Megjegyzések:	The association of systemic autoimmune disease and autoimmune thyroid diseases in the outpatient population of 1600 patients of the 3rd Department of Medicine, University Medical School of Debrecen was analysed. Autoimmune thyroid diseases ie. Graves disease and Hashimoto's thyroiditis were found in higher incidence (approximately 2-5x) than in the standard population. The incidence of non autoimmune thyroid diseases (non-toxic sporadic goiter and non toxic adenomas) was also strikingly high.

Megjegyzések:	The chemotaxis of human peripheral phagocytes, neutrophils and monocytes was examined in a strong static magnetic field (0.317+/-0.012 Tesla). The chemotaxis of the suspension of purified neutrophils and monocytes was tested in the Boyden chamber using C5a as a chemotactic signal. The chambers were placed into a temperature regulated (36.6 degrees C) equipment producing a strong static magnetic field (0.317 Tesla) for 60 minutes. The movement of cells proceeded into a nitrocellulose membrane toward the north-pole of the magnet, i.e. in the direction of the Earth's gravitational pull. The C5a induced chemotaxis of human neutrophils decreased significantly in the strong static magnetic field. Monocytes were not significantly effected. The strong static magnetic field decreased the chemotactic movement of neutrophils and this phenomenon may have implications when humans are exposed to magnetic resonance imaging for extended periods of time.

Megjegyzések:	The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of heat shock (HS) treatment and geldanamycin (GA) on the release of arachidonic acid (AA) from human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC), monocytes and lymphocytes. Mononuclear cells prepared from blood of healthy subjects were preincubated with (3)H-AA. The release of (3)H-AA incorporated into the membrane was studied after pretreatment of cells by HS (43 degrees C, 1 h) and GA. The activation of AA producing enzymes was achieved by the addition of phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA) or by the combination of PMA+calcium ionophore A-23187. Treatment of cells by HS inhibited the release of AA. Furthermore, the release of AA by PBMC was dose dependently inhibited by GA. The combination of treatments by HS and GA augmented the inhibition of AA release. The HS response involves a diminished release of AA from PBMC. The inhibitory effect of GA on the AA release is a new element in the antiinflammatory pharmacological ability of this drug.
