Cím:Investigating the multipath extension of the GRE in UDP technology / Béla Almási, Gábor Lencse, Szabolcs Szilágyi
Dátum:2017
ISSN:0140-3664
Megjegyzések:MPT is a novel multipath technology based on the GRE in UDP tunnel specification. In this paper, the conceptualarchitecture of MPT is disclosed. The designed structure of MPT includes several useful components: the possibilityfor external software modules to change the run-time parameters (by using the control interface), the choice between flow-based and packet based mappings of tunnel traffic to paths, as well as optional guarantee of in-order packet delivery to the application. The throughput aggregation performance of MPT is investigated in both laboratory and production network environment. The roduction network measurements proved that MPT is capable for super-aggregation (i.e. the aggregated throughput is higher than the algebraic sum of the throughput of the paths).

Cím:Investigating the performance of the MPT multipath communication library in IPv4 and IPv6 / Béla Almási, Szabolcs Szilágyi
Dátum:2016
ISSN:1805-5443
Megjegyzések:The currently used mobile devices (laptops, tablets, mobile phones) contain many built-in network cards for communication (e.g. Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth, etc.). A natural request could be combining the resources of the different network connection possibilities in order to increase the throughput of the communication. Unfortunately the standard IP communication technology does not support it: the communication is restricted to one IP address (i.e. to one interface). The Multipath TCP (MPTCP) specification (appeared in January 2013) offers a Transport layer solution of using more than one interface in a TCP communication session. In this paper we investigate a Network layer solution. The MPT multipath communication library opens the multipath communication possibility in the Network layer. Using the MPT library, applications built on the UDP protocol are also able to perform multipath communication. The MPT library was developed by using a full dual-stack technology, which means the MPT based multipath environment can be used both in IPv4 and IPv6. Protocol version change is also possible: an IPv6 based application is able to run in an IPv4 multipath environment, and an IPv4 application can be used in an IPv6 multipath environment. In this paper we give a short overview on the MPT communication library's working mechanism and detailed numerical examples will be shown to present how the MPT library aggregates the paths' throughput in IPv4 and IPv6 environments. The main contribution of the paper is to demonstrate the effective throughput aggregation property of the MPT library in IPv6 and in mixed (i.e. protocol version change) environments.

Cím:Multipath FTP and Stream Transmission Analysis using the MPT Software Environment / Almási Béla, Szilágyi Szabolcs
Dátum:2013
ISSN:2319-5940 (Print) 2278-1021 (Online)
Megjegyzések:The currently used standard Internet communication is restricted to use a single path between the endpoints in acommunication session. In the January of 2013 the Multipath TCP technology was established by IETF in order to open thepossibility of the multiple path usage. Performance measurements proof that MPTCP efficiently aggregates the paths'throughput. The MPTCP technology works in the Transport layer, and the application must use TCP protocol. In this paperwe introduce a new multipath solution technology: the MPT software environment works in the Network layer, so it allowsthe usage of the UDP protocol in the Transport layer (e.g. for voice or video stream transmission purpose). We created afour path laboratory environment to measure the performance of the MPT tool in the case of file transfer and multimediacontent (stream) transmission. The measurement results show that the MPT software library efficiently aggregates theavailable throughput values of the paths in the case of file transfer and media transfer. For media transfer keeping the jitterat a low level value is also important. Our measurements show, that the jitter value is low in the MPT multipathenvironment if the aggregated paths' throughput is roughly the same, but it will increase when the speed of the paths aredifferent.

Cím:Throughput Performance Analysis of the Multipath Communication Library MPT / Béla Almási, Szabolcs Szilágyi
Dátum:2013
Megjegyzések:Although the currently used mobile communicationequipments (laptops, tablets, phones) usually have manynetwork interfaces, the Internet communication technology uses only a single communication path for a connection. In this paper we would like to introduce a new architecture, which gives an easy-to-use extension for the current TCP/IP protocol stack and offers the possibility of using multiple paths for the communication, without rewriting the applications. The new architecture was implemented in Linux by a software tool named MPT. A laboratory environment was established for the throughput performance evaluation of the MPT based multipath communication. The measurement results show that the throughput capacity of the single paths can be efficiently aggregated by MPT.

Cím:A Review of Congestion Management Algorithms on Cisco Routers / Szabolcs Szilágyi, Béla Almási
Dátum:2012
ISSN:1844-6043 2067-2101
Megjegyzések:This paper presents one of the features ofDS (Differentiated Services) architecture, namely thequeuing or congestion management. Packets can beput in separate buffer queues, on the basis of DS value.Several forwarding policies can be used to favor highpriority packets in different ways. The main reason forqueuing is that a router must hold a packet in itsmemory, and meanwhile the outgoing interface is busywith sending another packet. The queuing tools arecovered in the order in which they were added as CiscoIOS features: FIFO (First-In First-Out), CQ (CustomQueuing), PQ (Priority Queuing), WFQ (WeightedFair Queuing), CBWFQ (Class Based Weighted FairQueuing) and LLQ (Low Latency Queuing).
