Megjegyzések:The marigold extracts are used in traditional medicine for its anti-inflammatory, decongestive, antiseptic, antifungal, antimicrobial and immunostimulating properties. Existing studies have partially proved these properties, but are incomplete with regard to the possibility of standardizing the extract using the best working conditions so as it to be included in dietary supplements. The purpose of this study is to investigate the chemical composition of the marigold extracts, their contents in flavonoids and polyphenolic compounds, as well as to determine the contents in oligoelements of the plant material through the ICP-OES method. Based on the results of this study we conclude that a complete extraction may be accomplished after lyophilizing the solution of hydroalcoholic extract, followed by extraction in acid medium so as to permit a better assessment of the bioactive compounds.

Megjegyzések:In many European countries, including Romania, the statutory regulation of herbal products as medicines has led pharmaceutical companies to orient themselves towards the production of herbal medicines. In this paper we determined the metal content of certain phytochemical products produced by a Romanian company. The medicinal plants are cultivated by the company producing the phytochemicals on large areas and even in organic farming system. An acid-assisted microwave digestion procedure is optimized for the determination of metals in the products analyzed by the use of Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry techniques. Thus, the analysis of the content of six types of capsules determined that they contain a lot of chemicals, metals like calcium, potassium, sodium, magnesium, zinc, strontium, manganese. The analysis also determined that the capsules contain toxic elements (Cd, As, Cr, Mo), but which are present in small quantities, within the toxicity limits stipulated by the law.

Megjegyzések:ICP-OES (Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry) analysis was applied to assess element concentrations in six samples of mineral supplements/multivitamins acquired in pharmacies from Romania. Concentrations of Fe, Ca, Mg, Zn, Li, Ba, Sr, Ni, Cu, Sn, Al, Co, Cr, Mn, Mo, Se, K, Na, Cd, Pb were determined. The digestion method with acid mixture (HNO3 an H2O2) was used to destroy the organic material. Generally, the Ca, Fe, K and Mg contents were normal to higher range compared to the labelled quantity. The Cu, Mn, Se, Ni, Sn and Zn contents were low in most of the formulations when compared to the labelled amounts. Li, Ba, Sr, Na, Al, Cr, Sr, Co were quantified in some formulations where they were not labelled, this may be due to the excipients that may have been used in the formulations. The concentration of the toxic elements Pb and Cd are within the allowed limits. Based on the results obtained in the present study, it is concluded that the present techniques are adequate for the routine determination of heavy metals concentration in mineral supplements.
