Cím:The effects of patchiness and the nest location on mean flight distance: a model / Z. Barta
Dátum:1992
Megjegyzések:One of the advantages of colonial breeding may be the enhanced foraging efficiency through the location of colony. In a patchy environmental a colonial breeder may experience a shorter distance between the nest and an average food patch than an average dispersed breeder. How are this distance influanced by nest location, and varying patchiness? To develop a model of a predator moving by random walk in a patchy foraging area I found that: (i)the nest location in a bounded area influenced sufficiently the mean flight distance and (ii)the growing patchiness increases this distance.

Cím:Is information transfer always advantageous when food patcjily distributed? : A simple ESS model / Z. Barta, T. Szép
Dátum:1994
Megjegyzések:One of the potential benefits of colonial breeding may be using information on the lication of food gained from other members of the colony. Obtaining this information without searching may improve the foraging efficiency especially when food occursin rich patches whose locations are unpredictable both in space and time. A question is arising: is this efficiency really improved by the information transfer? using the game theory we modelled the problem by two strategies: (1) Searcher looks for food actively and 82) Follower reaches the food patch by following Searchers. Investigating the equilibrium between these strategies we concluded that information transfer may increase the individuals' average foraging efficiency when the Searchers gain benefits from the exchange too.

Cím:Space use of wintering Eurasian Tree Sparrows (Passer montanus) in a semi-urban area: a radiotelemetry-based case study / Attila Fülöp, Dóra Lukács, Zoltán Barta
Dátum:2022

Megjegyzések:Space use, which includes the home range and habitat utilisation pattern of individuals for different activities (e.g. foraging, roosting), is one of the fundamental aspects of a species ecology. Hence, knowledge on the different aspects of space use in general is essential to understand the relationship between species and their habitat. Here, we investigated the home range size (using the minimum convex polygon method; MCP) and roosting site selection, using radiotelemetry, in a sedentary passerine species, the Eurasian Tree Sparrows (Passer montanus). The study was carried out during the non-breeding period (i.e. wintering), in a semi-urban habitat where supplemental feeding was also available. We found that individuals had highly variable home ranges, both in shape and size (mean ? SD of 95% MCP: 6.89 ? 5.73 ha), the location of which was influenced by the presence of bird feeders. Roosting sites of the tracked individuals were largely consistent at an individual level, that is, all birds used the same locations for roosting during the whole tracking period, and the roosting sites of all individuals were located on buildings. Our results suggest that urbanised habitats can provide multiple benefits for the individuals during the winter in the form of easily accessible resources (e.g. food, roosting place), and individuals readily exploit these resources by adjusting their space use according to their availability.
