Megjegyzések:Teaching needs to find new ways all the time. This research aims to renew both the contents and the methodology of teaching the geography of Hungary in primary and secondary education by developing a package of new tools (tasksheets, online and ICT-based activities, teacher support material and even VR), which focus on a selection of regions, landscapes and settlements. It is based on the activities of a research group of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences established in 2016, involving both secondary school teachers, university lecturers and teacher trainees. The research is concluded within the methodological framework of problem-based (Barrows, Kelson) and project-based learning (Dewey, Kilpatrick), but also relies heavily on digital devices and Internet-based resources. The purpose of the research group is not only to expand teachers' inventory and skill set but to help modern methods and practices spread across teaching communities while offering students new ways to improve their skills and digital competence within their Geography studies. As part of this research, a sample learning environment has been developed to show secondary schools geography teachers how to use the VR environment for designing problem-based methods. The Lake Balaton area, one of Hungary's most visited tourist regions, is used to present the sample environment. We use the MaxWhere collaborative service (3D Web + 3D Cloud + 3D Apps) that provides predesigned and predefined working areas in which users (teachers and students) can manage their own projects with personalized and shared contents by using modern Web technologies in a very natural and creative way. In that particular case, students are encouraged to discover this new digital environment and create their own interactive Balaton projects, which require individual research and are all connected the recent geographical issues and problems raised in the teaching material. We believe the introduction of VR to Geography teaching is not only motivating for students and teachers but demonstrates some collaborative techniques that can be applied to knowledge transfer and the development of creative thinking in other subjects as well.

Megjegyzések:This paper discusses how the presence of international students is materialized in economic benefits for a university, university city, and destination country. These benefits are directly realized in tuition fees and living costs. Money spent on accommodation, living costs, recreation, and transport has a positive effect on the local economy. Together with tuition fees, they indirectly contribute to the gross domestic product and job creation. Besides evidence found in related international literature, our research team focused on providing local experience. Our empirical research, which was carried out in three major university cities in Hungary, found that international students spend 47,478,301 euros annually, maintain 13,200 jobs (one student "finances'' 1.2 jobs) and contribute to 0.47% of the three counties' gross domestic product. Their presence, therefore, is a significant factor in bolstering economy on an international scale.

Megjegyzések:The study aims to review the processes of international student mobility toward Hungary, with particular attention to the time-series analyses of the number of international students studying in Hungary, the trends emerging from the data, and the changes regarding the sending countries and their hypothetical causes in the period between 2001 and 2019. Besides the international trends, in Hungary, a significant increase can be observed in the number of students from the East, more precisely from Asian countries, including China, Iran, and Turkey. In addition to these, many students from the neighboring countries also choose Hungary as their place of study for historical and ethnic reasons. The second part of the paper, based on the latest available statistical data for 2019/2020 as a primary source, analyses international students' distribution by field of study and their degree level and the geographical distribution of the host universities in Hungary. International students studying in Hungary participate in a remarkably high proportion (approximately 30%) in medical and healthcare courses. Therefore, the present study analyzes international students' numbers and composition in the four universities offering medical training. Over the past two decades, several comprehensive analyses have been prepared in Hungarian regarding inward mobility with Hungarian destinations. With the analysis of the latest data and trends, the paper aims to present to the international scientific community the results of the most important element of the internationalization of higher education, the increase in the number and content of international student mobility, which can later serve as a basis for international comparisons for individual countries or regions and future joint co-operations of similar research fields.

Megjegyzések:Statistics on international students distinguish between diploma mobility (full-time students abroad) and credit mobility (part-time courses, student exchanges such as Erasmus+, etc.). In terms of economic benefits, their common feature is mostly realised in the spendings by the foreign students in the host country. The comparison of the host cities reveals that Budapest should be considered as a separate category being different from the other cities in many respects. Although, the assessment of the other three university centres (Pécs, Debrecen and Szeged) received similar evaluations (close average values) but some kind of order developed between them in which Szeged and Pécs are perhaps regarded in a little bit more favourable position than Debrecen. There is a lot to be improved to broaden the studentification process in these cities particularly in four fields. The evaluations can certainly be considered useful in the sense that they help to identify those services which are problematic in any terms (price or quality).
