Megjegyzések:The investigation of our research was done in Mikepércs, near to Debrecen, Eastern Hungary. The sewage system of the settlement was completed in 2010, previously the communal waste water had been transported to a nearby sewage disposal site, constructed in 1982 on sandy deposits without any technical isolation. In the surroundings of the disposal site we analysed the quality of groundwater in 2005 and 2010. In this paper we deal with the KOIps and the NH4+ pollution. We found that the concentrations exceeded the contamination limit values for several times. In the spring of 2011 the disposal site was recultivated, and ceased supplying sewage water, so an improvement has been expected in the quality of ground water. Continuing the research in November of 2011 we started sampling the same boreholes which were used in 2005 and 2010. Currently we have got eleven month results. The positive effect of the recultivation is not unambiguous at the present time. There are some wells where we could detect the improvement of the water quality, while in the case of other wells the water quality has been deteriorating significantly, particularly near by the disposal site. We need additional examinations to see of the effects of the recultivation and detect the rate of the improvement of water quality.

Megjegyzések:In this study the effects of nitrogen effluent from a permeable constructed sewage tank on groundwater quality were investigated. Sampling took place before and 1.5 years after the closure. Using a 3D hydrogeological model, the spatial distribution of dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN), comprising the species NH4+, NO2- and NO3-, was modelled in the saturated zone and the amounts and changes in the ratio of NH4-N, NO2-N, NO3-N were determined. The first part of our general hypothesis, that the groundwater was heavily contaminated in the area surrounding the sewage tank, was clearly verified, since every investigated nitrogen compound exceeded the contamination limit values; but the second part of our hypothesis, that the degree of contamination would significantly decrease after the sewage tank was taken out of use has not been confirmed, since the amount of nitrogen present in inorganic forms increased in the modelled zone. The increase in DIN and the relatively high concentration of NH4+ (35 mg/L) in the immediate vicinity of the tank can be explained by the fact that organic matter (OM) accumulated over the decades provided a constant supply of inorganic nitrogen forms.

Megjegyzések:In our study we attempt to demonstrate the effects of uninsulated sewage tanks, which are the most importantsources of contamination in settlements without sewage systems, on groundwater quality. We comparedthe results of measurements carried out before and one and a half years after the construction of the sewage system. We established 3 m deep monitoring wells within a 25 m radius of a sewage tank, which were then sampled, and the level of groundwater was recorded. The 3D model constructed on the basis of the saturated zoneshows that the effluent wastewater formed a groundwater level dome with a height of more than 1 m. After thesewage tank was taken out of use the difference between the highest and lowest groundwater levels decreased toa few centimetres. In our study we investigated the spatial distribution of NH4+ (ammonium). Using the 3D modelwe were able to precisely determine the volume of water bodies with different levels of contamination. In anapproximately 25 m3 water body, in the immediate environment of a sewage tank in use we detected NH4+ ata concentration which was characteristic of undiluted wastewater (>90 mg?dm?3). After the sewage tank was takenout of use, the concentration in its immediate environment decreased by more than 50%, although almost everywherein the modelled area concentrations were measured above the limit value. Based on the above, we canconclude that the cleaning process has started, but the complete decontamination of the groundwater will takeseveral years.

Megjegyzések:In the present paper we suggest a novel calibration method of the model for hydrodynamic and contaminant transport using the example of a sewage disposal site set up uninsulated in a sandy environment. With the hydrodynamic model we applied time-dependent model calculations in order to fit the individual hydrodynamic parameters. For the calibration of the transport model, sodium was chosen, which has a negligible retardation factor. We demonstrated that this approach is suitable for creating a model that provides calculated results comparable to the actually measured, experimental ones. The created model proved to be appropriate for use in the estimation of the maximal spatial extension of the contamination, which - in the case of the investigated sewage disposal site - was found to be 0.1 km2 in the near-surface (1-3 m deep) layers, whereas it was three times higher at a depth of 40-60 m.

Cím:Study of the factors influencing the shallow groundwater quality in two settlements with different characteristics / Szabó György, Vince Tímea, Bessenyei Éva
Dátum:2012
Megjegyzések:The water quality of dug wells and the factors influencing water quality were studied in two settlements with different natural and social-economic characteristics. Beregszász is in better situation in terms of the natural characteristics and the anthropogenic effects influencing water quality since the water table can be found deeper, and the water permeability of the soils is worse here. The sewer network is partly constructed in Beregszász, and the role of livestock farming and gardens, that endanger the quality of shallow groundwater, is less. Our presumption that the water quality of the dug wells is better in Beregszász (that have more advantageous characteristics) is proven. In the cases of all the examined contaminants (ammonium, nitrite, nitrate, orthophosphate) we proved that the contamination of the water of the wells was much more significant in Mikepércs. Based on the results we can say that among the factors influencing shallow groundwater quality the grain size distribution, then the depth of the shallow groundwater play the most important role, so mainly natural characteristics affect the water quality of the dug wells.Studying the risks of the use of water from the dug wells it is proven that there are health risks in both settlements. Mainly risks to human health are significant in Beregszász since 80% of the inhabitants living in the surroundings of the examined wells regularly consume the water of the wells, while there was not a single well where at least one value of the examined parameters did not exceed the limit value. In Mikepércs, the inhabitants do not consume water from the wells, but 86% of the wells are used to water animals. This means extremely serious risk to animal health since the water of the wells in Mikepércs is absolutely inappropriate for animal consumption (due to the serious contamination).

Megjegyzések:In our study we examined the groundwater wells at 5 lowland settlements with different circumstances. The differences among the settlements were partly due to the different stages of development of the sewage system. There was difference among the settlements in the case of the level of the groundwater and the water permeability of the soils. Numbers of the inhabitants were between 1000 and 4000 at the examined settlements. During our researches we examined how differences above mentioned had shown itself regarding the water quality of the groundwater wells. We studied the water quality on the base of the following parameters: pH, electric conductivity, ammonium, nitrite, nitrate and ortophosphate. We detected that the condition of the water of the groundwater wells were extremely unfavourable in every studied settlement, because we found that the concentrations exceeded the hygienic limit values many times related almost every water quality parameter. At the extent of the pollution there were certainly differences within the settlement and among the settlements also. In general the wells in which the water-table stretched near the surface and those which were near to some kinds of pollution sources, like a non insulated septic tank, or a manure heap, etc. were the most polluted. We determined that most of the examined wells could not be used for watering animals, because it could cause serious animal health protection risk.

Megjegyzések:In our research the water quality of the groundwater wells was investigated in the eastern part of Hungary, in a small town, called Mikepércs situated on the SW edge of the Nyírség. The sewage network had not constructed in Mikepércs by the time of the research thus the inhabitants collected the sewage in septic tanks. In Mikepércs the tanks usually had not had adequate insulation therefore the majority of the sewage (more than 90% according to our estimations) was emitted into the soil. As there are sandy soils around the settlement the sewage can filter into the soil and reach the groundwater in 1.5-3 meter easily. According to our preliminary expectation we have detected significant pollution in most of the groundwater wells in Mikepércs, especially in point of orthophosphate, nitrate and ammonium were the concentrations of the pollutants much over the hygienic limit value. Besides animals watering rarely the groundwater is drunk by human so we can say that consuming of groundwater means human and animal health risk.
