the sector. These data sets are important for monitoring and assessing the performance of different sectors. Hungarian Central Statistical Office provides multidimensional databases, while financial and additional information of more than half of the operating enterprises are available in EMIS database. As a complementary database, Institute of Applied Informatics and Logistics has prepared a questionnaire for survey the ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) usage characteristics of enterprises operating in the agro-food supply chain (producers and processors). The survey was conducted in the fourth quarter of 2017 and using structured questionnaire and responses are recorded by a market research company contacting the leaders or a management member of the enterprises. The sample has been selected by stratified sampling based on statistics of Hungarian Central Statistical Office (HCSO). Enterprise size based on staff employed and region at NUTS-2 level were the basis of sampling. Data set contains data about 500 enterprises operating in sectors related to agriculture and food industry (355 are operating in the production part, 145 in the processing part of the chain). 38 enterprises operating in the milk sector from the whole sample (28 belong to milk production and 10 to milk processing sector). The main objective of current article is to determine the difference between food producers and food processors, and separately between milk producers and milk processors regarding their evaluation of ICT devices in their partnerships an the internet-based solutions for certain business activities. Respondents assessed the importance of ICT on 5-point Likert scale relating to four business activities (communication; data storage and exchange, preparing documents; logistics; marketing). To determine the difference, two-sample t-test has been applied. Our results show significant difference only in the case of bulk sample, between food producers and food processors, in the evaluation of ICT devices for marketing purposes. The mean of scores given by food processors was significantly higher (Sig. (2-tailed)=0,0134 and t-value=-2,4829). There is no siginificant difference between milk producers and milk processors, however, the means of scores given by the latter for the importance of ICT tools were higher in the case of each four business activites.

Cím:Relation between corporate size and ICT usage in agro-food SMEs / Sz. Botos, L. Várallyai, R. Szilágyi, J. Felföldi
Dátum:2018
ISSN:1844-8577
Megjegyzések:In our article differences between corporate size categories have been analysed on the basis of survey data from enterprises operating in the primary agricultural production and the secondary food manufacturing part of the agro-food supply chain. Our aim is to reveal whether a close relationship between the small and medium size categories as treated officially. It could be also determine how wide the gap is between enterprise sizes (micro, small, medium and large) categories regarding the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Data set about ICT usage of 500 enterprises were recruited for our survey by a market research company and the survey was conducted in the fourth quarter of 2017. Enterprises involved from all four size categories, however, as the number of surveyed large companies operating in the agro-food sector was not suitable for further analysis, this category was excluded. Additionally, Eurostat data set with 12 indicator and broken down to 3 size categories (small, medium and large) is also involved and analysed. Our results suggest the difference in ICT usage characteristics between small and medium categories is not higher than between medium and large ones on the basis of analysis of the secondary data set. ICT use of large and small categories, however, shows a significant difference. The analysis made on our survey data shows no significant difference between small and medium enterprises regarding ICT usage features, however, between micro enterprises and the larger ones, there is. The growing complexity of the vertical and horizontal cooperation within the chain may motivate smaller, mainly micro enterprises to stimulate their ICT usage and use of advanced technologies, in our opinion a dedicated ICT strategy is needed and it should focus on this size class as these enterprises mean an important part in the agro-food sector.

Megjegyzések:In the Hungarian agro-food sector SMEs have a key role but regarding the tendency of the performance of SME sector, comparing to EU-28 average, the performance of Hungarian SME sector has gradually worsened between 2008 and 2015 while the EU average has an increasing trend. ICT can help enterprises and this article is an overview of the ICT situation of Hungarian SMEs. It is important to analyse in detail the ICT usage characteristics of agro SMEs in the food supply chain because these ICT devices, tools and services are crucial to smooth the information flow within the chain. For all these reasons our work aims to find out how Hungarian agro-food SMEs use ICT and how ICT adoption affect their business procedures, performance and development. A striking observation to emerge from the data comparison is the difference among SMEs and large enterprises regarding the usage of the different basic and advanced ICT solutions. A much bigger percent of large companies use advanced ICT then SMEs and mainly small enterprises are lagging behind as the attitudes of medium sized enterprises are rather similar to the large ones. In Hungary small enterprises in agro-food industry are in difficult financial state and for them free Cloud Computing services can offer good opportunities as they do not have initial costs. ICT adoption is very important to them as ICT sector is a dynamically growing sector and if customers and partners of an enterprise adapt faster to these technological innovations, it may have a negative effect on the different processes, performance and financial results of the organisation. In this article our aim was to determine the main question groups for our questionnaire which focus mainly on ICT solutions supporting the quality of communication and relationship between partners. As the basic IT tools are available in the major part even in the SMEs besides large companies, the two main issues will be the usage of advanced online services and the usage of high quality ICT solutions.

Megjegyzések:The optimization of agricultural production and business processes is a crucial task in order to fulfill the demand of the increasing population, to meet quality requirements, to reduce the environmental impact as well as to improve economic efficiency. The Industry 4.0 concept provides various methods in this regard, including data acquisition based on IoT (Internet of Things), or data analytics based on Big Data, to support the decision-making process of the management and the data requirement of process control methods. During preliminary research, several modular data acquisition systems, as well as management applications have been developed based on a production system to measure various environmental factors at multiple spatial points. Considering the experience gained from the testing sessions, there was a need for further development regarding the end-user perspective in order to substantiate the practical application. A comparative research was required, considering previous experience and the literature of data acquisition systems, used in agriculture. The comparison concerned an own iteration of a production system and other systems, developed by researchers of the field, to examine different options and directions. Considering three important factors, the focus was on the data acquisition systems, data management, and data utilization methods. The comparison begins with a quantitative bibliometric analysis, determining the field and characteristic connections using network and cluster analysis, considering the IoT concept as the central element. Subsequently, the progression of a system and its evaluation is presented, performed in a greenhouse. This iteration highly focuses on data management with the modification of the existing infrastructure by integrating the Hadoop ecosystem to achieve a standardized interface.
