Megjegyzések:This study presents the results of research in knowledge structure analysis that has a history of 30 years in teaching natural sciences at an international level. The word association method was applied in the research in order to explore the conceptual structure of students. Word association is a knowledge structure analysis method using key-concepts as stimulus words in relation to a given topic in order to see what other words are associated with them by the students within a given time period. In this research the stimulus words included climate change, greenhouse effect, global warming, intemperate weather and water shortage. Students were required to associate 5 words to each of the stimulus words within a given time. Based on the obtained data, relationships among the stimulus words were studied, Garskof-Houston relatedness coefficients were calculated, associations were synthesised, and their relative frequency was determined. Correlations were graphically illustrated using the software yEd Graph Editor, creating conceptual maps depicting not only the connection between stimulus words but also between stimulus words and associations and even the strength of the above relationships as well. Our research supports the hypothesis that the relationships between stimulus words and associations are stronger, which are better known to students in everyday life and which are heard more often e.g., Africa- water shortage, intemperate weather tornado.
