Megjegyzések:Jelen munkában a Síkfőkút LTER kutatási terület korábban fapusztulással erősen érintett cseres-kocsánytalan tölgyes faállományában bekövetkezett változásokat vizsgáltuk a törzsdenzitás, a körlapösszeg, mint fő struktúra-jellemzők és a működés szempontjából meghatározó levélfelület index (LAI) térbeli mintázatának elemzésével. Az erdőállományban az 1970-es évek végétől kezdődően főként a kocsánytalan tölgy (Quercus petraea) egyedszáma csökkent, ami azonban teret nyitott a cserjeszintben előforduló fajok lékekbe való felnövésének. A megjelenő második lombkoronaszintben elsősorban a mezei juhar (Acer campestre) található meg jelentős számban, ezért a munkánk során a tölgyek mellett e fajnak a lombkoronaszintben betöltött szerepét is vizsgáltuk.

Cím:Long-term radial growth and climate-growth relationships of Quercus petraea (Matt.) Liebl. and Quercus cerris L. in a xeric low elevation site from Hungary / Ilona Mészáros, Balázs Adorján, Balázs Nyitrai, Péter Kanalas, Viktor Oláh, Tom Levanic

Megjegyzések:Sessile oak (Quercus petraea [Matt.] Liebl.) and Turkey oak (Quercus cerris L.) dominated mixed forests are common in low montane and hilly regions in Hungary. Here, we aimed to describe the long-term pattern and climatic responses of the radial growth of Q. petraea and Q. cerris in a xeric low-elevation forest, using retrospective tree-ring analysis for the period 1910?2019. We performed separate analyses with time series of full tree-ring (TRW), earlywood (EW) and latewood (LW) widths. Our results showed that the radial growth of the two species was largely synchronous over time, but became transiently divergent for a 20-year period after a drought in 1968, due to the greater-than-expected growth of Q. cerris and the supressed growth of Q. petraea. Precipitation was the major growth-limiting factor for both species, with a strong positive influence on LW particularly during the current early growing season (March-June), on EW in the previous late summer (August-September) and in the current early spring (March), and on all tree-ring traits in the previous December. The radial growth of both species was negatively related to temperature in the spring (May) and late summer (August) of both current and previous years. The climate-growth relationships showed general instability over time: the most striking temporal change was a gradual shift of positive correlations with precipitation and SPEI during the growing season from spring (March-May) to summer (June-August) since the 1980s over the analysed period. The two species had similarly low growth resistance to droughts in four studied pointer years (1968, 1993, 2002 and 2012), but Q. cerris exhibited a greater capacity to recover over the four post-drought years, and thus higher growth resilience, particularly after the drought of 1968. Our results contribute to the better understanding of the role of climate variability and droughts in the growth of the two co-existing species in transitional locations between closed forests and forest-steppes.

Megjegyzések:Using continuous monitoring of stem radius combined with sap flow measurements weassessed the effects of environmental conditions on tree radial growth and water status of two coexistingoak species (Quercus petraea and Quercus cerris) at high resolution time in growingseasons of 2008 and 2009. The forest (95?100 yr) is situated in a xeric site in the transition zonebetween forested and forest-steppe regions in north-eastern Hungary, Bükk mountains (47o90'N,20o46'E, elevation 320?340 m a.s.l.). Weather conditions in the growing season of 2008 (totalrainfall 354 mm, mean daily temperature 17.0 oC) was less extreme than in 2009 (total rainfall299 mm, temperature 17.9 oC). Rainfall strongly determined the course of radial growth incrementin trees. Radial growth of trees was limited in 2009 due to the drought in spring. The maximumradial increment of both species was achieved three weeks earlier (4th week of June) than in 2008(4th week of July). We used dendrometer monitoring data for estimation of stem (tree) waterdeficit ( W) by measuring water-related changes in stem radius (Zweifel et al. 2005). Themagnitude of tree water deficit variation ( W) was always smaller in Q. cerris than in Q. petraea. In contrast, Quercus cerris always exhibited larger daytime averages and maxima of sap flowdensity. In August of 2009 when drought became severe there were larger increases in tree waterdeficit ( W) (50?55 %) in both species compared to July as it could be expected from the extentof decreases in sap flow density (24?28%). Our data suggested that due to the low SWC thetranspiration was supported mainly from the inner water storage of trees during prolonged droughtwhich resulted in high stem water deficit ( W).

Cím:Springtime Leaf Development of Mature Sessile Oak Trees as Based on Multi-Seasonal Monitoring Data / Viktor Oláh, Erzsébet Szőllősi, Ágnes Lakatos, Péter Kanalas, Balázs Nyitrai, Ilona Mészáros
Dátum:2012
ISSN:1787-064X
Megjegyzések:Based on a four year leaf growth data-set we modelled the thermal time-dependent leafontogeny in upper and lower canopy layers of mature sessile oak trees, in a Quercetum petraeae-cerrisforest stand (NE Hungary). Our regression models revealed no considerable differences between thetiming of leaf unfolding and leaf expansion of different canopy layers. On the other hand seasonalcourse in leaf mass-to-area ratio (LMA) indicated that sun leaves needed considerably longer thermaltime to fully develop their anatomical structures compared to shade leaves. LMA of sun leaves washigher during the whole leaf maturation process suggesting that ♭sun' and ♭shade' characteristicsdevelop in very early stage of leaf ontogeny. Functioning of photosynthetic apparatus (Fv/Fo) in shadeleaves have built up faster and performed better in all developmental stages which could be attributedto two main factors: 1) very early determination of leaf traits as a function of light environment and 2)evolving shading effect of upper canopy layer eliminates photoinhibition in lower leaves.
