Cím:Effect of irrigation with saline water on the soil in simple drainage lysimeters / Zsembeli József, Kovács Györgyi, Tóth Judit
Dátum:2015
Megjegyzések:An experiment was set in 12 simple drainage lysimetersat the lysimeter station of Karcag Research Institute in2012 in order to simulate the conditions of irrigation inthe hobby gardens characteristic around Karcag, and toexamine its effect on the soil. Sprinkler and drip irrigationand saline and deionised water were used and compared. We expected lower salt accumulation in the case of dripirrigation as the salt load of the soil is lower due to thelower amount of water when drip irrigation is applied. One of our goals was to quantify this difference in saltaffection. We also applied a compost material calledTERRASOL (sheep manure based) aiming to mitigatethe harmful effect of irrigation with saline water. Afterthe irrigation period soil samples were taken from thesoil of the lysimeters down to 50 cm and analysed inorder to determine their salt content and these data werecompared to the original salt content of the soil. Ourresults show that both the application of drip irrigationand TERRASOL compost can mitigate the extent ofsecondary salinization even though it defi nitely occurs

Cím:Examination of secondary salinization in simple drainage lysimeters / József Zsembeli, Györgyi Kovács, Lilla Szűcs, Judit Tóth

Megjegyzések:Irrigation from drilled wells is very characteristic in thesmall hobby gardens located around Karcag, Hungaryduring the frequently droughty summers. Mainly vegetablesand fruits with high water demand are grown in thesegardens, hence quite a large amount of subsurface watersare used for irrigation. The quality of these waters is notchecked, the chemical composition hence the suitabilityof the water for irrigation is not known. Our hypothesiswas that these waters are salty and irrigation with theminvolves the risk of secondary salinization. Water sampleswere taken from 46 drilled wells located in the hobbygardens around the town of Karcag and the samples wereanalysed. On the base of the results it can be concludedthat the waters used for irrigation in the hobby gardensare involves high risk of secondary salinization. All theparameters indicating the salinization effect of irrigationwaters were above the thresholds in most of the cases, soit can be established that none of the investigated wellssupply water that is suitable for irrigation. In order toquantify the secondary salinization effect an experimentwas set in 12 simple drainage lysimeters at the lysimeterstation of the Karcag Research Institute. Green pepperwas irrigated with 3 different waters with high salt contentsimulating secondary salinization in comparison withlysimeters irrigated with deionised water. High risk ofsecondary salinization could be established though thehigh amount of rainfall moderated the process.
