Megjegyzések:The poultry industry is a very dynamic sector that is continuously growing all over the world generating an extensive amount of organic waste. Composting is a sustainable and effective method for the treatment of biodegradable wastes, therefore integrating the recycling process into the circular economy of agriculture. The quality of the mature compost can be controlled by the proper adjustment of initial parameters of the feeding material and the operational circumstances. In the present paper, the above mentioned key parameters of the composting processes were investigated seasonally (spring, summer and autumn 2019) in an aerobic fermentation system. Our results pointed out that the composting stages can be separated based on the temperature and the moisture content. The length of the fermentation stages and their proportion were determined by the chemical composition and the initial temperature of the feeding material which have a significant effect on the product quality as well. It was observed that the length of the thermophilic stage was the double in the summer period which resulted in an intensive fermentation, than in case of the spring and autumn periods, where similar temperature tendencies were measured. The maximum temperature values were formed in the thermophilic phase (approx. 55?C) in each season, where the local minimum of ammonium concentrations were also detected due to the exact location of the manure turning and chopping mechanical (MTCM) system. As a result of the examinations, the fermentation technology can be significantly shortened. Furthermore, a statistical evaluation had been performed in order to find correlation among the investigated parameters. Linear correlations were statistically proven between the temperature and moisture content (R2=0.627; p<0.05) as well as ammonium content and temperature (R2=0.758; p<0.05). Moreover, based on the obtained results of the statistical analysis, it was concluded that the homogenization of the feeding material was not adequate during the fermentation process, therefore the development of the MTCM system is strongly suggested.

Megjegyzések:One of the most important function of soils is fertility. This function is closely related to soil water management, because the factors inhibiting fertility are mainly related to soil water management According to it, the consideration and improvement of soil water management properties are essential for modern and economical agricultural production. The effects of different additives on the water balance of clay, sand and loam-textured soils were studied in modell laboratory experiments. One of the most important criteria for the selection of additives was that the substance should not be harmful to the environment. It was also important that after the additives were added to the poultry manure, they did not impair its properties or inhibit its active ingredient content. Based on these considerations, four mineral-based additives (clay granules, alginite, bentonite, zeolite) and three superabsorbent polymers (Aqua Perla, Stockosorb, Zeba) were used. In our research, our specific goal was to investigate and evaluate how each additive affects the (1) capillary water-lifting capacity and (2) soil water holding capacity. Based on our results, only a few amount of superabsorbent polymers were able to absorb moisture in the soil layer and restrict water movement between the soil layers. The effect of mineral-based additives was not so strong than founded at the application of superabsorbent. Moreover, these additives also had a positive effect on the water balance of soils.

Dátum:2021

Megjegyzések:The anaerobic digestion is a well-known method in waste management of biodegradable wastes to transform waste to energy. Proper digestion requires optimal fermentation conditions to improve the quality and yield of biogas. The objective of this study was to characterize the biodegradation process of synthetic and organic wastewater. Microalgae (Chlorella vulgaris) were utilized as a bioindicator for anaerobic digestion and monitoring of the fermentation process. Besides bioindication, the viability of the microalgae and the chlorophyll concentration were also assessed in such fermentation processes, since microalgae can be a potential source for biofuel production and a plant nutrient. The biodegradation process was studied for a month in an anaerobic tank reactor. The fermentation processes and lengths of the fermentation stages were successfully monitored and separately identified based on the pH and gas development. Furthermore, the amount and dynamics of the biogas yield also revealed that the fermentation process was about 510 hours in both cases. In contrast, increased temperature in thermophilic range (45?C) accelerates the degradation processes and resulted in shorter hydrolysis (60 hours), acetogenesis (24 hours) and longer methanogenesis (81 hours) stages, where higher biogas yield was also achieved (59.3%). During the process, the concentration of nutrients showed logarithmical tendencies and COD showed power tendency in time. The extent and the direction of the changes were in correspondence with microalgae activity. In thermophilic circumstances, living microalgae biomass dropped significantly without recovery therefore such an environment is not a viable option for microalgae growth. Moreover, dead microalgae biomass seems to act as a substrate for fermentation slightly increasing the concentration of some nutrients in the wastewater.

Megjegyzések:Meat chicken (broiler) industry continuously increasing all over the world. Due to it, the amount of waste from the chicken industry is also increasing. Therefore, more efficient conversion of chicken manure to organic fertilizer is key problem all over the world. Therefore, the aims of present study are to investigate the changes in temperature and moisture content during composting of chicken manure in a tank fermentation system and create a model to describe the biodegradation processes. In this study, Hydrus software was used for modelling the moisture and temperature distribution in the oval tank during the decomposing processes. It was found that the studied oval tank fermenter can be divided into two main parts considering to the changing of temperature and moisture level. In the first phase - after the intake - where the rate of biodegradation is high there is a heterogeneous temperature zone with decreasing moisture content. Moreover, in this stage a special temperature profile was found at the cross-sectional view of the tank. The second phase was more homogenous both in temperature and moisture content. This stage is the weak fermentation part of the technology results an elongated post fermentation section. It was established, that the changes of temperature and moisture content along the tank fermenter are the same and there is a strong connection between them in the examined period. Our results pointed out that the initial turning and mixing results in a large temperature and moisture content drop and later there is sufficient time for composting to take place. The authors recommend that this system could be used as an efficient treatment for chicken manure materials to decompose and get a valuable base organic fertilizer.

Cím:Improving the Nutrient Management of an Apple Orchard by Using Organic-Based Composites Derived from Agricultural Waste / Florence Alexandra Tóth, Tamás Magyar, János Tamás, Péter Tamás Nagy
Dátum:2024
ISSN:2311-7524
Megjegyzések:Extreme weather and the declining organic matter content of soils cause serious sustainability problems in agriculture. Therefore, soil conditioner composites (chicken manure, bentonite and super absorbent polymer) were developed and tested in an integrated apple orchard characterized by poor nutrient and water management to study their effects on soil, leaf and fruit attributes. Composites with higher doses of additives increased soil organic carbon by 4?9 g/kg, and organic nitrogen by 1.8?2.8 g/kg compared to the control (p < 0.05). Similarly, soil nitrate content steadily increased from 8?10 mg/kg to 30?38 mg/kg by composites. Composites effectively elevated leaf N, K, Ca, and Mg while not affecting the leaf P (p < 0.05). Treatments significantly enhanced the yields by 14?63% on average compared to the control. Treatments with bentonite improved the fruit weight by 2% and 24% compared to the chicken manure. On average, composite treatments increased the titratable acidity of fruits by 26?43% compared to the control and 0.5?10% compared to the treatment containing solely chicken manure. Overall, the developed organic-based composites are able to cope with changing circumstances that could help mitigate the negative effects of climate change, especially in arid areas, thus contributing to sustainable nutrient management.

Dátum:2023
ISSN:2416-2140
Megjegyzések:A short-term soil incubation experiment was set up to obtain information to clarify the effect of our developed organic composite fertilizer on soil nitrogen mineralization. The composite was designed to have beneficial effects on the properties of chicken manure and to improve soil water management properties in addition to organic matter replenishment. In the incubation experiment, two different additives, bentonite, and super absorbent polymer, were used to enhance the properties of fermented chicken manure. Developed prototype products were tested in a four-week-long soil incubation experiment in two typical Hungarian soils: brown forest soil with a sandy texture and chernozem soil at two different water capacities (40 w/w % and 60 w/w %). Soil pH, and inorganic nitrogen forms, like nitrate and ammonium, were measured weekly. Furthermore, the potentially mineralized nitrogen and net mineralization rate were calculated. The applied composite was not affected the soil pH significantly in the examined period. The soil nitrate and ammonium ratio was changed during the incubation as the ammonium content in the soil decreased while nitrate content increased continuously throughout the experiment. This suggests that the incubation experiment successfully monitored the delicate balance of soil nitrogen forms. It was found that the chernozem soil type had a higher mineralization potential compared to brown forest soil due to its higher nutrient and organic matter contents. Moreover, our results pointed out that soil moisture content did not significantly affect the mineralization process. The amount of mineral nitrogen, generated per week can be described by a linear relationship for both soil types and water regimes. The composite product showed efficacy in promoting mineralization processes, particularly in soils with low nutrient status and mineralization potential.
