Cím:Green LED as an Effective Light Source for Curing Acrylate-Based Dental Resins in Combination with Irgacure 784 / Katalin Bukovinszky, Melinda Szalóki, István Csarnovics, Istvan Szabó, Sándor Kéki, Miklós Nagy, Csaba Hegedűs
Dátum:2018
Megjegyzések:Low intensity green light emitting diodes (LED) were shown to be an effective light sourceto induce the photopolymerization of an acrylate-based photocurable dental restorative resin mixtureof bisphenol A glycerolate dimethacrylate (BisGMA), triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA),and diurethane dimethacrylate (UDMA), in combination with fluorinated diaryl titanocene (Irgacure784). Dental matrices were prepared by the LED light source at different intensities. The mechanicalproperties, such as Vickers microhardness, compressive strength, diametric tensile strength, flexturalstrength and E-modulus of the created samples were investigated. The kinetics of thephotopolymerization was followed by Raman spectroscopy and conversion values were determined. It was found that despite its narrow emission range centered at a wavelength of 531 nm, the greenLED light source is suitable for the preparation of dental matrices with good mechanical propertiesand high conversion values.

Megjegyzések:Though the antibacterial effect is advantageous, silver and silver nanoparticles can negatively affect the viability of human tissues. This study aims to check the viability of cells on surfaces with different particle size and to find the biologically optimal configuration. We investigated the effect of modified thickness of vaporized silver and applied heat and time on the physical characteristics of silver nanoparticle covered titanium surfaces. Samples were examined by scanning electron microscopy, mass spectrometry, and drop shape analyzer. To investigate how different physical surface characteristics influence cell viability, Alamar Blue assay for dental pulp stem cells was carried out. We found that different surface characteristics can be achieved by modifying procedures when creating silver nanoparticle covered titanium. The size of the nanoparticles varied between 60 to 368 nm, and hydrophilicity varied between 63 and 105 degrees of contact angle. Investigations also demonstrated that different physical characteristics are related to a different level of viability. Surfaces covered with 60 nm particle sizes proved to be the most hydrophilic, and the viability of the cells was comparable to the viability measured on the untreated control surface. Physical and biological characteristics of silver nanoparticle covered titanium, including cell viability, have an acceptable level to be used for antibacterial effects to prevent periimplantitis around implants.

Cím:Identification of histidine-Ni (II) metal complex by Raman spectroscopy / Petra Pál, Miklós Veres, Roman Holomb, Melinda Szalóki, Attila Gábor Szöllősi, István Csarnovics
Dátum:2022
ISSN:0377-0486
Megjegyzések:Metal ions such as nickel have a strong binding affinity to amino acids and form metal complexes of different geometry. This complex formation is influenced by many factors among others the kind of reactants and their relative concentrations, pH, and its effect on the net charge of the amino acid molecule. In this work, the formation of the histidine-nickel (II) complex in different conditions was examined by Raman spectroscopy. In addition to the experiments, density functional theory (DFT) calculations on histidine-nickel complexes were performed in order to elucidate the complex formation mechanism and optimal geometry of the structures as well as to investigate their vibrational properties. The Raman measurements showed double peaks at 1272 and 1297 cm(-1), and triple peaks at 1322, 1336, and 1355 cm(-1) that belong to the metal complex. The geometry optimizations and total energy calculations of His-Ni (II) complex revealed that the octahedral geometry and the triplet spin state of Ni ion is the energetically favorable structure. This metal complex is formed through the nitrogen atom of the imidazole side chain, the nitrogen atom of the terminal amino group, and the oxygen atom of the carboxyl group. Experiments with pH revealed that the alkaline pH favors while the change of the concentration of the metal ions does not affect the the His-Ni (II) complex formation.

Cím:An Investigation of Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering of Different Analytes Adsorbed on Gold Nanoislands / Pál Petra, Bonyár Attila, Veres Miklós, Juhász Laura, Szalóki Melinda, Csarnovics István
Dátum:2021
ISSN:2076-3417
Megjegyzések:In this study, metallic nanoislands were prepared by thermal annealing of gold thin film produced by vacuum evaporation on a glass substrate to investigate the surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) effect on them. The influence of the analyte on the enhancement factor of SERS was studied with riboflavin and rhodamine 6G dye. Two laser excitation sources at 532 and 633 nm wavelengths were used for SERS measurements. We found that the enhancement factors of the gold nanoisland SERS substrates were influenced by the analytes' adsorption tendency onto their surfaces. The SERS amplification was also found to be dependent on the electronic structure of the molecules; higher enhancement factors were obtained for rhodamine 6G with 532 nm excitation, while for riboflavin the 633 nm source performed better

Cím:Plasmonic Effect of Gold-Patchy Silica Nanoparticles on Green Light-Photopolymerizable Dental Resin / Melinda Szalóki, István Csarnovics, Attila Bonyár, Ditta Ungor, Edit Csapó, András Sápi, Csaba Hegedűs
Dátum:2023
ISSN:2079-4991
Megjegyzések:Abstract: A low ratio of polymerization is a major problem in resin-based composites. In this paper, the plasmonic effect of gold-covered silica nanoparticles on the physicochemical and mechanical properties of bisphenol A diglycidyl dimethacrylate (Bis-GMA), triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA) and urethane dimethacrylate (UDMA) green light-photopolymerizable dental resin was investigated at an intensity of 1.4 mW/cm2 for 40 s. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed silica of about 350 nm covered with 12?15 nm gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) at 100% nominal coverage. Five different concentrations of bare and patchy silica particles were used; in the latter composite, the calculated Au wt% were 0.0052 wt%, 0.0104 wt%, 0.0208 wt%, 0.04160 wt%, and 0.0823 wt%. The plasmon peak of patchy silica-filled nanocomposite overlapped with the absorption of Irgacure 784 photoinitiator and green LED light emission peak. The effect of plasmon-enhanced polymerization achieved with green light illumination was analyzed using diametral tensile strength (DTS), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), surface plasmon resonance imaging (SPRi), and degree of conversion (DC) based on Raman spectroscopy. The values of the Au NP with 0.0208 wt% was found to be maximum in all the measured data. Based on our result, it can be concluded that the application of patchy silica particles in dental resin can improve the polymerization ratio and the mechanical parameters of the composite.
