Cím:Comparison of Performance Parameters of Three 64-slice CT Scanner / Balkay L., Bojtos P., Martos J., Kollár J., Garai I., Lajtos I.
Dátum:2011
Megjegyzések:The aim of this study was to compare the physical and imaging parameters of three 64 slice CT scanners. We performed the tests on the following equipments: GE Lightspeed VCT, Philips Brilliance 64 and Siemens Somatom 64. The stability and energy dependence of the Hounsfield unit, the contrast resolution (CNR), and the radiation dose (D) were determined using phantom scans. The phantom contained six different materials and two different regions. During the experiments we changed the voltage and the current parameters between the appropriate minimum and maximum values used in the clinical rutin. We found that the Hounsfield units were largely dependent on tube voltage and it was typical for the material quality and slightly depended on the used scanner. The calculated CNR values were significantly distinct between the CT scanners at almost every kV and mA settings. The highest CNR characterized the GE scanner in nearly all cases, followed by the Philips and the Siemens CT CNR data. The visual inspection of the image qualities leads to a very similar conclusion. For practical representation of the radiation dose we used CNR 2 /D figure of merit (FOM) value. In the bases of this FOM parameter the sequence of the CT scanner were GE, Philips and Siemens at 80 kV and 120 kV, and Philips, GE and Siemens at 140 kV. The physical performance parameters can be a convenient tool to compare CT scanners.

Megjegyzések:We report on the design of a small animal PET scanner being developed at our institutes. The existing setup is the first version of the miniPET machine consisting of four detector modules. Each detector module consists of an 8times8 LSO scintillator crystal block, a position sensitive photomultiplier, a digitizer including a digital signal processing board and an Ethernet interface board. There is no hardware coincidence detection implemented in the system and coincidence is determined based on a time stamp attached to every event by a digital CFD algorithm. The algorithm is implemented in the digital signal processing board and generates a time stamp with a coincidence resolution of less than 2 ns. The data acquisition system is based on Ethernet network and is highly scalable in size and performance

Megjegyzések:Abstract: We report on the design of a data acquisition (DAQ) module for a small animal PET camera developed at our institutes. During the design an important guideline was to develop a system which is built up from strictly identical DAQ modules, and which has no built-in hardware limitation on the maximum number of modules. The developed DAQ module comprises of an LSO scintillator crystal block, a position sensitive PMT, analog signal conditioning circuits, a digitizer, an field programmable gate array (FPGA) for digital signal processing, and a communication module through which the collected data are sent to a cluster of computers for postprocessing and storage. Instead of implementing hardware coincidence detection between the modules, we attach a precise time stamp to each event in our design, and the coincidence is determined by the data collecting computers during postprocessing. The digital CFD algorithm implemented in the FPGA gives a time resolution of 2 ns FWHM for real detector signals.

Megjegyzések:In positron emission tomography (PET), photon scattering inside the body causes significant blurring and quantification error in the reconstructed images. To solve this problem we have developed Monte Carlo (MC) based 3D PET reconstruction algorithms implemented on the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). Our implementation takes multiple Compton scattering into account without any significant additional cost. The performance of the scatter correction is evaluated using GATE simulation as well as by comparing reconstruction results of Tera-Tomo to the reference reconstruction implementation of the Philips Gemini TOF PET which applies attenuation correction and single scatter simulation (SSS) for scatter correction. The comparative reconstruction results are based on the NEMA NU2- 2007 image quality phantom.
