Cím:Measurement of the mass dependence of the transverse momentum of lepton pairs in Drell-Yan production in proton-proton collisions at root{s}=13 TeV / CMS Collaboration
Dátum:2023
ISSN:1434-6052
Megjegyzések:The double differential cross sections of the Drell?Yan lepton pair (?+?- , dielectron or dimuon) production are measured as functions of the invariant mass m? ? , transverse momentum pT(??) , and ??? . The ??? observable, derived from angular measurements of the leptons and highly correlated with pT(??) , is used to probe the low- pT(??) region in a complementary way. Dilepton masses up to 1 TeV are investigated. Additionally, a measurement is performed requiring at least one jet in the final state. To benefit from partial cancellation of the systematic uncertainty, the ratios of the differential cross sections for various m? ? ranges to those in the Z mass peak interval are presented. The collected data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 36.3 fb-1 of proton?proton collisions recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV . Measurements are compared with predictions based on perturbative quantum chromodynamics, including soft-gluon resummation.

Cím:Search for new particles in events with energetic jets and large missing transverse momentum in proton-proton collisions at root{s}=13 TeV / The CMS Collaboration
Dátum:2021
ISSN:1126-6708 1029-8479
Megjegyzések:A search is presented for new particles produced at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at root s = 13 TeV, using events with energetic jets and large missing transverse momentum. The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 101 fb(-1), collected in 2017-2018 with the CMS detector. Machine learning techniques are used to define separate categories for events with narrow jets from initial-state radiation and events with large-radius jets consistent with a hadronic decay of a W or Z boson. A statistical combination is made with an earlier search based on a data sample of 36 fb(-1), collected in 2016. No significant excess of events is observed with respect to the standard model background expectation determined from control samples in data. The results are interpreted in terms of limits on the branching fraction of an invisible decay of the Higgs boson, as well as constraints on simplified models of dark matter, on first-generation scalar leptoquarks decaying to quarks and neutrinos, and on models with large extra dimensions. Several of the new limits, specifically for spin-1 dark matter mediators, pseudoscalar mediators, colored mediators, and leptoquarks, are the most restrictive to date.

Cím:Measurements of the pp --> W^{+/-}[gamma][gamma] and pp --> Z[gamma][gamma] cross sections at root{s} = 13 TeV and limits on anomalous quartic gauge couplings / The CMS Collaboration
Dátum:2021
ISSN:1126-6708 1029-8479
Megjegyzések:The cross section for W or Z boson production in association with two photons is measured in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb(-1) collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The W -> l nu and Z -> ll decay modes (where l = e, mu) are used to extract the W gamma gamma and Z gamma gamma cross sections in a phase space defined by electron (muon) with transverse momentum larger than 30 GeV and photon transverse momentum larger than 20 GeV. All leptons and photons are required to have absolute pseudorapidity smaller than 2.5. The measured cross sections in this phase space are sigma(W gamma gamma) = 13.6(-1.9)(+1.9) (stat)(-4.0)(+4.0) (syst) +/- 0.08 (PDF + scale) fb and sigma(Z gamma gamma) = 5.41(-0.55)(+0.58) (stat)(-0.70)(+0.64) (syst) +/- 0.06 (PDF + scale) fb. Limits on anomalous quartic gauge couplings are set in the framework of an effective field theory with dimension-8 operators.

Cím:Search for chargino-neutralino production in events with Higgs and W bosons using 137 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collisions at root{s}=13 TeV / The CMS Collaboration
Dátum:2021
ISSN:1126-6708 1029-8479
Megjegyzések:A search for electroweak production of supersymmetric (SUSY) particles in final states with one lepton, a Higgs boson decaying to a pair of bottom quarks, and large missing transverse momentum is presented. The search uses data from proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV collected using the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb(-1). The observed yields are consistent with backgrounds expected from the standard model. The results are interpreted in the context of a simplified SUSY model of chargino-neutralino production, with the chargino decaying to a W boson and the lightest SUSY particle (LSP) and the neutralino decaying to a Higgs boson and the LSP. Charginos and neutralinos with masses up to 820 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level when the LSP mass is small, and LSPs with mass up to 350 GeV are excluded when the masses of the chargino and neutralino are approximately 700 GeV.

Cím:Combined searches for the production of supersymmetric top quark partners in proton-proton collisions at ?s = 13 TeV / CMS Collaboration
Dátum:2021
ISSN:1434-6044
Megjegyzések:A combination of searches for top squark pair production using proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV at the CERN LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb(-1) collected by the CMS experiment, is presented. Signatures with at least 2 jets and large missing transverse momentum are categorized into events with 0, 1, or 2 leptons. New results for regions of parameter space where the kinematical properties of top squark pair production and top quark pair production are very similar are presented. Depending on themodel, the combined result excludes a top squarkmass up to 1325 GeV for amassless neutralino, and a neutralinomass up to 700 GeV for a top squarkmass of 1150 GeV. Top squarks with masses from 145 to 295 GeV, for neutralino masses from 0 to 100 GeV, with a mass difference between the top squark and the neutralino in a window of 30 GeV around the mass of the top quark, are excluded for the first time with CMS data. The results of theses searches are also interpreted in an alternative signal model of dark matter production via a spin-0 mediator in association with a top quark pair. Upper limits are set on the cross section for mediator particle masses of up to 420 GeV.

Cím:Reconstruction of decays to merged photons using end-to-end deep learning with domain continuation in the CMS detector / CMS Collaboration
Dátum:2023
ISSN:2470-0010 2470-0029
Megjegyzések:A novel technique based on machine learning is introduced to reconstruct the decays of highly Lorentz-boosted particles. Using an end-to-end deep learning strategy, the technique bypasses existing rule-based particle reconstruction methods typically used in high energy physics analyses. It uses minimally processed detector data as input and directly outputs particle properties of interest. The new technique is demonstrated for the reconstruction of the invariant mass of particles decaying in the CMS detector. The decay of a hypothetical scalar particle Formula Presented into two photons, Formula Presented, is chosen as a benchmark decay. Lorentz boosts Formula Presented are considered, ranging from regimes where both photons are resolved to those where the photons are closely merged as one object. A training method using domain continuation is introduced, enabling the invariant mass reconstruction of unresolved photon pairs in a novel way. The new technique is validated using Formula Presented decays in LHC collision data.

Cím:Search for light Higgs bosons from supersymmetric cascade decays in pp collisions at ?s = 13 TeV / Tumasyan, A., Adam, W., Andrejkovic, J. W., Raics P., Ujvari B., Trocsanyi Z. L., CMS Collaboration
Dátum:2023
ISSN:1434-6052
Megjegyzések:A search is reported for pairs of light Higgs bosons (H-1) produced in supersymmetric cascade decays in final states with small missing transverse momentum. A data set of LHC pp collisions collected with the CMS detector at root s = 13 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb(-1) is used. The search targets events where both H-1 bosons decay into b (b) over bar pairs that are reconstructed as large-radius jets using substructure techniques. No evidence is found for an excess of events beyond the background expectations of the standard model (SM). Results from the search are interpreted in the next-to-minimal supersymmetric extension of the SM, where a "singlino" of small mass leads to squark and gluino cascade decays that can predominantly end in a highly Lorentz-boosted singlet-like H-1 and a singlino-like neutralino of small transversemomentum. Upper limits are set on the product of the squark or gluino pair production cross section and the square of the b (b) over bar branching fraction of the H1 in a benchmark model containing almost mass-degenerate gluinos and light-flavour squarks. Under the assumption of an SM-like H-1 -> b (b) over bar branching fraction, H-1 bosons with masses in the range 40-120 GeVarising from the decays of squarks or gluinos with a mass of 1200-2500 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level.
