Cím:Centrality and pseudorapidity dependence of the transverse energy density in pPb collisions at root{s_NN}=5.02 TeV / A. M. Sirunyan, CMS Collaboration
Dátum:2019
ISSN:2469-9985 2469-9993
Megjegyzések:The almost hermetic coverage of the CMS detector is used to measure the distribution of transverse energy, E-T, over 13.2 units of pseudorapidity, eta, for pPb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of root s(NN) = 5.02 TeV. The huge angular acceptance exploits the fact that the CASTOR calorimeter at -6.6 < eta < -5.2 is effectively present on both sides of the colliding system because of a switch in the proton-going and lead-going beam directions. This wide acceptance enables the study of correlations between well-separated angular regions and makes the measurement a particularly powerful test of event generators. For minimum bias pPb collisions the maximum value of dE(T)/d eta is 22 GeV, which implies an E-T per participant nucleon pair comparable to that of peripheral PbPb collisions at root s(NN) 7 = 2.76 TeV. The increase of dE(T)/d eta with centrality is much stronger for the lead-going side than for the proton-going side. The i dependence of dE(T)/d eta is sensitive to the eta range in which the centrality variable is defined. Several modern generators are compared to these results but none is able to capture all aspects of the eta and centrality dependence of the data and the correlations observed between different eta regions.

Cím:Nonperturbative-transverse-momentum broadening in dihadron angular correlations in root{s_NN}=200 GeV proton-nucleus collisions / PHENIX Collaboration
Dátum:2019
ISSN:2469-9985 2469-9993
Megjegyzések:The PHENIX collaboration has measured high-P T dihadron correlations in p + p, p + A1, and p + Au collisions at root S-NN = 200 GeV. The correlations arise from inter- and intrajet correlations and thus have sensitivity to nonperturbative effects in both the initial and final states. The distributions of p(out), the transverse-momentum component of the associated hadron perpendicular to the trigger hadron, are sensitive to initial-and final-state transverse momenta. These distributions are measured multidifferentially as a function of x(E), the longitudinal momentum fraction of the associated hadron with respect to the trigger hadron. The near-side p(out) widths, sensitive to fragmentation transverse momentum, show no significant broadening between p + Au, p + A1, and p + p. The away-side nonperturbative p(out) widths are found to be broadened in p + Au when compared to p + p; however, there is no significant broadening in p + A1 compared to p + p collisions. The data also suggest that the away-side p(out) broadening is a function of N-coll, the number of binary nucleon-nucleon collisions, in the interaction. The potential implications of these results with regard to initial- and final-state transverse-momentum broadening and energy loss of partons in a nucleus, among other nuclear effects, are discussed.

Dátum:2018
ISSN:2469-9985 2469-9993
Megjegyzések:We measured direct photons for p(T) < 5 GeV/c in minimum bias and 0%-40% most-central events at midrapidity for Cu+Cu collisions at root S-NN = 200 GeV. The e(+)e(-) contribution from quasireal direct virtual photons has been determined as an excess over the known hadronic contributions in the e(+)e(-) mass distribution. A clear enhancement of photons over the binary scaled p+p fit is observed for p(T) < 4 GeV/c in Cu+Cu data. The p(T) spectra are consistent with the Au+Au data covering a similar number of participants. The inverse slopes of the exponential fits to the excess after subtraction of the p+p baseline are 285 +/- 53 (stat) +/- 57(syst) MeV/c and 333 +/- 72(stat) +/- 45(syst) MeV/c for minimum bias and 0%-40% most-central events, respectively. The rapidity density, dN / dy, of photons demonstrates the same power law as a function of dN(ch)/d eta observed in Au+Au at the same collision energy.

Cím:Production of [pi]^0 and [eta] mesons in Cu+Au collisions at root{s_NN}=200 GeV / PHENIX Collaboration
Dátum:2018
ISSN:2469-9985 2469-9993
Megjegyzések:Production of pi(0) and eta mesons has been measured at midrapidity in Cu+Au collisions at root S-NN = 200 GeV. Measurements were performed in pi(0) (eta) -> gamma gamma decay channel in the 1(2)-20 GeV/c transverse momentum range. A strong suppression is observed for pi(0) and eta meson production at high transverse momentum in central Cu+Au collisions relative to the p + p results scaled by the number of nucleon-nucleon collisions. In central collisions the suppression is similar to Au + Au with comparable nuclear overlap. The eta/pi(0) ratio measured as a function of transverse momentum is consistent with m(T)-scaling parametrization down to p(T) = 2 GeV/c, its asymptotic value is constant and consistent with Au + Au and p + p and does not show any significant dependence on collision centrality. Similar results were obtained in hadron-hadron, hadron-nucleus, and nucleus-nucleus collisions as well as in e(+)e(-) collisions in a range of collision energies root S-NN = 3-1800 GeV. This suggests that the quark-gluon-plasma medium produced in Cu+Cu collisions either does not affect the jet fragmentation into light mesons or it affects the pi(0) and eta the same way.

Dátum:2019
ISSN:2469-9985 2469-9993
Megjegyzések:We present measurements of elliptic and triangular azimuthal anisotropy of charged particles detected at forward rapidity 1 < vertical bar eta vertical bar < 3 in Au + Au collisions at root S-NN = 200 GeV, as a function of centrality. The multiparticle cumulant technique is used to obtain the elliptic flow coefficients v(2){2}, v(2){4}, v(2){6}, and v(2){8}, and triangular flow coefficients v(3){2} and v(3){4}. Using the small-variance limit, we estimate the mean and variance of the event-by-event v 2 distribution from v(2){2} and v(2){4}. In a complementary analysis, we also use a folding procedure to study the distributions of v(2) and v(3) directly, extracting both the mean and variance. Implications for initial geometrical fluctuations and their translation into the final-state momentum distributions are discussed.

Megjegyzések:Suppression of the J/psi nuclear-modification factor has been seen as a trademark signature of final-state effects in large collision systems for decades. In small systems, the nuclear modification was attributed to cold-nuclear-matter effects until the observation of strong differential suppression of the psi(2S) state in p + A and d + A collisions suggested the presence of final-state effects. Results of J/psi and psi(2S) measurements in the dimuon decay channel are presented here for p + p, p + Al, and p + Au collision systems at root sNN = 200 GeV. The results are predominantly shown in the form of the nuclear-modification factor, R-pA, the ratio of the psi(2S) invariant yield per nucleon-nucleon collision in collisions of proton on target nucleus to that in p + p collisions. Measurements of the J/psi and psi(2S) nuclear-modification factor are compared with shadowing and transport-model predictions, as well as to complementary measurements at Large Hadron Collider energies.

Dátum:2019
ISSN:2469-9985 2469-9993
Megjegyzések:We present measurements of azimuthal correlations of charged hadron pairs in root s(NN) = 200 GeV Au + Au collisions for the trigger and associated particle transverse-momentum ranges of 1 < p(T)(t) < 10 GeV/c and 0.5 < p(T)(a) < 10 GeV/c. After subtraction of an underlying event using a model that includes higher-order azimuthal anisotropy v(2), v(3,) and v(4), the away-side yield of the highest trigger-p(T)(p(T)(t) > 4 GeV/c) correlations is suppressed compared with that of correlations measured in p + p collisions. At the lowest associated particle p(T)(0.5 < p(T)(a) < 1 GeV/c), the away-side shape and yield are modified relative to those in p + p collisions. These observations are consistent with the scenario of radiative-jet energy loss. For the low-p(T) trigger correlations (2 < p(T)(t) < 4 GeV/c), a finite away-side yield exists and we explore the dependence of the shape of the away-side within the context of an underlying-event model. Correlations are also studied differentially versus event-plane angle Psi(2) and Psi(3). The angular correlations show an asymmetry when selecting the sign of the difference between the trigger-particle azimuthal angle and the Psi(2) event plane. This asymmetry and the measured suppression of the pair yield out-of-plane is consistent with a path-length-dependent energy loss. No Psi(3) dependence can be resolved within experimental uncertainties.

Cím:Measurement of [phi]-meson production in Cu plus Au collisions at root{s_NN}=200 GeV and U plus U collisions at root{s_NN}=193 GeV / PHENIX Collaboration
Dátum:2023
ISSN:2469-9985 2469-9993
Megjegyzések:The PHENIX experiment reports systematic measurements at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider of phi-meson production in asymmetric Cu + Au collisions at root sNN = 200 GeV and in U + U collisions at root sNN = 193 GeV. Measurements were performed via the phi -> K+K- decay channel at midrapidity |n| < 0.35. Features of phi -meson production measured in Cu + Cu, Cu + Au, Au + Au, and U + U collisions were found to not depend on the collision geometry, which was expected because the yields are averaged over the azimuthal angle and follow the expected scaling with nuclear-overlap size. The elliptic flow of the 0 meson in Cu + Au, Au + Au, and U + U collisions scales with second-order-participant eccentricity and the length scale of the nuclear -overlap region (estimated with the number of participating nucleons). At moderate pT, phi-meson production measured in Cu + Au and U + U collisions is consistent with coalescence-model predictions, whereas at high p(T) the production is in agreement with expectations for in-medium energy loss of parent partons prior to their fragmentation. The elliptic flow for 0 mesons measured in Cu + Au and U + U collisions is well described by a (2+1)-dimensional viscous-hydrodynamic model with specific-shear viscosity eta/s = 1/4 pi.

Dátum:2023
ISSN:2469-9985 2469-9993
Megjegyzések:The measurement of direct photons from Au + Au collisions at ,/sNN = 39 and 62.4 GeV in the transverse-momentum range 0.4 < pT < 3 Gev/c is presented by the PHENIX collaboration at the BNLRelativistic Heavy Ion Collider. A significant direct-photon yield is observed in both collision systems. A universal scaling is observed when the direct-photon pT spectra for different center-of-mass energies and for different centrality selections at ,/sNN = 62.4 GeV is scaled with (dNch/d eta)alpha for alpha = 1.21 +/- 0.04. This scaling also holds true for direct-photon spectra from Au + Au collisions at ,/sNN = 200 GeV measured earlier by PHENIX, as well as the spectra from Pb + Pb at ,/sNN = 2760 GeV published by ALICE. The scaling power alpha seems to be independent of pT, center of mass energy, and collision centrality. The spectra from different collision energies have a similar shape up to pT of 2 Gev/c. The spectra have a local inverse slope Teff increasing with pT of 0.174 +/- 0.018 Gev/c in the range 0.4 < pT < 1.3 Gev/c and increasing to 0.289 +/- 0.024 Gev/c for 0.9 < pT < 2.1 Gev/c. The observed similarity of low-pT direct-photon production from ,/sNN = 39 to 2760 GeV suggests a common source of direct photons for the different collision energies and event centrality selections, and suggests a comparable space-time evolution of direct-photon emission.

Cím:Measurements of second-harmonic Fourier coefficients from azimuthal anisotropies in p plus p, p plus Au, d + Au, and 3He+Au collisions at root{s_NN}=200 GeV / PHENIX Collaboration
Dátum:2023
ISSN:2469-9985 2469-9993
Megjegyzések:Recently, the PHENIX Collaboration has published second-and third-harmonic Fourier coefficients v2 and v3 for midrapidity (|eta| < 0.35) charged hadrons in 0%-5% central p + Au, d + Au, and 3He +Au collisions at N/sNN = 200 GeV, utilizing three sets of two-particle correlations for two detector combinations with different pseudorapidity acceptance [Acharya et al., Phys. Rev. C 105, 024901 (2022)]. This paper extends these measurements of v2 to all centralities in p + Au, d + Au, and 3He +Au collisions, as well as p + p collisions, as a function of transverse momentum (pT) and event multiplicity. The kinematic dependence of v2 is quantified as the ratio R of v2 between the two detector combinations as a function of event multiplicity for 0.5 < pT < 1 and 2 < pT < 2.5 GeV/c. A multiphase-transport (AMPT) model can reproduce the observed v2 in most-central to midcentral d + Au and 3He +Au collisions. However, the AMPT model systematically overestimates the measurements in p + p, p + Au, and peripheral d + Au and 3He +Au collisions, indicating a higher nonflow contribution in the AMPT model than in the experimental data. The AMPT model fails to describe the observed R for 0.5 < pT < 1 GeV/c, but there is qualitative agreement with the measurements for 2 < pT < 2.5 GeV/c.
