Megjegyzések:Agricultural lands are sources and sinks of greenhouse gases (GHGs). The identification of the main drivers affecting GHGs is crucial for planning sustainable agronomic practices and mitigating global warming potential. The main aim of this research was to evaluate the impact of environmental drivers (soil temperature and water-filled pore space, WFPS) and crop residue rates on CO2, NO, and NOx fluxes under conventional tillage (CT) and no-tillage (NT) systems. The accuracy of Random Forest Regression (RFR), Multiple Adaptive Regression Splines (MARS), and General Linear Models (GLM) in predicting CO2, NO, and NOx fluxes were also assessed. In both CT and NT systems, CO2, NO, and NOx fluxes decreased with increasing WFPS. Increasing temperature resulted in higher CO2 emissions and lower NO and NOx emissions. Higher residue rates resulted in significant increases in CO2 emission, whereas the NO and NOx emissions increased by decreasing the ratio of residue. For CO2 prediction, the RFR provided the largest R2 with the observed data. For NO-N and NOx-N prediction, RFR was the most efficient algorithm, but NO?N can be predicted with better accuracy. The output of this research highlights the importance of agronomic practices for climate mitigation, along with the possibility of using RFR to predict GHGs fluxes.

Cím:Extreme events as an indicator of a changing climate Hungary as a case study / Safwan A. Mohammed, K. Alsafadi, S. Mousavi, J. Nagy, Endre Harsányi
Dátum:2019
Megjegyzések:The main aim of this research was to track the extreme events in Hungary from 1980 to 2010. To achieve the study goal, rainfall data from 220 meteorological stations -covering all the country- from CARPATCLIM (Climate of the Carpathian region) were collected. Simultaneously, datasets were checked for homogeneity by using the Mann?Kendall trend test. In the next step, the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) had been used as an indicator of extreme events. The results showed that Hungary had been hit by many extreme events. Within this context, the years:1980,1999, and 2010 were considered as disastrous years where flash floods had occurred. In contrast, the years: 1982, 1993, 1994, 2003 and 2008 subjected to unusual drought where the rainfall significantly dropped down and the SPI reach -0.4 in some stations. Interestingly, the Mann?Kendall (MK) test demonstrated a non significant positive trend for drought in most of the studied stations.

Cím:Maize Grain Yield and Quality Improvement Through Biostimulant Application: a Systematic Review / Akasairi Ocwa, Safwan Mohammed, Seyed Mohammad Nasir Mousavi, Árpád Illés, Csaba Bojtor, Péter Ragán, Tamás Rátonyi, Endre Harsányi
Dátum:2024

Megjegyzések:Increasing the productivity of cereals such as maize while protecting the environment remains a fundamental impetus of healthy food production systems. The use of biostimulants is one of the sustainable strategies to achieve this balance, although the ability of biostimulants to enhance maize productivity varies. Moreover, research on the efcacy of biostimulants is ubiquitous with limited comprehensive global analysis. In this context, this systematic review evaluated the sole and interactive efects of biostimulants on the yield and quality of maize grain from a global perspective. Changes in yield (t ha-1), protein content (%), starch content (%) and oil content (%) of maize grain were assessed. Results revealed that sole and combined application of biostimulants signifcantly improved grain yield. Irrespective of the region, the highest and the lowest grain yields ranged between 16-20 t ha-1 and 1-5 t ha-1, respectively. In sole application, the promising biostimulants were chicken feather (16.5 t ha-1), and endophyte Colletotrichum tofeldiae (14.5 t ha-1). Sewage sludge x NPK (15.4 t ha-1), humic acid x control release urea (12.4 t ha-1), Azospirillum brasilense or Bradyrhizobium japonicum x maize hybrids (11.6 t ha-1), and Rhizophagus intraradices x earthworms (10.0 t ha-1) had higher yield for the interactive efects. The efects of biostimulants on grain quality were minimal, and all attributes improved in the range from 0.1 to 3.7%. Overall, biostimulants had a distinct improvement efect on yield, rather than on the quality of grain. As one way of maximising maize productivity, soil health, and the overall functioning of crop agroecosystems, the integrated application of synergistic microbial and non-microbial biostimulants could provide a viable option. However, the ability to produce consistent yield and quality of grain improvement remains a major concern.

Dátum:2021
Megjegyzések:In present genetically modified organisms (GMOs) constitutes a highly controversial procedure, and it is very difficult to restrain its propagation. There are quite a few questions that need to be addressed to take a stand on the subject. Should we play a role in this rapid development or stay in the background? Can this instant solution offer any advantage? Should we get on the GMO "train"? We conducted a survey in Hungary, in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County to show how farmers perceive increased crop yields and cultivation safety of GMO crops. Are GMO crops rejected or considered for cultivation, such as for fuel production? Are farmers aware that direct and indirect effects of GMOs can endanger biodiversity? Is there any reason why one should use genetically modified products instead of naturally grown plants? The motivation may be to produce energy sources, to obtain biomass and biofuels, and possibly to create and preserve more jobs at the national and regional levels. It is still difficult to evaluate how GMO is compatible with environmental protection and sustainable economic development.
