Megjegyzések:Owing to their life form, periphytic organisms, the alterations in their community composition and function may provide valuable information on the past events and present state, as well as on the predictable future. External influences, especially human impacts (nutrient loading, organic pollution, heavy metal contamination, etc.) change the species composition and biodiversity of the periphyton. This study aims to present the most significant results on the biodiversity of periphytic (epiphytic and epilithic) organisms in two Hungarian shallow waters. Epiphytic communities on the dominant hydrophytes in Kis-Balaton Water Protection System, Phase II, were found to be highly varied for both species composition and diversity. Our results suggest that the composition of the epiphyton is more strongly influenced by the site than the host plant. For the most frequent macrophyte, Phragmites australis, no consistent differences were observed either from site to site or from year to year. However, relevant features (species number, diversity, evenness) of the epilithon on the stony shore of Lake Balaton are a reliable indicator of the differences in water quality.
