Megjegyzések:Three species of small-sized rheophilic Barbus fishes are endemic to and widely distributed throughout the mountain regions in the Danube River basin. In Hungary, barbels referred to as B. petenyi occur in streams in the foothills of the Carpathians near the borders with Slovakia, Ukraine and Romania. However, up to now, no genetic investigations were carried out on rheophilic barbels in this region. This study aims to clarify the taxonomic identity and distribution of the rheophilic barbels in the Hungarian plain based on molecular and morphological analyses. Two mitochondrial genes (cytochrome b, ATPase 6/8) and one nuclear gene (beta?actin intron 2) were sequenced and several morphometric and meristic characters were recorded. Phylogenetic and morphological analyses revealed that there are four genetically distinct lineages among the rheophilic barbels in the Carpathian Basin. The results demonstrated that North?Hungarian Barbus populations belong to B. carpathicus and that B. petenyi presumably does not occur in Hungary. As expected, B. balcanicus was only recorded in samples from the Balkans analyzed for reference. A distinct species (B. biharicus Antal, László & Kotlík, 2016), new to science, was discovered to be present in Sebes?Körös River (Cri₀sul Repede) in eastern Hungary and western Romania.

Megjegyzések:Semi-intensive common carp (Cyprinus carpio) farm technology uses several feed types affecting the growth performance; however, we know less about their long-term effects on water quality. Herein, we evaluated the effects of three commonly used feeds?moderate levels of fish meal and fish oil feed (FF), plant meal and plant oil feed (PF), and cereal feed (CF) on the nutrient (total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP) and organic matter (OM)) content of the pond water. The experiment was carried out over three consecutive years from juveniles to market-sized fish. The type of feed affected the net yields, but generally, it did not affect the water quality. The year of sampling, however, was a significant factor affecting TN, TP, and OM, whose concentrations decreased during the three years. Our findings highlight that the age of the stocked fish on water quality has a more pronounced effect than the nutrient profile of the supplementary feed. Additionally, the plant-based feed could provide comparable net yields as the fish meal-based feed without additional nutrient loading in the water column, reinforcing the sustainability of alternative feeds in semi-intensive carp farming.

Cím:Sexual trait may simultaneously indicate sperm production and nutritional fitness in uniparental nest-guarding fish : a case study on Amur sleeper / A. Mozsár, A. Specziár, Zs. Pirger, I. Czeglédi, S. Kati, S. A. Nagy, K. Nyeste, D. Somogyi, L. Antal

Megjegyzések:The reproductive success of uniparental males depends much on their nutritional stage (i.e. body condition). Therefore, secondary sexual traits should convey information not only on fecundity but also on nutritional stage. To test this hypothesis, we evaluate relationships between head crest height (HCH), as a secondary sexual trait, relative testes mass (an indicator of sperm production), body condition (an indicator of nutritional status) and body mass of males of uniparental Amur sleeper Perccottus glenii in two contrasting habitats. Furthermore, we examined whether head crest is only a pure investment to advertise male fitness - either to females, rival males or other fish approaching the nest - or it comprises some regainable energy as well. We found that HCH is closely related to relative testes mass, and body condition especially at the beginning of the reproductive period. The head crest consisted of a swollen connective tissue in the supraorbital region of the head, and an oedematous epaxial muscle in the nuchal region. Furthermore, the head crest also comprised of adipose tissue, although not as much as assumed. Therefore, we argue that HCH represents a reliable signal of multiple aspects of male quality; it indicates readiness to spawn and could potentially effectively facilitate female choice towards large males with high fecundity and great nutritional stage, which is essential to good guarding performance. Moreover, the head crest itself also could contribute to nest-guarding performance by virtually enlarging body size and by representing a minor fat reserve.

Cím:Relationship between Fulton's condition factor and proximate body composition in three freshwater fish species / A. Mozsár, G. Boros, P. Sály , L. Antal, S. A. Nagy
Dátum:2015
ISSN:0175-8659
Megjegyzések:Morphometric-based condition indices are widely used toassess proximate body composition and, collaterally, feedingand living conditions of fish. However, the exact relationshipbetween condition indices and proximate body compositionof fish and its relatedness to life history traits and seasonalityhas yet to be fully explored. Therefore, the aim of this studywas to examine how the Fulton's condition factor (K-factor)is related to the chemical composition (i.e. lipid, protein, water and carbon content, and molar carbon : nitrogenratio), length and gonadal development of fish, and howthese relationships are influenced by gender and seasonalityin three freshwater fish species: Amur sleeper (Perccottus glenii),pumpkinseed (Lepomis gibbosus) and rudd (Scardiniuserythrophthalmus). It was found that the strength and directionof association between the K-factor and proximate bodycomposition can vary markedly among fish species. The Kfactorcorrelated positively with gonadal development inpumpkinseed and Amur sleeper, while no such relationshipexisted in rudd. Condition factor can be a reliable measureof lipid content; however, the relationship was stronger inspecies with higher and more variable lipid contents. Moreover,a striking and consistently negative linkage was foundbetween the K-factor and water content of the fish body, which corresponds to the findings of several other studies. Inturn, any relationship between the K-factor and the proteincontent of fish was not detected. Gender seemed to exert anegligible effect on the relationship between the K-factor andproximate body composition, while seasonal variance wasobvious in most relationships.
