Megjegyzések:Recent studies investigating functional networks in epilepsy have revealed specific disruptions in connectivity and network topology and, consequently, have led to a shift from "focus" to "networks" in modern epilepsy research, see for an overview van Diessen et al. [van Diessen et al., 2013.] However, taking advantage of functional MRI (fMRI) based connectivity analysis on the individual patient level still remains a challenge due to limitations of reproducibility and robustness in current analysis methods. This study shows that functional connectivity (FC) analysis based on simultaneous recordings of interictal EEG and fMRI is helpful toovercome these limitations. Our purpose was to develop and optimize a method to characterize dynamic fMRI brain network changes that co-occur with interictal epileptic discharges (IEDs) identified in the simultaneously recorded EEG. We propose an individual statistical analysis method, which exploits the non-stationary nature of functional networks and models the relationship between IED density and network changes in a sliding window framework, thus maps dynamic network alterations related to epileptic activity. In this preliminary work, the method is demonstrated with data of one illustrative patient with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE).
