Cím:Green protein revolution: analyzing Hungarian attitudes towards cultured meat / Balogh G., Czine P., Nagy L., Balogh P.
Dátum:2023
Megjegyzések:In order to address the complex interplay of dietary choices, environmental concerns, and public health for both present and future generations, it is crucial to implement sustainable and morally justifiable alternatives to the traditional production and consumption of meat. In recent years, sustainable substitutes for meat, such as plant-based protein sources like tofu, seitan, tempeh, mycoproteins, and even insects, have garnered attention from researchers and the media. Additionally, the development of cultured meat presents another environmentally sustainable option compared to conventional meat production. Our research investigates the willingness of individuals in Hungary to consume a cultured meat burger. Drawing from the theory of planned behavior (TPB), we evaluated attitudes, perceived control over behavior, and social norms through an online survey. Attitudes were defined in this study as overall perspectives toward cultured meat as well as specific viewpoints regarding a cultured meat meat burger. Moreover, we expanded the TPB framework to encompass nutritional-psychological factors such as neophobia related to food (technology), aversion to certain foods, inclination for novel experiences, and values associated with eco-friendly consumption.

Cím:Analysis of pig prices in examining the impact of integration / Marczin T., Czine P., Nagy L., Balogh P.
Dátum:2023
Megjegyzések:In recent decades, the structure and economic processes of pig farming have undergone a complete transformation. The rapid emergence of globalisation is also reflected in the daily life of the various agricultural sectors. As a result, political, social and environmental influences are creating new challenges for pig farming, be it African swine fever or the Covid-19 pandemic. For the whole vertical, the current and very significant problem is the economic impact of the Russian-Ukrainian war on both input and output sides. The last 1.5 years have shown that, compared to previous competitiveness challenges, the situation of the pig sector is even more difficult today. The study uses time series analysis and econometric calculations to present and evaluate the effects of the war on sales prices and economic indicators of a modern 1000 sow plant in Hungary. For the time series analysis, 8 European countries are considered, taking weekly sales price data. For the economic analysis, the cost-income ratios of the above-mentioned high quality pig farm were considered in the light of 28,000 saleable fatteners and their by-products. The results show that sales prices were relatively flat until spring 2022, despite the after-effects of the pandemic. However, the outbreak of war and the price rises that preceded it caused a huge explosion in prices. This has been exacerbated by the hectic week-to-week rush, which also makes planning difficult. Of the 8 markets surveyed, Spain, as the leading European country, also shows these trends. The econometric study also concludes that production would turn loss-making at the end of 2022, without subsidies, compared to the previous balanced, profitable production, due to an increase of up to 6-8 times in feed and energy prices in particular. Overall, 2022 was a challenging year for pig production in Europe and Hungary, compounded by a significant decline in the continent's pig population. In 2023, the respective stock reductions have stimulated demand and the favourable cereal harvest and the fall in energy prices will somewhat offset the difficulties of the previous year, but even such a "good year" will mainly mitigate losses
