Office applications are the black sheep of CSI (Computer Sciences and Informatics) studies. In the most extreme opinions these programs are responsible for our failure in CSI education. Even specialists have stopped doing researches in this field, and consequently, those voices seem to gain strength which would banish applications from CSI classes.Who is right? The problem is rooted from the most common approach of these programs, namely, that they are misinterpreted and thought equivalent of handling the GUI. We found that in teaching word processing the very first level of mastery is missing, understanding the concept. Teachers skip this level and start with the second level of mastery, usage. The consequence of this approach is that almost exclusively texts created with word processors carry errors of different type and gravity.We argue that teaching word processing should start with the building of the concept, and a satisfactory level of understanding have to be achieved before the actualization of real life problems. In word processing, one of the approaches for building the concept is dealing with the errors of different type and gravity of already existing texts. The application of this approach first requires the definition of the correctly formatted, edited text. Once we are aware of this definition we have to teach that errors are not bad, but help developing the concept. This is a well-accepted method in teaching algorithms and programming. The combination of these tools would lead the students to the concept of word processing, the ability to handle their own errors, and the developing of algorithmic skill through word processing, and ultimately, for reaching a level where error free, well-structured e-documents can be created.
