Cím:The main transition management issues and the effects of environmental accounting on financial performance : with focus on cement industry / Csaba Fogarassy, Éva Neubauer, Hasan Mansur, Anita Tangl, Judit Oláh, József Popp
Dátum:2018
ISSN:1583-9583
Megjegyzések:This article highlights the importance of Environmental Accounting (EA) on financial performance and the extent of its application in cement industry companies in the light of de-carbonization goals. We defined key performance indicators of EA which are ready to be turned from unsustainable to sustainable circular operation. We have categorized them from our proposed sustainable Business Model Canvas into a transition matrix and weighted them by a circular benchmarking model connected to a circularity spiral. We have found, the direct encouragement of Environmental Provisions (EPs), and the standardization of EA within the International Financial Reporting Standards would be beneficial as EA is able to refer to and re-evaluate sustainability gaps in financial language. The main results of the research, that EA occurs at the corporate strategy level, but its application does not really depend on social needs and the sectoral circumstances of the company. Its usage also can be determined by the relationship between the socially negative external marginal costs and the production structure of the firm. EA can reflect positively on the profitability of industrial companies, provided that legislation is available to stimulate companies to take the environmental cost into consideration. Research findings have shown that the dominant factor in government intervention, so in government regulation, is to accelerate the internalization of externalities towards more cost-effective solutions.

Cím:Transition management applications to accelerate sustainable food consumption : comparative analysis between Switzerland and Hungary / Csaba Fogarassy, Huu Hoang Nguyen, Judit Oláh, József Popp
Dátum:2018
ISSN:2071-8330 2306-3483
Megjegyzések:The aim of this paper is to present the transition towards sustainability and its characteristics in consumer systems of different levels. The relevance of the topic comes from the many development paths and innovation programmes which are initially recognized as sustainable in former socialist countries but which eventually all turn out to be unsuccessful. This study introduces the research which compares the sustainable consumer attitudes of the "50+" population in Switzerland and Hungary. The former is one of the most advanced consumer communities in Europe and the latter is a post-communist economy in transition. The representative sample, which contained over 1000 questionnaires and complementary personal interviews, clearly indicated the difference between the two groups of consumers. While among Swiss population marketing tools and social discussions to promote sustainable and environmentally friendly consumption can easily be applied, in the case of Hungarian society we need to introduce new regulations and legislative standards to achieve the same aim. In the future, taking into account these results is highly recommended when considering the development of sustainability and political programmes.

Cím:The socio-economic force field of the creation of short food supply chains in Europe. / József Popp, Judit Oláh, Anna Kiss, Ágoston Temesi, Csaba Fogarassy, Zoltán Lakner
Dátum:2019
ISSN:1336-8672 1338-4260
Megjegyzések:It is a clear contradiction that while, on a verbal level, there is a mushrooming of declarations on the importance of a specific form of circular economy and short supply chains in sustainable rural development, these systems hardly exist in the new member states of the European Union (EU). The current article offers a possible explanation for this paradox and suggests some policy measures to enhance the role of these systems. Applying the approach of institutional economics and force field theory, and based on expert estimations from ten EU member states using the MACTOR method, the authors determined the influence-dependence relations between relevant actors and the actor-goal connections in the socio-economic systems relevant to short supply chains in EU member states. It was proven that in the new member states of the EU the considerable cost-efficiency advantages of global supply chains paired with the high level of influence of multinational trading companies are, in most cases, more important factors than sustainable development. The relatively low propensity to pay for local products on the part of the population of new EU member states further decreases possibilities for short supply chain development. The concluding remarks also include suggestions for policy makers.
