Megjegyzések:The paper discusses the present state of the art of German studies in Hungary in the context of the main tendencies in the European higher education area. As a point of departure, we give a brief overview of substantial developments in the European higher education area. Then, a brief analysis follows which reveals some main features of the current situation of the humanities in Hungary resulting from the European developments. As a third step, our train of thought is further narrowed down by relating the findings of this analysis to the current tendencies in and perspectives of German studies in the Hungarian higher education system. Fourth, the overall picture that emerges in this way is supplemented by two empirical surveys. The final section sketches some of the strategies that may contribute to overcoming the difficulties with which German studies in Hungary have been confronted.

Megjegyzések:The present note is meant to be a modest contribution to the current discussion on the nature of linguistic data. It focuses on the question of what kind of relationship there is between introspective thought experiments and real experiments in linguistics. In order to answer this question, Kertész and Rákosi's (2012) p-model is introduced as a metatheoretical framework and applied to two examples: to Jackendoff's (1994) treatment of grammaticality judgments and Gibbs et al.'s (2004) real experiments on conceptual metaphor. These two examples illustrate the main finding that says that there is a multifaceted interaction between introspective thought experiments and real experiments in linguistics: thought experiments may be components of real experiments, real experiments are motivated by introspective thought experiments, and the results of real experiments retrospectively re-evaluate those of introspective thought experiments

Megjegyzések:The historiography of generative linguistics is one the most fiercely debated topics in linguistics. The present paper continues the author's previous studies whose aim is to clarify the methods, hypotheses and concepts that are capable of grasping basic issues of the history of generative linguistics. Having critically analysed 19 approaches to the historiography of generative linguistics in his previous work, in this paper the author outlines his own model. Relying on Kertész and Rákosi (2012), his central claim is that the history of generative linguistics can be reconstructed as a process of plausible argumentation that is based on the cyclic, prismatic and retrospective re-evaluation of information. This claim is illustrated by a series of examples pertaining to the relationship between neo-Bloomfieldian linguistics and Chomsky's early work.

Megjegyzések:The paper focuses on the relation between the analytic philosophy of science and modular and holistic approaches to cognitive semantics, respectively. The authors show that Chomsky's, Bierwisch and Lang's, and Lakoff and Johnson's approaches make substantial use of non-demonstrative inferences which the standard view of the analytic philosophy of science evaluates as fallacies. By outlining a metatheoretical framework centering around plausible inferences, the authors argue that this fact is not as devastating as it might seem, because the inferences the theories mentioned make use of are plausible rather than fallacious. This finding illuminates basic aspects of theory formation in linguistics.
