Megjegyzések:The main objective of this paper is to report habitat occupancy, naturalness status and phenology of Urocoras longispinus (Chyzer and Kulczy℗nski 1897), a little-known spider species. Sampling was conducted in Natura 2000 habitats of the Mátra Mountains, and four disturbed mainroad verges in Hungary between 2012 and 2015. We recorded 356 adult specimens active throughout the year, but abundance was highest in autumn. In the Mátra Mountains shrub removal negatively affected the abundance of U. lonsgspinus: the species preferred shaded habitats. The intensity of mowing maintenance caused changes in the species' abundance in mainroad verges: the number of individual spiders increased as a result of both without maintenance and enhancedmaintenance.WeconcludethatU.longispinusisastenochronousspiderspecieswhichlivesinbothhuman-disturbedand undisturbed habitats. However, the nature of the disturbance influenced the abundance of this species to varying degrees.

Megjegyzések:The main objective of this paper is to report the effect of shrub removal and mowing on the diversity and composition of ground-dwelling spider assemblages in Natura 2000 habitats of Mátra Mountains. We found significant effects of shrub removal and mowing on spider communities. Diversity decreased in the year following shrub removal but increased in the following years. Spider diversity in the final year decreased due to the lack of additional treatments. During our study the hay meadows were the most diverse habitats compared to control shrubs and treated shrubs. Treatments caused changes in community structure: the highest number of generalist species was observed in the treated shrubs, and the highest density of rare and protected species in the hay meadows. The high species turnover observed between hay meadows and control shrubs reflects the importance of grassland management. We conclude that shrub removal an effective grassland management action to increase spiders diversity in Natura 2000 habitats. Finally, treated shrubs require additional treatments such as mowing to ensure the spider communities inhabiting them are as diverse as those inhabiting meadows.

Cím:Effects of roads and adjacent areas on diversity of terrestrial isopods of Hungarian highway verges / Vona-Túri Diána, Szmatona-Túri Tünde, Kiss Balázs
Dátum:2017
ISSN:0006-3088
Megjegyzések:Transportation infrastructure may be the most important driver of social and economic development, but it isa major cause of environmental change in landscapes. The main objective of this paper is to report road edge effects onisopods of Hungarian highway verges. We examined the isopod diversity along five highways (M0, M1, M3, M5, M7) whileaccounting for road edge proximity and the adjacent areas. Double-glass pitfall traps were set in a total of 15 sites and atthree distances from the edge of the roads next to different types of adjacent areas. We found differences between ecologicalparameters of isopod communities in relation to adjacent areas as well as to road edge proximity. The highest diversity wasobserved near urban areas, while the lowest was near the arable fields. Isopod diversity increased with decreasing distancefrom a road. Species diversity of different types of verges based on adjacent areas varied strongly in relation to road edgeproximity. A medium distance (40 m) from roads had a positive effect on species richness, while verges next to arablefields were the most species-rich habitats. The general conclusion of this study is that highway verges provided suitableenvironment conditions for generalist isopod species but may be a limiting factor for specialist isopods. Moreover, highwayverges function as corridors for isopods. The proximity of roads and urban areas positively affected isopods, and vergesclose to roads and urban areas are considered as an attractive environment for isopods in heterogeneous roadside verges.
