Megjegyzések:Some of the several environmental problems in Hungary to be resolved are the lack of the sewage system at settlements and the inappropriate treatment of communal waste water. The problem is apparent especially in small villages of low budget. This paper gives an overview of a research on the environmental impacts of a sewage disposal site which was constructed on sandy deposits without any technical isolation. The aim of this research was to detect the concentration and the spatial distribution of the most common contaminants characteristic of waste water (NO3-, NH4+, PO43-, KOIps, Na) and the general parameters of water (electric conductivity, pH, depth). The examinations took 6 months to complete. Temporal changes in concentrations were also monitored. Connection between the concentration of the contaminants and the changes of groundwater depth were established. The water samples were taken from 9 boreholes in every month. Based on the results, the following conclusions were drawn. The sewage disposal has a significant impact on the direction of groundwater flow. More than 100 m3 waste water per day is transported into the site and, consequently, the depth of groundwater is 0.5 m less than in the environs. The main flow direction of the groundwater, i.e. NNE-SSW, is modified as the contaminants inside a circle of 600-800 m in diameter spread in all direction. In some cases of high concentrations, the impact of the sewage diposal can be exlcuded due to the low concentration values measured at the surrounding sampling sites. It is probable that this contamination is originated from the direction of the settlement. This village has no sewage system and the waste water of the households is collected in small sinkholes without isolation. As a result, groundwater under the settlement is contaminated and is spread to the nearby areas. This can explain the high concentrations mentioned in some boreholes near the village. As a summary, it can be claimed that the disposal site has significant impacts on a lo-cal level, as the contamination decreases under the hygienic level in 300-400 m.
