Megjegyzések:The aim of the research was to reveal the effect of antenatal depressive symptoms and trait-anxiety on folate supplementation. Higher levels of depression, and trait-anxiety were hypothesized to be associated with insufficient folate intake among pregnant women in early pregnancy. Methods. Level of depressive symptoms, trait-anxiety, self-esteem, social capital, self-related health, and demographic factors (age, number of siblings, marital, educational, employment, and socioeconomic-status) were established among 185 Hungarian women in the first trimester of their pregnancies. Depressive symptoms and trait-anxiety were evaluated with the Short Hungarian Version of the Beck Depression Inventory and the Hungarian version of the Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory form Y (STAI-Y). Results. The higher levels of both trait-anxiety and self-esteem decreased the folate-intake significantly, OR=0.925 (95%CI=0.863-0.991; P=0.026) and OR=0.897 (95%CI=0.808-0.996; P=0.041) while depressive symptoms did not have an effect on it. The lower level of education (less than 8 elementary years) had similar effects (OR=0.228 [95%CI=0.064-0.817], P=0,023). The lack of trust had a significant role too (P=0.043): those, who were distrustful with other people, also had a lower chance of supplementation (OR=0.620; 95%CI=0.390-0.986). Conclusions. The way to increase the openness towards folate-supplementation leads through the treatment of psychological disturbances and the restoration of social trust.

Megjegyzések:OBJECTIVES: The aim of the study was to survey some objective and subjective indicators determining the quality of life of people with Down's syndrome (DS), born between 1975 and 2005, looked after in their families in the Southern-Transdanubian region of Hungary. The relationship between the parental level of education and the above factors was explored. METHODS: On the basis of the VRONY database (National Registry of Congenital Anomalies) health visitors contacted families looking after DS people (N = 107), and conducted anonymous, questionnaire surveys in 2008?2009. Reading was examined from school-age (N = 79), drawing and writing was examined depending on age.

Megjegyzések:Summary Aim: For health care professionals breaking bad news postnatal to parents in the case of suspected Down syndrome is a difficult task to perform. The aim of the study was, to investigate the Hungarian practice as well as the deficiencies from the perspective of the physicians providing first information and improving the current system. Methods: We have contrasted the practice of providing first information in Hungary (national coverage 74%) and for the better interpretability of the Hungarian results, 23 obstetrical institutions in Germany. In Germany communication training has already been incorporated into the curriculum of medical and health care higher education. Results: It was found that 95 % of the Hungarian and German institutes have no protocol for providing information. In Germany the professionals get significantly more communication training (p=0.06) and more contact with civil organisations (p<0.01), while in Hungary information stressing the negative aspects of the situation is more often given (p=0.024), while less consolation (p=0.017) and printed brochures are provided for parents (p=<0.01) Hungarian physicians feel more often (p=0.022) they are not capable of helping the parents. Conclusion: The Hungarian practice of providing information needs improvement. Possible tools for improvement are the introduction of communication training in the graduate and postgraduate education of health professionals as well as working on and elaborating policies concerning the breaking of bad news.
