Megjegyzések:Integrating diverse techniques and datasets, significantly enhances the accurate identification of various mineral deposits. This work aims to determine different types of mineral deposits in the Hamash district (Southern Eastern Desert, Egypt) by combining structural features (derived from ALOS PALSAR DEM), alteration zones (detected using ASTER and Sentinel-2), and ore mineralogy. Multispectral imaging, such as ASTER and Sentinel-2 satellite data, provides a cost-effective and efficient tool for lithological and hydrothermal alteration mapping utilizing selective band ratios (SBR), directed principal component analysis (DPCA), feature-oriented false-color composites (FFCC), and constrained energy minimization (CEM). The deductions drawn from the analysis of ASTER and Sentinel 2 satellite data are solidly corroborated through meticulous investigations of pre-existing lithological maps in the study area, on-site validation via fieldwork, and robust laboratory analysis, attesting to reliable results. Validation of remote sensing results was performed through field observations, petrographic investigations, X-ray diffraction technique (XRD), and SEM?EDX analyses. Based on ore mineralogy derived from XRD and SEM results the quartz-vein-associated ore minerals in the Hamash district include chalcopyrite, pyrite, hematite, goethite, bornite, covellite, and gold. According to the present paragenesis, the mineralization in the study area is classified into three types: sulfide mineralized zone, transitional zone, and supergene zone. Using an ore microscope, our studies identified that the alteration zones include gold-bearing sulfide minerals as well as the minerals goethite and malachite. In gold-bearing quartz samples, the concentrations of Cu, As, Ag, and Sb are positively correlated with Au at the degree of shear deformation. According to data gathered from the fire assay results, Au content varied from 0.027 to 57.20 ppm, along with Cu (10?6484 ppm), Ag (0.5?20.5 ppm), As (5?2046 ppm), Zn (3?1095 ppm), Pb (2?1383 ppm), and Sb (5?23). Our results confirmed that the Hamash region is one of the most important gold-bearing sites, with gold concentrations ranging from 0.027 up to 57.20 ppm. Furthermore, the current contribution highlighted four stages in the paragenetic sequence of the recorded ores, including magmatic, metamorphic, hydrothermal, and supergene by origin, indicating a considered similarity with the known Egyptian gold sites regarding host rocks, mineralization style, alteration assemblage, and several ore mineral conditions.

Megjegyzések:Albitized granite (ABG) is considered as one of the most significant hosts of rare metals (RMs). Consequently, adequate recognition of ABG through proper lithological discrimination highly increases the targeting of rare metal resources. In order to delineate outcrops of ABG from satellite data, our study integrates eight image enhancement techniques, including optimum index factor, false color composites, band rationing, relative band depth, independent component analysis, principal component analysis, decorrelation stretch, minimum noise fraction transform, and spectral indices ratios, for the interpretation of ASTER and Sentinel-2 (S2) datasets. This integrated approach allows the effective discrimination of AGB outcrops in the Umm Naggat area, Central Eastern Desert, Egypt. The interpretation maps derived from these integrated image processing techniques were systematically verified in the field and formed the base for the feature selection process (i.e., training and testing data delineation) of different lithologies supported by the support vector machine algorithm (SVM). In order to produce a high-quality lithological interpretation map, SVM was applied to Sentinel-2, ASTER, and combined ASTER-S2 datasets. The fused ASTER-S2 classification properly delineates ABG, as verified by our field investigations and confirmed by previous geological maps. Furthermore, comprehensive structural analysis (lineaments extraction and their density map) and hydrothermal alteration detection were performed to check the spatial association between the distribution of ABG, higher density zones, and highly altered areas, that in turn, could shed light on new potentially mineralized zones and proposed exploration targets. Our study reveals new ABG occurrences mainly situated in the southern and southwestern parts of the study area, and it confirms the location of known mineralized zones in the northern part of the Umm Naggat region. The distribution of ABG and its spatial correlation with alteration and high structural density zones suggest that rare-metal mineralization is mostly structurally controlled (NW, NNW, NNE, and N-S), demonstrating the higher possibility of metasomatic enrichment of rare-metals within the study area. Our study provides an updated geological map of the study area based on the SVM-supported interpretation of ASTER-S2 data. Importantly, the results reveal a high exploration potential for rare-metal mineralization at Umm Naggat and defining new anomalies for follow-up work by geochemical soil surveys.

Megjegyzések:Through various scales of observation, ranging from remote sensing data, field investigations, hand specimens, microscopic petrographic examinations, XRD, to SEM, indicators of various mineralization types are highlighted in Ras El-kharit-wadi Khashir (Eastern Desert, Egypt). Systematic remote sensing explo- ration of the mineralized zones is performed through integrating Sentinel 2 and ASTER datasets. False- color combinations, informative band ratios, relative absorption band depth, and CEM techniques were applied to discriminate rock units and various types of hydrothermal alterations. Moreover, ALOS PALSAR DEM was utilized to decipher the structural lineaments. Intensive field investigations confirmed hydrothermally altered zones that were picked out through remote sensing analysis and revealed that the study area is affected by cataclastic metamorphism to some extent. Magmatic and metamorphic rock types are represented by propylitic, phyllic, argillic, and silicification zones. Sericitization, chloritization, epidotization, kaolinitization, carbonatization, and silicification are recorded utilizing petrographic and remote sensing investigations. Moreover, the current study reveals that the detected alteration is the main reason for the apparent wide range of petrographic characteristics of each rock type and bearing several opaque minerals, such as pyrite, magnetite, titanomagnetite, chalcopyrite, arsenopyrite, covellite, galena, goethite, and hematite. Most of these opaques were identified using ore microscopy, XRD, and SEM. The distribution of hydrothermal alterations, representative samples bearing mineralization, structurally dissected zones are integrated to build a mineral potentiality map of the study area. The resultant MPM was confirmed via field survey and emphasized the usefulness of the current integrated approach besides highlighting about 125 km2 as potential mineralized zones.

Megjegyzések:In essence, targeting mineralization necessitates exact structural delineation and thorough lithological mapping. The latter is still a challenge for geologists and its lack hinders meticulous exploration for various mineralizations. Here we show for the first time over a case study from Arabian Nubian Shield (ANS), the application of hyperspectral PRISMA (PRecursore IperSpettrale della Missione Applicativa) data for objective lithological mapping using the well-known Random Forest (RF), XGboost (XGB), and Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithms. Our results manifested the worthiness of PRISMA data in further lithological mapping, especially with SVM with a resultant accuracy depending mainly on the input data combination. Upon field verification, the current research reveals the usefulness of PRISMA and its preceding four principal components in delivering a detailed lithological map for the study area. Additionally, the eligibility of RF, XGB, and SVM was confirmed in delivering acceptable results. SVM exceeds XGB and RF in their overall accuracy (95 %, 92 %, and 90 % for SVM, XGB, and RF respectively). Our research strongly recommends blending the vantages of Machine Learning Algorithms' (MLAs) objectivity and the wealth of PRISMA spectral coverage for further precise lithological mapping before applicable mineral exploration programs in similar terrains.

Megjegyzések:Fused remote sensing datasets have greatly contributed to enhancing lithological targets and providing significant information for mineral exploration. For instance, multispectral datasets can discriminate rock units through their unique spectral signatures. Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) could be an effective tool boosting lithological discrimination based mainly on their topographic variations. Consequently, the current study applied the power of the support vector machine (SVM) algorithm and the integrated Phased Array L-type band Synthetic Aperture Radar (PALSAR) DEM and multispectral Sentinel 2 data to: 1-Create an updated lithological map of a poorly mapped arid terrain (Khashir-Ras El-Kharit district, Eastern Desert of Egypt), and 2-Compare and assess the distribution of ferrogabbros with the aim of improving the localization of these rock bodies and investigating their mineral content. Our results enhanced the lithological mapping and revealed a better generalization of mineralized ferrogabbros when the input was a fused DEM with Sentinel 2 compared to the salt and pepper effect observed when adopting the Sentinel 2 solely as the input data. Additionally, the current research strongly recommends detailed exploration programs for Fe-Ti oxide ores within the gabbroic rocks delineated through the resultant thematic map. The ferrogabbros were subjected to a comprehensive analysis involving whole rock geochemistry, XRD, EDX, and lightreflecting investigations, which revealed the existence of magnetite, titanomagnetite, and hematite. The titanomagnetite crystals display subhedral morphology and exhibit fine- to medium-grained surfaces with irregular shapes. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis revealed the presence of magnetite and hematite in the concentrated Fe-Ti oxides. Additionally, the whole rock geochemistry highlighted the origin of the ferrogabbros and their proposed tectonic setting as an alkaline to calc-alkaline magma type that developed in a continental arc setting

ISSN:2045-2322
Megjegyzések:Integrating various tools in targeting mineral deposits increases the chance of adequate detection and characterization of mineralization zones. Selecting a convenient dataset is a key for a precise geological and hydrothermal alteration mapping. Remote sensing and airborne geophysical data have proven their efficiency as tools for reliable mineral exploration. Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER), Advanced land imager (ALI), Landsat 8 (L8), and Sentinel 2 data are widely?used data among various types of remote sensing images in resolving lithological and hydrothermal alteration mapping over the last two decades. ASTER is a well?established satellite in geological remote sensing with detailed Short?wave infrared (SWIR) range compared to visible and near?infrared region (VNIR) that controls iron?associated alteration detection. On contrary, ALI has excellent coverage of the VNIR area (6 bands), but does not possess the potentiality of ASTER for the SWIR and thermal regions. Landsat 8 is widely used and highly recommended for lithological and hydrothermal alteration mapping. The higher spatial (up to 10 m) resolution of Sentinel 2 MSI has preserved its role in producing accurate geological mapping. Notwithstanding the foregoing, implementing the four datasets in a single study is time?consuming. Thus, an important question when commencing an exploration project for hydrothermal alterations?related mineralization (orogenic mineral deposits in the current research) is: which dataset should be adopted to fulfill proper and adequate outputs? Here the four widely recommended datasets (ASTER, ALI, L8, and sentinel 2) have been tested by applying the widely?accepted techniques (false color combinations, band ratios, directed principal component analysis, and constrained energy minimization) for geological and hydrothermal alteration mapping of Gabal El Rukham?Gabal Mueilha district, Egypt. The study area is covered mainly by Neoproterozoic heterogeneous collection of ophiolitic components, island arc assemblage, intruded by enormous granitic rocks. Additionally, airborne magnetic and radiometric data were applied and compared with the remote sensing investigations for deciphering the structural and hydrothermal alteration patterns within the study area. The results demonstrated a different extent from one sensor to another, highlighting their varied efficacy in detecting hydrothermal alterations (mainly hydroxyl?bearing alterations and iron oxides). Moreover, the analysis of airborne magnetic and radiometric data showed hydrothermal alteration zones that are consistent with the detected alteration pattern. The coincidence between high magnetic anomalies, high values of the K/eTh ratio, and the resultant alterations confirm the real alteration anomalies. Over and above that, the remote sensing results and airborne geophysical indications were verified with fieldwork and petrographic investigations, and strongly recommend combining ASTER and Sentinel 2 results in further investigations. Based on the outputs of the current research, we expect better hydrothermal alteration delineation by adopting the current findings as they sharply narrow the zones to be further investigated via costly geophysical and geochemical methods in mineral exploration projects.

Megjegyzések:Remote sensing datasets have introduced remarkable advancements in mapping rock units, structural elements, and hydrothermal alteration zones. This study applied Landsat Operational Land Imager (OLI) multispectral dataset in discriminating the intricate basement of Um Salim area, Central Eastern Desert (CED), Egypt. Moreover, a panchromatic 15m pixel size band is implemented to extract the study area's linear structural features. Several image processing methods including False Color Combination (FCC), Band Ratio (BR), Optimum Index Factor (OIF), and Density slicing were utilized in lithological and alteration mapping. The widely used, LINE module of the PCI Geomatica is applied for lineament extraction. Results reasonably discriminate the complicated rock units using selected composites depending on OIF results. A photo-geological map is constructed and shows greater coincidence with recently published maps. Lineaments map and its density revealed the preponderance of NE-SW and WNW-ESE structural trends. The spatial relationship between the resultant hydrothermally-altered zones and the detected structural features strongly recommends further detailed examination for ore deposits within the study area besides manifesting the efficiency of the utilized data and methods.

Megjegyzések:As a quantitative and numerical representation of earth surface topography, Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) are widely used in several applications including geological, hydrological, and geographical Aspects. With the availability of several types of DEMs, various intrinsic errors may be incorporated due to sensor acquisition inconveniences, or processing techniques compared to the actual land surface measurements. Consequently, this study aims to analysis and test the vertical accuracy of NASADEM, Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer?Global Digital Elevation Model (ASTER GDEM) and Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) Phased Array L-type band Synthetic Aperture Radar (PALSAR) DEM compared to the actual ground control points (GCPs) derived from topographic maps through calculating Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE). Our results revealed the sublimity of ALOS PALSAR DEM over NASADEM and ASTER GDEM. Thus, ALOS PALSAR DEM is recommended for further geomorphological studies.

Megjegyzések:Groundwater demand has dramatically increased due to the swift demographic explosion, especially in arid areas, where groundwater is considered the main source for all purposes. Thus, this research integrates climatological, lithological, structural, topographical, hydro-morphological, and geoelectrical data to explore groundwater potential zones in the central part of Sinai Peninsula, Egypt using the GIS-based Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). Seven thematic layers of soil moisture, rainfall, normalized difference vegetation index, drainage density, lineament density, slope, and land use/land cover were built from different remote sensing data sets. The eighth layer represents a high-resolution lithological map of the study area, constructed utilizing the power of the support vector machine over Sentinel 2 data and accurately assessed with a previously published geological map. Ground Water Potentiality Map (GWPM) was constructed and highlighted four main areas as promising zones. Comprehensive geoelectrical analysis was executed through seventeen deep vertical electrical soundings (VESs) using Schlumberger configuration, isoresistivity mapping, and geoelectric cross-sections along five different profiles. 3D view of the studied area's subsurface geological and structural pattern with groundwater flow direction specification, and adequate aquifer characterization, revealed four main geoelectrical units. Geoelectrical data results reasonably coincided with remote sensing data findings in highlighting three freshwater potential zones. Furthermore, the study strongly recommends integrating low-cost remote sensing datasets in narrowing the zone to be intensively investigated using further costly geophysical approaches or drilling test boreholes.
