Megjegyzések:The current paper presents a Cognitive Radio Network with impatient customers and unreliable servers by the help of a finite-source retrial queueing system. We consider two types of customers (primary and secondary) assigned to two interconnected frequency bands. A first frequency band with a priority queue and a second frequency band with an orbit are reserved for Primary Users (PUs) and Secondary Users (SUs), respectively. If the servers are busy, both customers (licensed and unlicensed) enter either the queue or orbit. Before they enter orbit, the secondary customers receive a random retrial time according to the exponential distribution, i.e. the waiting time before the next retry. Unlicensed users (impatient) are obliged to leave the system as soon as their total waiting time exceeds a random maximum waiting time. It should be noted, that the secondary service unit of our system is subject to random breakdowns and repairs. The novelty of this work consists in the investigation of the abandonment and secondary server unreliability impact on various performance measures of the system (Cognitive Radio Network), such as the mean response and waiting time of users, the probability of abandonment of SU, etc. Several figures illustrate the problem in question through simulation.

Megjegyzések:The present paper deals with the performance evaluation of a cognitive radio network with the help of a queueing model. The queueing system contains two interconnected, not independent sub-systems. The first part is for the requests of the Primary Units (PU). The number of sources is finite, and each source generates high priority requests after a exponentially distributed time. The requests are sent to a single server unit or Primary Channel Service (PCS) with a preemptive priority queue. The service times are assumed to be exponentially distributed. The second sub-system is for the requests of the Secondary Units (SU), which is finite sources system too; the inter-request times and service times of the single server unit or Secondary system Channel Service (SCS) are assumed to be exponentially distributed, respectively. A generated high priority packet goes to the primary service unit. If the unit is idle, the service of the packet begins immediately. If the server is busy with a high priority request, the packet joins the preemptive priority queue. When the unit is engaged with a request from SUs, the service is interrupted and the interrupted low priority task is sent back to the SCS. Depending on the state of the secondary channel, the interrupted job is directed to either the server or the orbit. In case the requests from SUs find the SCS idle, the service starts, and if the SCS is busy, the packet looks for the PCS. In the case of an idle PCS, the service of the low-priority packet begins at the high-priority channel (PCS). If the PCS is busy, the packet goes to the orbit. From the orbit it retries to be served after an exponentially distributed time. The novelty of our investigation is that each server is subject to random breakdowns, in which case the interrupted request is sent to the queue or orbit, respectively. The operating and repair times of the servers are assumed to be generally distributed. Finally, all the random times included in the model construction are assumed to be independent of each other. The main aim of the paper is to analyze the effect of the nonreliability of the servers on the mean and variance of the response time for the SUs by using simulation.

Megjegyzések:The cognitive radio (CR) is a dynamic spectrum access technique which provides the capability to share a wireless channel between licensed and unlicensed users opportunistically (also called Primary Users - PU and Secondary Users - SU). In this paper, stochastic simulation is used for performance evaluation of cognitive radio network. A finite-source retrial queuing model with two service units is proposed. A priority queue and an orbit are assigned to the PUs and SUs respectively. The proposed queueing system contains two interconnected, not independent sub-systems. The Primary Channel Service (PCS) and the Secondary Channel Service (SCS) are not reliable and the services are assumed to be subject to a random failure with probability p1 and p2 for the PCS and SCS, respectively. The failure can be detected after the service and the request retransmission process starts immediately. The novelty of this work is to analyze the effect of the failure probability on the mean and the variance of the response time of the PUs and SUs, and on the Utilization of the PCS and SCS. The inter-event times are supposed to be exponentially, hypo-exponentially and hyper-exponentially distributed random variables, depending on different cases during simulation. By the help of simulation we compare the effect of the non-reliability of the servers in different combination of distributions on the first and second moments of the response times of the requests, and the utilization of the system by illustrating on different figures.

Megjegyzések:This paper deals with performance modeling of radio frequency licensing. Licensed users (Primary Users - PUs) and normal users (Secondary Users - SUs) are considered. The main idea, is that the SUs are able to access to the available non-licensed radio frequencies. A finite-source retrial queueing model with two non-independent frequency bands (considered as service units) is proposed for the performance evaluation of the system. A service unit with a priority queue and another service unit with an orbit are assigned to the PUs ans SUs, respectively. The users are classified into two classes: the PUs have got a licensed frequency, while the SUs have got a frequency band, too but it suffers from the overloading. We assume that during the service of the non-overloaded band the PUs have preemptive priority over SUs. The involved inter-event times are supposed to be independent, hypoexponentially, hyper-exponentially, lognormal distributed random variables, respectively, depending on the different cases during simulation. The novelty of this work is that we create a new model to analyze the effect of distribution of inter-event time on the mean and variance of the response time of the PUs and SUs. As the validation of the simulation program a model with exponentially distributed inter-event times is considered in which case a continuous time Markov chain is introduced and by the help of MOSEL ( MOdeling Specification and Evaluation Language) tool the main performance measures of the system are derived. In several combinations of the distribution of the involved random variables we compare the effect of their distribution on the first and second moments of the response times illustrating in different Figures.
